Scene #751: Rescue in the Lower City!

Yunomi Stadler	RAVNICA -- The Lower City The seedier, dirtier parts of the city, away from the spires of the Izzet and the grand halls and churches of the Senate or the Orzhov, down where the sunlight is filtered through cracks in infrastructure that hasn't been repaired -- or it filters not at all. IT was down here that a team of Izzet who had been looking into some desperately broken water mains had disappeared without a trace. And the Izzet guardian was on her way down to investigate, clad in the brilliant scarlets and azure hues of her League. Goggles were perched high on her forehead, a gleaming white Izzet brand taking up most of her leather chestplate as she settles into the sunken plaza. All over the city people were taking bets about who was responcible; it would be high profile for the Guildmaster's own body guard to dispatch.
Rhapsody	The Tanuki wouldn't be alone in her venture into the undercity. Despite any insistence or persuation otherwise, Rhapsody has taken it upon herself to make her way down to where the maitenance team had last checked in. Similar to Yunomi, the draconic guildmaster was wrapped in her signature red trench, a massive Izzet Sigil woven into its back, with a blue interior that simply does not go with her white scales. She was both a dragon and an Izzet. Fashion sense? None. Didn't care for it either. Leave that to the other guilds. Like around, but not seen, would be Rhapsody's sister, Sidonia. She had been attempting to track the lost team but hadn't come up with a single clue as of yet. Her purpose was two fold, keep an eye on Rhapsody, and keep an eye on everyone's flank. It wouldn't do anyone any good if the remnants of the Dimir tried to pull something down here.
Jonothon Starsmore	A part of the city that didn't see a lot of sunlight and where shady people milled about doing shady things was perfect for Jonothon Starsmore. That way he could walk around with his face wrapped up as he kind of needed to do and not look terribly out of place. Or any more suspicious than anyone else. Because getting stopped by police for looking suspicious is a tiring thing to happen over and over. At least he has the burn victim story. Which isn't too far from the truth. The whispers are enough to get Jono's attention. Even moreso when a dragon and what looks like a girl with raccoon(?) ears and tail appear. He blinks. Wonder what's going on? He heads in the direction of the two. He may or may not look suspicious with his hands jammed into the pockets of his long black trench coat and his face wrapped up in black wrappings from just under his nose to whatever can be seen past his black T-shirt.
Maya	IT had been a long time since Maya had come this way, no ill intent really just life had kept her awya but now she was here to help and help she would. Maya was armed ready with her companions here. She was quite for a moment and she looks to Rhapsody for a moment. "It's been a long time it's good to see you." She notes to the dragon before turning her ttention to Jono whom is new, and she looks to yunomi whom she's not been with on an op in a /very/ long time. "Yunomi it's good to see you as well and Jonothon right? My name is Maya."
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi had glanced with a slightly peeved look to Rhapsody, but althoughs he could reccomend against coming until she quite literally turned blue in the face, she couldn't stop her from attending to her Izzet. "This doesn't feel right in the first place, Rhapsody. How can a whole team just up and disappear? We don't have even the hunter being seen in the city." Yunomi replies to the dragon, but her ears prick up, her tail curling as she recognizes the voice before she turns to regard the junker. "Maya." she offers a smile, and reaches out for a handshake as she turns to the covered gentleman. Her ears prick up again. "A friend of yours?"
Rhapsody	"I know. I'm not sure what it could be other than, maybe, that Terek guy that came after me once before," Rhapsody muses. She shrugs, then she catches sight of their company. Maya and... another? "Maya? I haven't seen you in ... well years," she comments before her gaze slips toward Jon, slightly suspicious of the man. Sidonia would slip up beside Yunomi, "Whoever it is, they cover their tracks really well, or don't walk. I haven't found anything from the missing team or from anyone else. The complete lack of tracks is a bit concerning cause -something- should pass through here.. not .. nothing."
