Hesinca SUMMER WAR ISLAND, FIVE MINUTES AGO

The battle concludes.

"I'm alive! Again." says Megaphone Prinny, who doesn't bother geting up.

"HE BROKE PRINNY RULE ONE, DOOD!"
"FEED HIM INTO THE WOOD CHIPPER, DOOD!"

Before the mob of agitated prinnies can enact yet another running gag death, Hesinca grabs two of the lead prinnies in the mob and throws them into the ocean.

"Okay, that's gone on way too long, it's stopped being funny ages ago," she says.

"But... but we got the wood chipper and everything," says one of the Mob Prinnies. "And the deposit on it isn't refundable..."

"Nobody cares. Let's go fight someone already."

And so the SUMMER WAR PLACEHOLDER BATTLE ROYALE commences - or at least the pre-show does, with Hesinca's army forming back up and marching threateningly towards the various territory borders.

"HEY! C'MON OUT AND GET YOUR BUTTS KICKED ALREADY!"
Sumiko With Hesinca is Sumiko, in her summer outfit and sipping on a 'MASSIVE GULP' brand summer slushy drink.  As the Prinny gag finally runs it's course, she looks over to the demon.  "What was that all about?" she asks in a way that is like she cares, but she couldn't care less.  This is because nobody actually cares.

Marchin' with her army, Sumiko is relaxed about this whole affair.  "So what are we raiding today?  Also, you've been busy.  Are you sure you're a businesswoman or a warlord?  Huh, does that matter in the netherworld?" Sluuuuuurp.

"So are you just born a demon, or can you just be one when you die?"
Cordelay Levail Cordelay steps out onto the field in her scarlet bikini, towel skirt and the MAD jacket, her troops marching behind her in a show of force rather than being held in reserve like last time. She draws her swords with a flourish and grins with the excitement that can only come with consequence-free combat.

"The summer sun and the thrill of impending battle... My blood is boiling! Let us all display our might on this grand stage!" She laughs, a wild, almost carefree laugh that almost seems to echo across the battlefield.
Nanoha Takamachi     The sun shines.

Hotly it beats down on the field.

    War is coming.

And it's summer time! So no surprise as Nanoha makes her way across the field in her two piece swimsuit, with MAD summer hoodie. As she spots the leaders of the other force, Nanoha rests her staff against her shoulder and asks, "You guys again?" She looks off to the side, "Mmmm... I was really hoping to fight lots of DIFFERENT people during the summer war."

Nanoha taps her chin in thought for a few moments before shrugging, "Oh well." Nanoha shifts her stance into an attack form, pointing her staff towards the HASOP group, "Dibs on Sumiko!"
Rean Schwarzer Rean is off to the side of the field, dressed in swim trunks and a red hoodie vest. He's also holding a megaphone.

Wait, what?

"I'm gonna be over here doing commentary, alright?" Rean shouts into the megaphone. After all, he didn't find a team in time, and missed out on signups, but at least he could do this. He'd gotten to do a bit of it during the MECC last year, and it was fun, so why not do it again? "May the best team win!"
Ben d'Tarkanan      Wearing light breathable clothes in bold summer colors, Ben might be called heroic--especially atop that white horse. What isn't so heroic is his ghastly retinue. Riding behind and alongside him is a small cadre of skeletons, clad in heavy armor pitted and scored with the passage of time. Their weapons have seen better days, but Ben holds his prouudly aloft. He's all smiles, at least externally.

Currently, he's just keeping pace with his allies, even as their opponents begin to appear. His cavalry division isn't numerous (really more of a squad than a division, numbering at most five), but it appears as if he's selected quality over quantity anyway.

He gives a respectful nod to Cordelay and Nanoha, briefly lowering his sword to turn the gesture into a slight bow. When he rises, his smile takes on a more challenging shade, as if to say 'here I come!'

With a circular whipping motion, he and his skeleton cavalry break to the side, preparing to form a pincer with his allies.
Hesinca Hesinca pauses as she sees Ben's loadout for the first time.

She looks over at her own troops (souls without bodies) and then at Ben's troops (bodies without souls).

"Neat."
Sumiko Getting her questions answered via radio?  Magic talky land?  Who knows, but they were answered.  Rean shows up to announce, and she gives the boy a wave.  Of course, when Nanoha arrives and makes her challenge directly, this causes the greedling to smile.  "Is that so?  Well, guess I should answer this challenge.." she looks towards Ben's minions.

"Spooky," She comments but is no stranger to them.  She just finds the whole dead thing creepy.  Good thing Ben makes up with it in a lot of other ways.

Focusing back on her challenger, she holds a hand down as the diamond sword forms from the glass she can summon.  In her hand, she raises it up and tosses the big gulp away.  Towards a nearby Prinny.

"So, what is this even?  Just wanting to fight me one on one for a change, or is this for our earlier win in that two v two?  Or should we both take this...serious?" she says, before dashing towards Nanoha.  She dives low, aiming to try and take advantage of her speed before slashing upwards, attempting to get first blood.
Ben d'Tarkanan      Ben and his minions ride in a wedge formation, with the necromancer forming the tip of the spear. They're fast, but obvious--though Ben wears only a leather jerkin, his minions all wear heavy, rattling plate. The bones of their skeletal horses creak and groan, as well.

"On your guard!" It's the only further warning that Cordelay gets, given just as Ben's steed is within striking distance. As his minions barrel into her troops, the necromancer uses his mounted position to his advantage.

He strikes in a downwards lateral curve, but it's not actually meant to hit anything. No, the sword in this case is being used as a focus for a spell.

An explosion of sharp icicles follows the path of his swing, spraying out like icy flechettes.
Cordelay Levail Ben's ice shards come flying at Cordelay, whose swords flash as she cuts several of them out of the air. The ones that do strike true don't seem to inconvenience her much as she laughs, "Ah, a mage! This will be interesting indeed!"

Before she's even finished speaking she's already charging forward, leaping into the air as her troops form a bulwark against Ben's undead cavalry. Cordelay herself swings one of her sword-chains in an attempt to ensnare the necromancer, aiming to drag him from his horse and set him up for a brutal falling strike!
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha smiles as Sumiko asks about her intentions. She simply shrugs as she says, "I've fought against you in that group fight, but I wanted to see what it'd be like in a 1v1."

Nanoha tries to jump away to avoid the swing and save a bit of energy from not defending against it, but as a result the tip of the sword manages to catch her across the stomach. The defensive magics of her Barrier Jacket (which thankfully cover all of her, not just the actual clothing parts) keep it from being a serious hit. But Nanoha still winces as a faint line of red forms.

But as Nanoha lands again after the jump, she's returned to smiling, "So while these summer fights aren't serious..." She crouches a little in preparation, "Let's at least do our best to make them good!"

Nanoha pushes off the ground, launching into the air. But not very far though as she flips, a magical barrier forming in her path. She lands against it, before immediately pushing off it and streaking down towards Sumiko. She swings her staff up behind her before bringing it down in an overhead blow.
Sumiko Sumiko pulls the blade up, attempting to block the staff and move her body around her opponent, but unfortunately for her, the staff had more power behind it.  The blade shatters under the force, and into her.  This sends Sumiko flying before she flips mid-air and slides along the ground.  There is a grin on her face as she once more summons the sword into her hand.

"Make it good huh?  Well.." she says before repeated blasts of glass shards aim to try and hammer the other magical girl.  Each one exploding into shrapnel like buckshot, trying to hurt as much as they possibly can with each shot.

However, whatever it hits might leave behind a nasty surprise, as Sumiko aims to leach the other magical girl's strength.  Aiming to add it to her own.  When this (if this) occurs, Sumiko's body changes.  It starts with her arms, as they become green and monster-like.
Ben d'Tarkanan      Ben is yanked from his horse. He frowns as the chains wrap around him. Cordelay's follow up is quite effective in terms of how it looks--her sword plunges right through him. In terms of how it sounds, or even his reaction, it's as if he weren't bothered at all.

Despite his reaction, Cordelay can see that the attack was effective--it pierced just below his leather jerkin. His sword lands with a clatter beside him as his horse rears up. Rolling between the frightened animal's stomping hooves, he retrieves his weapon and gets to his feet.

Ben changes the grip on his sword, the longer handle allowing him to hold it as if it were a greatsword. As he rises, he swings upwards, aiming to prevent an attack of opportunity, taking a step back. He's not as talented as she is, but he has clearly been trained in the use of this weapon. Perhaps he might've been a soldier.
Cordelay Levail Cordelay flings herself back as Ben rises with a slash, the tip of the blade still managing to gouge her thigh as she retreats. Her expression is stoic and emotionless as she lands agilely on her feet, though her eyes blaze with intensity.