Jonothon Starsmore	Jonothon nods to Maya in greeting. He actually doesn't remember. And when Yunomi asks if he's a friend of Maya's he replies, "Jonothon Starsmore. Jono, if yer prefer. Or Chamber." Sounds like he's got one of those 'hero' names. Like Armsmaster and the people of his world. Though not only the heroes have codenames there... When the mention of a team disappearing is given Jono asks, "Somethin' I could help yer with?" He seems polite enough at least. And he's not really creepy outside of 'covered up face'. Though if anyone's paying attention to his speech somehow it's not muffled by the wrappings. And his mouth doesn't seem to move under them.
Maya	Maya shakes Yunomi's hand and grins at how much Yunomi's grown up all. She's pretty proud of how she's turned out after eveyrthing. She shakes her head. "I"m afraid not I do not know him other than his name's come up. I think that's not my call Chamber. It's up to them I feel."
Yunomi Stadler	'Oh, balls.' Yunomi thinks, reaching out to shake Jono's hand, 'He sounds like Rose.' She will never, ever forget the obscene amount of underwear that woman owned. She gives a smile all the same. "Charmed; Yunomi Stadler, Izzet League. This is my Guildmaster and Co-Guildmaster, Rhapsody and Sidonia Mizzet. We're looking into the disappearance of one of our teams and following up on a possible water-main problem. It's possible that the two are connected." she explains quickly, introducing Rhapsody and Sidonia alike. "If you don't mind digging through some muck, we don't mind the help."
Rhapsody	The white dragoness givs a nod to 'Chamber'. "It's like she said, and if you want to help? Just be ready to get your hands dirty. It IS an undercity, after all," she says before looking toward Yunomi and Sidonia. "If they're covering their tracks -this- well I'd say it's some Dimir left over, but, there's always the possibility it's someone or something from outside the city."
Jonothon Starsmore	Jono nods to Maya's statement. "I'd expect that," he agrees. His telepathy isn't set to 'receive' so he doesn't hear Yunomi's thoughts. He does return the handshake, though. Looking to each one as Yunomi introduces herself, Rhapsody, and Sidonia he replies, "Pleased ter meet yer all." He listens to the problem as it's being talked about. Frowns. Sounds suspicious enough to be connected, anyway. Rhapsody's words about getting his hands dirty get a nod. "Not a problem there. I rather prefer a hands-on approach ter dealin' with problems like this."
Yunomi Stadler	"I'm not discounting the idea of outside work, but for the whole team to go without a sound? Something's up. Pidge hasn't even picked up any drones on the network giving panic relays." Yunomi counters, and she shoulders a pack, and makes for a door marked with the old Izzet sigil on it. "So, Chamber, what's your story?" she inquires brightly. "Just in case I have to bark out some orders, I like to know what I'm dealing with." She reaches for the door, and with some difficulty jerries it open with a loud, protesting squeal of rusted hinges.
Maya	Maya thinks for a moment as she listens to a bit about what's up. Ya they are going down into the muck and looking for Dimir?Oh she's very much reayd to deal wioth them. She looks back to the other man for a moment "Well then shall we get going. As for mine if you ask Chamber I'm just a junk salvager." She's sticking to that after nearly ten years in the multivers she'll likely never admit to anything else really.
Rhapsody	Rhapsody winces a bit at the door's protest to it being opened, "We really need some more teams to come through here... once we have this all figured out," she muses, making a mental note before moving to follow after Yunomi. "I'm hoping Pidge has the schematics for this sector?" The last thing they need is to get lost. Sidonia, by now, has done her disappearing act. She is around, where, is hard to tell.
Jonothon Starsmore	Jono follows the group to the door also wincing at the squeal from the door. But he doesn't say anything about it. "Story?" Jono inquires. Maya speaks and he understands what's being asked. "Oh. Just a bloke from London. I explode things an' I'm missin' part 'o my face." Well that's informative isn't it? He's noticed the disappearing Sidonia and looks around. "...'Ey where'd she go?"