"You're quite skilled, Master Ben." She states as she quickly shifts back into a fighting stance. "But the daughter of the Dragon will not yield!"

Cordelay lunges forward at lightning speed, one sword aiming straight for Ben's heart while another, seemingly less dangerous, moves to inflict a nasty gouge to the necromancer's shoulder.
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha is quick to respond to the sudden attacks of glass shards, flying backwards, strafing left and right to avoid some. Those she can't she quickly raises her free hand. Orbs of pink appear around her, before shooting forward to meet those shards and explode them ahead of time.

But in a twist that Nanoha probably should have expected, the exploded shards unleash clowds of shrapnel, several bits of glass embedding in Nanoha's skin.

Nanoha lands on solid ground once more as the attack has passed. But she then blinks as she feels something. Her magic is being siphoned off. Nanoha ohs, "So that's how it is?" Nanoha grins, "Okay then!"

Nanoha sweeps her staff out to the side. The slide on the neck throws itself back twice, each with a loud CA-CHUNK. The concentrated mana is infused into Nanoha, showing visibly as an aura of pink boosts her power. And likely the amount of magic that Sumiko is pulling from her.

Nanoha raises her staff above her head, a dozen orbs of pink appearing. She then brings it down to point towards Sumiko, calling out, "Sacred Cluster!"

The pink orbs rush forwards towards Sumiko, though not all directly. As they get close, they explode, little flechettes of pink light rushing outwards in a shower of magic similar to Sumiko's own glass shards.
Ben d'Tarkanan      Ben uses his sword left-handed when he's not holding it with both. It makes sense, considering that, for some reason, his left arm is slightly longer than the right. And paler.

     Cordelay is faster.

"I can tell," he says as she approaches. He has time to block only the more lethal attack. This he does in a somewhat grisly way, reaching out with his right hand and 'grabbing' the sword by the blade. It pierces his hand cleanly, though there isn't so much as a wince from Ben. In fact, he forces it all the way through to the hilt as Cordelay slices his shoulder.

"In swordplay, you have me beat." But what about virology? He swings with a left hook, aimed at his opponent's temple. It's a vicious attack made with perhaps an undue amount of force for a friendly scuffle.

More to the point, his fist teems with a disease that irritates the lungs, and more nefariously, clouds the eyes with mucus, making clear vision difficult.
Sumiko Sumiko moves to close in the ranks after her artillery.  The distance between the two, however, was the fact that she was now trying to use her own trick against her.  She dives in through pink clusters.  When they explode she spins, aiming to try and block and getting some across her legs and arms for her trouble...but better than directly hitting her.

Using the extra momentum from the palpable partial hits, she turns mid-air.  As she turns she tucks her arms in to change her center of gravity and make the spin tighter, before summoning another blade right where her hand was going to be.

Once she grabbed the diamond sword, she aims to cut towards Nanoha in a terrible cleave.  "What, did you think I was not going to use all my advantages?  You have me beat in power and experience.  So I have to make up for that in cleverness and unpredictability."
Cordelay Levail A quick jerk of her head alleviates the worst of Ben's strike, but the plague afflicts Cordelay nonetheless. She yanks her sword out of his hand and staggers back somewhat as she coughs violently, her eyes already beginning to cloud with mucus as she glares at Ben.

"Wh-What was that?" She manages to gasp between coughs. "It's quite... distracting."

Despite the debilitating condition afflicting her, Cordelay still manages to stand strong. The invisible pressure of her warrior's spirit seems to rage, and a moment later her breathing steadies and her vision focuses through sheer force of will. Her emerald eyes blaze with the passion on one who thrives on the battlefield.

The swordswoman lunges forward again, this time leaping into the air once more as her sword-chains lash out toward Ben's neck with the aim of garroting him.
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha is surprised by the sudden formation of the blade. A neat trick. But the Mage responds with admirable speed as she spins her staff around to meet said blade at the last moment. It's a sudden defense and so not completely solid, allowing Sumiko to push the staff back a bit and let the blade cut a little into Nanoha's arm.

As they briefly struggle, Nanoha shakes her head, "No, it's not that. I'm just not aware of everything you can do! It's quite the learning experience."

Nanoha twists her staff to break the struggle and let Sumiko pass by. Nanoha then continues her movements, spinning around and bringing her staff with her to deliver a heavy blow towards Sumiko's back.
Ben d'Tarkanan      "Not nearly enough," Ben utters with a frown. He can't get a clean hit on her, but she doesn't seem to have the same problem. It's doubtful that he'll win, especially after failing to slip her chain garrote.