Yunomi Stadler	"Oh, she's around. Always watching. She's great in a pinch or for backup." Yunomi replies. "I love London. Is there a chip shop over near the All-Saints church that makes their own spicy vinegar in yours? It's /awesome/." she comments lightly, and she decends down. Something gives a 'bzzt!' sound from her backpack, and flicks out, lighting her way down in blue and red. It's about forty feet down a narrowish (for Rhapsody, anyway) corridor. Straight down.
Rhapsody	After taking a look around, Rhapsody just smirks over at Jon, "It's like she said. Sidonia just kinda.. does that. Trust me she isn't far," she insists before starting to squeeze along the passage with Yunomi and whoever else is coming along. "Honestly surprised Niv would make a passage so small! It's not like him to be inconvenienced."
Maya	Maya pauses and nods there's a bit of a cringe it seems Jono had a very nasty price of power from the sounds of things. "Hummm ah fair enough but we may not need it unless something really big managed to avoid things. Humm maybe he never intended to come down here him self?"
Jonothon Starsmore	At the assurance that Sidonia's around Jono nods. He just follows the group to the drop and looks down it. He thinks about Yunomi's question. "Actually yeah. I think I remember that place. Haven't been there in years though." No need to really. He'll head down the passage as well. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though. He's kind of lanky. He misses Maya's cringe. "I 'ope we don't 'ave ter blow anythin' up," he responds to Maya's statement. "Down 'ere it's likely ter be a problem for the people above. I don't always 'ave ter explode things. I guess 'heavy hitter' might be a better way ter describe it."
Yunomi Stadler	"There probably was a time," Yunomi's voice echoes, "when your father might not have overseen all the building himself. This is quite comfortable for goblins and short Japanese girls, but taller members of the adventuring party may need to duck for a bit!" Down below, there's a wide, if low chamber. Forty feet wide, leading off to an area that slopes downward. Yunomi has her goggles lowered now, and there's a slight glow coming from them. "Pidge has the maps to this secor, but it appears that the most recent updates weren't from the team, but from forty something years ago. This isn't a well-tended area." she explains. "Just be careful. There's vents where gases come through -- Izzet stuff tends to go 'bang' very easily."
Rhapsody	Rhapsody seems to consider this for a moment, then accepts it, and focuses on moving through the narrow area. Seems like some of the footing is a little skiddish, but she's making do thanks to claws and other such dragony things. "Eh heh, yeah, exploding things is a way of thinking for the Izzet.. but down here? Maybe not such a good idea.." she mentions to Jon as everyone continues. "Just watch your step.."
Jonothon Starsmore	"...Er... right. Thanks for the warning," Jono replies to Yunomi's warning about the gasses. Fortunately his 'fire' isn't fire so he's not likely to arbitrarily explode something just by standing too close to it. "I'll be careful," he promises Rhapsody. Also it's interesting to note Jono's voice doesn't echo in the pipe.
Maya	Maya Says "I'll watch my head." Maya hunches over a bit as she follows after Yunomi and Chamber and then to ythe toung frangon. She moves on now pulling not the rifle off her back but some cards. "Makes sense really he does know how to deligate." Odd choice of words or maybe Maya doesn't think Niv is dead? That's likely it maybe who knows.
Yunomi Stadler	Whether or not Niv is dead, he is not present on Ravnica at this time, and is far from Yunomi's mind. "There's a dropoff and some steps. The crew's last reports were from about two hundred meters this way." Pidge's lights flash in warning, and then fade off a bit as he orbits Yunomi's shoulders. "Sidonia was right. I'm not seeing any tracks or readings. There's no sign of a fight or trauma either."
Rhapsody	"It's something I need to learn how to do better, but then again, I'm very 'hands-on' when it comes to things, so," that's why Rhapsody is here, naysayers be damned! She would rather lead by example than from behind a desk or atop one of the spires. "Any magical readings? Mana of any kind may be something else to look for.."
Jonothon Starsmore	"Like they just vanished off the face 'o the planet?" Jono inquires to Yunomi's report. He doesn't have any means to track apart from physical ones. So if there are no tracks or other clues he's not going to be much help there. Only one thing to do then. He heads in the direction of where the team last was. Maybe he'll be able to find something there?