He hesitates. Should he yield? Run? The thought turns his frown into a snarl. No... he decided a long time ago that he'd never be seen running again. He's going to be beaten, but he's not going to give it away for free.

As Cordelay's chains tighten around his neck, his fingers flex and curl, his hands extending to defiantly cast a spell. He raises his sword high, and darkness envelops both he and Cordelay. The necromancer's darkvision allows him a brief moment to capitalize on the surprise. He's going to take that moment whether or not his foes see it coming.

A cloud of noxious gas rises from the earth, choking and burning and stinging at the eyes. Unaffected by this gas, and sharing his darkvision, two of Ben's skeletal soldiers break away from Cordelay's troops in the darkness.

They gang up on her, attacking her in the cloud of darkness with rusted greatswords, their positions given away by the creaking of bones and time-worn armor. Each soldier swings with unnatural might, and none of the consideration of a living being--it's like fighting two murderous robots in the dark, a brutal last-ditch offensive to make Cordelay's victory as costly as possible.
Cordelay Levail Cordelay feels her chains hit their mark, but the cloud of darkness that falls upon her and Ben is quite a surprise. As she struggles to keep her focus the clouds of gas that burst from the earth force her eyes shut to keep the worst of the burning at bay, and without sight her defenses against the skeletons that come to ambush her in the dark are definitely compromised.

It's a testament to her skill as a warrior that she manages to escape the darkness, the gas and her assailants without suffering crippling injuries, releasing Ben from her chains so as to not be tethered to him as she rolls and flips to safety. Her vision is blurred by tears from her irritated eyes as she coughs, "I applaud your skills, Master Ben. You are truly a fearsome foe."

Despite her compromised vision and the pain in her chest from inadvertently inhaling the acrid gas, Cordelay swings both her swords by the chains, sacrificing force for increased control as the blades arc toward Ben's neck like a pair of flying guillotines.
Sumiko Sumiko just narrowly can spin around in time, aiming to match the fighting angle of her opponent.  Though she can blunt the force of the attack, she can't stop it and goes flying for her trouble.  Once more ending in a skid, with a very bruised arm and a bit of blood around her head she laughs.  "I got more, but my closet is unprepared at the moment."

Still, this isn't going great for her, and looking towards the fight Ben was in this was only becoming worse.  Maybe if he can get one good hit on her, and keep draining her of her speed.  Turning fully towards Nanoha again, she grins.  "You know, it's not often I get to enjoy myself like this.  Up till recently, it was fighting to survive and all.."

"Of course, there is one difference between me and Mikoto.  She was fighting to stop becoming a monster..."

She dashes, shards forming in front of her as she spins.  She shatters them in a specific direction.  Aiming to try and force Nanoha a specific direction as she leaps.  Once more she fires a shell of shrapnel, before swinging down in a massive arch to follow up.

If she strikes true, the body of the magical girl changes again.  Her legs becoming green and monstrous. "But I am already one," She says, with a sort of supernatural growl that betrays what she is becoming.  It seems the more power she draws, the more like the green-eyed monster she becomes.
Ben d'Tarkanan      Her strength is equal to his, her skills with the sword better. He'll lead with the magic and the minions, next time. Now, all he can do is try to prolong his defeat. He remains in the darkness, attempting to wait her out and force her back in.

"You're too kind, Goodlady Cordelay," comes a gracious voice from the darkness. It's just enough for her to pinpoint an attack. Ben sees it coming, and makes his second mistake when he attempts to roll free.

He avoids the right sword, but her left sword pierces his ribs as he rolls. The skeleton warriors chasing Cordelay out of the shadows stop in their tracks, as if commanded to. A moment later, the darkness and the acid cloud both dissolve.

Ben is prone, his bright clothes stained red with all the places Cordelay's blades struck true. Of particular note is the grisly hole in his hand from his 'block.' This hand is outstretched towards the skeleton warriors for just a moment after the darkness dissipates. It falls thereafter, the necromancer rolling onto his back to rest.

     "I yield," he says matter-of-factly.
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha moves as Sumiko predicts and is maneuvered into just the right spot. Just as she's avoid the blast of shrapnel, Nanoha turns her head in surprise to find Sumiko streaking down towards her. Nanoha doesn't have time to get her staff into a good position this time, so instead raises her free hand. A spell circle appears just beyond it, a quickly established Round Shield form.