Maya	Maya says "I know the feeling, then again I had to be hands off back home. I'd just ... make things worse then again I caused a poltical deadlock that makes me very happy." The chosen are forever deadlocked due to Maya and well she's showing no signs of aging at this point. She keeps the csard in hand humm. "They might have jumped off world?"
Yunomi Stadler	"Not as far as I can see, there's just simply no mana points to reference." She frowns. "Even if they could hold a portal down here long enough to get out, there should be residual mana here, and they should have reported back." Yunomi explains. "It's like they just... ceased to be." There is a sense of electricity hanging in the air that would make any feathery or fuzzy bits stand up on end.
Rhapsody	Lacking fuzz and wings at the moment, Rhapsody isn't going to notice. Instead she just gets a chill, "Something doesn't feel right, though. An entire -lack- of mana?" that has her concerned. "Wait, is the area completely null? Can you draw down here, Yunomi?" Rhapsody would try but, well, she doesn't channel very well.
Jonothon Starsmore	"That could be too," Jono replies to Maya's suggestion. "Might've gotten teleported off-world." Jono's hair is as messy as hair can possibly get without being matted, so his hair is definitely standing up. "...There's no exposed electrical wires down here, are there?" He might not have to breathe anymore, but he definitely can feel electricity in the air. Or at least, that's what it feels like, anyway.
Maya	Maya pauses at Yumoni's wores humm thinking as she looks about and tilts her head. "No Mana... that ... hummm" Maya reaches out she's from a high magic world she can tell where there are dead zones it just feels off and this place doesn't feel right. "No I don't think so Chamber..."
Yunomi Stadler	And as quickly as the electrical feeling comes on, it fades away; for those who can draw mana, there is a feeling like static; the feeling like your leg had fallen asleep, and blood is rushing back to it. Yunomi's eyes narrow. "No." she replies, softly,t o Rhapsody's question. As the manaflow in Ravnica in this localized area turns back to normal, the room itself changes. Above, lights creep on, one by one, fed by blue manalines, taken off the main power lines by a series of interrupts. The broken water main has turned the lower level into a tiny freshwater sea. The water has ripples coming from a source other than the cascading line.
Rhapsody	Which gets -another- shiver out of the white dragon in the room. "Okay that was -really- weird... You should have gotten SOME kind of reading," she insists before everything seems to start coming back on. ".. ok, now, I'm actually getting kinda curious.." wait. Not scared, not spooked, but curious. She is her father's daughter. "A complete null zone that just happened to dissapate itself.. I can't think of what could cause that other than an Azor supression field.."
Jonothon Starsmore	Pointing to his hair Jono notes flatly, "Me hair's actin' like I just stuck me fingers in a bloody light socket." Though that fades suddenly and he blinks as his hair calms down. "Oh. Right then." He doesn't require mana so that weird feeling is likely to be lost on him. Rhapsody's talking about suppressor fields though. He doesn't know what an 'Azor' is but 'suppressor' makes sense. "Sounds about right. But wouldn't somebody else have ter 'ave turned it off jus' now?" Meaning that someone might still be here?
Yunomi Stadler	"I can." Yunomi replies cooly to Rhapsody, and she draws nearer to the guildmaster. Pidge zips a little closer, and then begins to brilliantly light up! The pommagranate-sized orb zips and zags around for a few minutes before /shooting/ towards the water!
Rhapsody	That gets Rhapsody to blink, then glance over toward the Izzet Guardian, "Er, you can?" she isn't sure what to make of that answer. Before the guildmaster has a chance to press further, though, Pidge goes rushing off toward the water. "Pidge?!"
Jonothon Starsmore	"What the...?" Jono doesn't get much farther because suddenly that little flying robot-thing is shooting at the water. Well one doesn't shoot at something unless one expects trouble. So he steps a little nearer to the water and starts pulling his face-wrappings down. Immediately a fiery energy surrounds his head. It's not fire and produces no flammable sparks though. He's not going on the offensive yet but he's clearly ready to at a moment's notice.