The blade strikes the shield, some of its force absorbed. But the shield doesn't hold, shattering into light as the rest of the swing strikes Nanoha's shoulder.

Nanoha backs away from Sumiko, lifting up into the air to gain some distance as she recovers. She's holding her hand against the wound, red beginning to stain the white summer hoodie. Nanoha smile-winces through the pain, saying, "You certainly hit like one..."

Once she's had a moment to recover, Nanoha shifts her staff to point down towards Sumiko. With another CA-THUNK CA-THUNK, Nanoha sucks up more concentrated mana. Nanoha continues, "That's okay though!" A large spell circle appears beneath Nanoha, twin spell rings appearing beyond the tip of her staff. Magic begins to gather there, quickly growing in size.

"Not all monsters are bad!" The magic continues to grow larger, Nanoha's hoodie and hair whipping around her as she charges the spell. Finally Nanoha slowly brings her staff back, the gathered magic remaining stationary as she starts, "Divine..." Nanoha lunges her staff forward, the tip striking the glowing orb, "BUSTER!"

The orb bursts, a huge beam of light rushing forth and down towards Sumiko.
Sumiko Her head turns, the very last thing to turn into the beast itself.  Not that she loses herself or anything, she just has absorbed enough mana for the truth behind what she is to come forth.  However, it turns in that very...odd way.  Inhuman, as she swings her body around, the blade draws in more glass as the buster gets ready to smear her.

"Heh...I guess that's nice in your own way...but I got a question for you..." She says as she swings that weapon into the wave of destruction aimed for her.  The blade slices through the mana, acting like a boulder in a stream as she pushes back.

"What is good or bad?  Is someone bad because they want to do what they want, and not live up to the lofty standards of others?  Is someone good because they bleed themselves until there is nothing left?  Is it wrong to just live in your own way?  To do with your power what you want?" The beam ends, and the sword once more survives.

She dashes through the distance to the other mage, aiming to swing her blade into her.  She doesn't have anything fancy, moving strictly on the skill of her sword hand.

"All monsters might not be bad, but I am more than just a 'monster'.  I'm part of what humanity considers objectively evil," She says, fighting on.  "And I have no plans to change what I am."
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha's Divine Buster is sliced in two. The Mage raises her hand, flicking her wrist.

Nanoha then tilts her head as she's asked a question, though she's a little focused on trying to defend against Sumiko's attack, bringing her staff around to meet Sumiko's blow. Once more the blade manages to push Nanoha's staff away and cut into her arm, probably thanks to Sumiko's monster strength.

Nanoha pushes away from Sumiko, backing off once more. Nanoha then says, "Oh no, all I meant was, I hit like a monster too!" Nanoha flicks her wrist once more.

The two halves of the previously fired Divine Buster curve for a second time, now rushing in towards Sumiko from opposite directions. They meet directly on her position, assuming she can't move in time, and explode in a large blast of light.
Sumiko Sumiko attempts to push herself harder...but it was clear she was at the disadvantage here.  The split attack comes back around...and she curses.  That was a new spin to the previous attack, obviously meant to take advantage of what she did last time.

She leaps back, attempting to get out of the way of the colliding attack, but it wasn't enough.  The collusion's force was enough to catch her in the aftermath and throws her to the ground.

Rolling across the ground a few times she finally stops, pushing herself to her feet.  "Well, that's the match I guess," She says wiping the dirt off of her face.  "Nice attack!"
Nanoha Takamachi     Nanoha makes her way over to Sumiko, her injuries beginning to heal from the end of battle effects. She offers Sumiko a smile, "Thanks! It was fun." Nanoha then moves a hand to rub her shoulder. The wound is essentially gone, but Nanoha chuckles a little, "I still feel that one!"
Cordelay Levail As the match ends and the wounds from the battle are healed, Cordelay approaches Ben and extends a hand to help him up. "You were a spectacular opponent, Master Ben. I have never seen anyone fight quite like you. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to spar with you." Far from the stoic face she put on during the fight, Cordelay now sports a wide grin, practically glowing from the thrill of a battle without consequence.
Sumiko Sumiko is back on her feet, as her own injuries are falling off.  "Yeah, that was pretty clever with that split attack thing.  I guess you were expecting me to do that again!" She laughs.

The green skin and monstrous proportions start to fade as the stolen energy is released.  "Oh yeah, sorry for dramaing it up.  I have a bad habit of just waiting for the other shoe to drop...and obviously you're not the type to do that."