Maya	Maya looks at the water and move to follower there's not much out to say on the blue haired woman's part for the moment. She pauses and pulls back at Chamber for a moment just staring a bit she was not expecting that. "...I think we got something."
Yunomi Stadler	Betwene the nullzone and the firehead, Yunomi's nerves are approaching shot. She shifts her weight away from Jono, trying not to look at him as she approaches the water, and looks down. In the middle of the water there is a glass sphere. In the middle of the glass sphere there are four human mages, and a goblin mage /frantically/ knocking for help!
Rhapsody	And silently, Rhapsody wishes she would have brought Ryxinel along too. Why? he was the best spellcaster of the three. "Ggh. Found them! now to just..." she starts looking around, trying to figure something out, and basically failing. So, her gaze shifts to Yunomi and the others. "Ideas?"
Jonothon Starsmore	Chamber sends a look at Maya when she seems to step back from him at seeing the not-fire. "...Sorry. Should'a warned yer first." He's used to people just not-looking at him though so Yunomi's avoidance of him isn't too upsetting. Though his apology could very well have been meant for her too. But there'll be time for apologies later. There's a sphere down there and people stuck in the sphere! How much air's in that thing? He looks around for something they could use to pull the sphere up-- a rope or a chain? Anything. Rhapsody asks for suggestions, and Jono replies, "I think I can get some information, at least." He looks at one of the mages in the sphere and tries to establish a 'connection' with him or her. Unless the glass specifically blocks telepathic/psionic energies he should get something. "Aim your thoughts in my direction. I'm the bloke in black in the pipe. What 'appened and 'how do we get yer outta there?"
Yunomi Stadler	No rope, no chain, nothing, just a big black sphere. Yunomi is focusing. Her hands are glowing green and she's setting them against the side of the sea, keeping an eye on the people below. "There's no telling how long they've been down there at this point; they're probably running short on oxygen." Meanwhile, Jono would get this as one of them rouses, and speaks to the others. "I can't beleive that the Guildmaster came down here to get me! She must see me in great importance from the one time --" "Oh god this goblin stinks, get me /out/ of this thing, what do they eat, dead bodies?!" "-- the lights went out and the whole thing went dark, next thing I remember I'm in this sphere with these four bugbears and--" "I ate a glob of earwax once that was SO BIG that they thought it was a fire fly I mean really, have YOU seen a glob of wax that big? Your puny little ears probably can't even produce something of that greatness!"
Rhapsody	And then Rhapsody is watching Chamber like a hawk, "Well? Did you get anything useful?"
Jonothon Starsmore	All that hurts Jono's head to be honest. Not to mention it's a little gross. Thankfully he doesn't have a stomach to feel nausea in. He winces at the sudden rush of thoughts. "Ow." He shakes his head. Then to Rhapsody, "Useful? Not much. If there's anythin' down there with 'em they 'ave no idea. From what I could gather the lights went out and they were in there when they woke up." He looks to Yunomi. "I'm gonna head down, see if I can move it closer." This said he'll jump right in the water. He doesn't have to breathe and water won't put out his fire so he should be all right. Unless there's a giant monster down there waiting to eat him...
Maya	Maya gives Jono a nod she just wasn't expectying tht is all she looks to the gobling for a moment she tilts her head for a moment. She has to wonder about this. She seems amusd almost at this situation really.
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi had been perched at the side, and while she was focused, she didn't hear Rhapsody's question, or any of the comments. However, there's a great upwelling from the water, green mana spreading out and forming her manavines in a network, and then slowly, the vines creep upwards, pulling, and with it comes the glass orb. Yunomi shifts to the side slightly as the orb comes rolling gently off the net of vines, with everyone inside tumbling around and one paticularly sensitive mage looking as if they were going to cry.
Rhapsody	Vines! So many vines. Possibly ALL OF THE VINES. well, maybe not really all of them. Still, seeing Yunomi cast such a potent spell surprises Rhapsody first, but then she just smiles from ear to ear, "Wow, Yunomi, that's incredible.." With the orb getting closer, Rhapsody calls to the ones inside, "We'll get you out! Just hold on!"
Jonothon Starsmore	Jono gets out of the way as the orb starts to move. He'll offer whatever help he can as the sphere moves where it can be tended to properly. He'll tap the side of it and warn the mages inside, "Gerroff this side." Then he tries to send a blast of energy from that fire inside his face at the side of the sphere. Notably his energy isn't fire but much more like a solid telekinetic punch. Hopefully this'll be enough to break through the sphere. He's also aiming it so that the sphere won't be sent tumbling down the corridor either. At worst it should hit the wall and break on /that/ side.
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi sways a moment before finding her footing again. "... shouldn't take as much as it does." she mutters meekly, rubbing the back of her head. The blast punches a hole in the orb, and the immediate area is filled with a nauseating, sulfuric stench -- like rotten eggs, old cabbage and moulding gym socks. "OH THANK THE PARUN'S MEMORY!" one of the mages cries out "FRESH AIR!"
Rhapsody	Insert coughing fit here. Times two. It actually causes Sidonia to reveal herself, "Blasted Goblins!" she barks before vanishing back into the tunnel from the direction they all came. She can still be heard coughing once in a while. Rhapsody, meanwhile, manages to keep a straight face and doesn't cough up a lung. Yet. "Lets... get you ... all... out of here..." she's fighting it, though. "Zerithix. Guildmaster's order. BATH. Next 24 hours. NO EXTENSIONS." Wow she knows his name.
Jonothon Starsmore	For once Jono's missing body parts is an advantage. Because he's missing most of his mouth he's completely unable to smell anything! He looks around at the coughing. "...So /there's/ where she'd gotten off to," he remarks. Though he does want to know something. "Are yer all right?" he asks the mages as they come out of the sphere. "What 'appened?"
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi is staying well away. Zerithix gives a sheepish look as he wiggles out of the glass orb, followed by the mages. "Yes, Guildmaster!" he squeaks, and then topples over. "Wait, she knows the GOBLIN'S NAME? But not MY na--" "Not the time!" another mage snaps. He stands up, brushing the red and blue quilting of his utility jacket off. "Guildmistress. I apologize that although we have found the broken main, I could not tell you who did this... or for what purpose. After coming through the narrow corridor, the lights had all gone out. When the lights came on, we roused from dormancy to see the little Izzet drone." he explains. "We're quite all right; it appears that we were entered into some sort of... stasis, or slowed compression chamber... but as to what happened in the time between... I can offer no explaination."
Rhapsody	"Teserin? Shut up, or I'll make it a point to forget your name," Rhapsody growls. She listens to the others, considers, then finally nods, "Thank you for the information. You all should get some rest. I want a full report from each of you by the end of the day tomorrow."
Jonothon Starsmore	Jono listens to the account but frowns a little when no one can offer any information about what happened. He raises a hand to scratch at his temple with one finger thoughtfully. "Sounds like it won't be the last problem yer 'ave down 'ere," Jono notes. Looking to Yunomi, "If yer 'ave any more problems let me know. I'll try ter help." He may not be mana-sensitive but since he doesn't /need/ mana he won't be affected by a drain of it. he starts re-arranging his face-wrappings so his face isn't on fire, too.
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi listens, and though her face tries to mask behind a settled frown, there is a g reat deal of concern in her dark eyes. She turns up to Jono, and gives a wry smile. "Hey, if I need a hand, I'll send the word out. Sorry about the... ah... balking thing. Fire and I haven't always seen eye to eye." she explains quietly, and rubs the back of her head. To Pidge: "Contact a few crews, and a security team. Get some drones down to start remaping the network of pipes in the immediate area. If there are any more 'null spots' I want to be told immediately." she states to the drone... and then she turns to the Guildmaster. "We'll have to alert the Boros Legion. If there's a threat to Ravnica from outside..."
Jonothon Starsmore	"Yer wouldn't be the first ter freak out about it. Least yer didn't shoot me," he replies. His tone indicates that he's not exactly kidding either. Though he does sound kind of bummed about it though he knows it can't be helped. It's a resigned tone.
