Staren AMISTEL MAJORIS - ORBIT
Staren's ship drops out of FTL. Everyone who needs one is provided with spacesuits -- and this time, they're offered their choice of bulky, mid-20th century affairs, nanoskins, or advanced vacsuits, with the caveat that more advanced tech might be more susceptible to infection -- and laser or kinetic weapons (the latter modified to work in vacuum if need be.) Everyone's suit has EVA maneuvering packs on it, but there's also a sled-like device for them to maneuver over to the target on.

That target being the wreckage of a ship of the Plague Cult, orbiting high over the planet...
Majima Goro      MAJIMA IN SPACE, coming to a theatre near you!
He's not really good with a laser gun, but he appears to have acquired himself a purple glowing photon blade. You can imagine briefly what this looks like. Anyway, he seems to be having a whale of a time surfing back and forth on his weird space sled.
"Neeeheeeheee!" He declares, in that muffled radio voice style thing one might get from a twentieth century space suit.

"...finally get an excuse to use this stupid thing."
Sarracenia      Sarracenia is wondering if everyone feels like their heart is about to explode. How did she even get roped into this? One moment she is mildly enjoying a boring briefing and refreshments. The next, she follows the herd somewhere. And the next...she's in a space suit closing in on some ship that is supposed to contain a sentient plague that can infect pretty much anything?! Even though the low-tech suits are hardly flattering, she opts for one of those and keeps her hammer and explosives close at hand.

Most of what she carries hardly even qualifies as tech, so she is hopeful that whatever infection is on board won't be able to even touch her. "Staren! If I die here you better resurrect me as an immortal with ageless beauty!" she shouts at him, mostly to vent some stress.
Rebecca Chambers Wearing a spacesuit is somewhat different from wearing a protective biohazard suit. Especially when it's based on 20th century technology. Not to mention, using laser and plasma weapons is still a little new to Rebecca, but she'll one day take the time to practice enough to find it just as natural as using standard firearms.

Unfortunately, a sentient plague isn't something that she'd expect to be dealing with, and it looks like her medical skills will be of little use here. Nevertheless, Rebecca's willing to do whatever she can to stop this plague from spreading any further.

"It's a good thing Billy can't see me in this," Rebecca comments to herself, remembering all the times Billy had made fun of her during their ordeal together. "Of course if he did, he'd have a huge hole in his stomach!" A chuckle at that. "Maybe this won't be so bad after all?"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer, naturally, will have been put ahead of the rest of the group. For reasons that will become obvious as they come closer to the rotten beast and see just how.. Utterly disgusting it will be, up close. Very nice of Staren to provide him with this fancy spacesuit getup. He looks ridiculous but hey, he's in space! And breathing! Without an ebullism! Awesome.

He'll have launched toward the beast with the aid of.. Well whatever Staren has handy. Even a torpedo tube'd work out here, really. The old badger's voice comes onto the radio, "I am approaching the derelict craft.. Staren, I'm going to melt an entry hole at this location, and then sterilize an LZ for everyone to disembark into. Please be ready to provide cover fire in case it's not as derelict as we think."
Staren     Staren, for his part, is wearing what appears to be low tech armor with a bubble space helmet on his head -- there must be a slimmer sealed garment underneath the armor. <"Remember, for me to resurrect you I need your brain intact and not covered in plague spirits that will bring you back as a zombie or something instead! This is, uh... a pretty hazardous mission! But if we all work together and are careful, I'm hoping that the threat posed by a ship that's already been shot down will be... manageable.">
Kotone Yamakawa Given what they were dealing with? Kotone didn't come just suited up for normal combat, she was and had a vac suit on thanks to Staren in the event she might need to bail. She's in her ARMEDsuit the heavy weapons platform it was packing some serious firepower that they would need possibly on an op like this. She looked at an old faded photo of friends who were not dead, but worse she didn't know how they were doing since the barf of the multiverse.

Her machine moves out and one might catch sigh on its the shoulder of a faded logo with a skull but one could still read the words in Latin Bellator in Machina.

Kotoine took a deep breath. She's also acting as the heavy weapons for this.

<<All right I'm all wired in and good to go, if it comes to I I will ditch my ride if I have to.>>

Majima Goro     "Ehhh? If I come back as a zombie, just get me blind drunk and put me in a sauna for a while! I'm sure that'll work!" Majima complains over the radio, "...or, I dunno, buy a zombie cure serum off someone, eh? Ya don't give up on me just cause of some plague spirit whatever the fuck!"

He has started doing aileron rolls with his sled transport device, because the very first thing you should do when flying through space for any reason is to practice doing bizarre, useless flying stunts.

"...Ehh...from the looks of it, though, I should be glad I can't smell it, yeah?"
Karian Icefang     Where Mortimer would burn and sterilize his way it, he would find that aside from the bodies of fallen cultists, there was nothing. The inside of the ship would just /FEEL/ wrong, heavy, and sickly. If the heroes could smell through their masks, they would pick up a sickly sweet smell. Further ahead would be the bodies of a few plague marines. As tall as a standard Astartes, though their bodies would be bloated to horrifying proportions, and one of which, unhelmed, seemed to have a tube of some kind going down into where his jaw should be. Nearby would be consoles, but they would have tell-tale impacts of bolter fire.
Reyes     Self-aware, omni-infecting magical viruses and machine spirits? Reyes is ALL NERVES for this. And the fact that he so GUNG-HO'ily agreed to be an expert on the case is a thing he's starting to regret, but...

Now he's stuffed in this awful spacesuit, full of apprehension, and trying to steel his nerves.

He hasn't taken the sled, preferring to keep a bit of distance between himself and the others. His attention's on the ship instead, as he slowly approaches it...

"Well, it's... not gonna resurrect itself or anything, right? Self-repair systems going haywire...? Nah. If they were gonna do that, it'd happened by NOW..."

Drawing up a surge of sudden confidence, he drifts forward faster until he's a good fifteen feet from the hull... and he extends a hand, focusing. Thrusting his senses forward to just barely brush at the hull and do the psychic equivalent of giving it a brief, testing poke.
Rebecca Chambers "I don't plan on dying today," Rebecca comments to Staren as they approach. "And I doubt you want to come back as a zombie," She adds to Majima Goro. "My specialty is dealing with undead creatures... and I don't mean by resurrecting them either!"

Rebecca is knowledgeable with her suit's maneuvers and whatnot, but she's still taking it slowly, since she doesn't know what they're dealing with here. "I've endured quite a lot in the Multiverse, and I'm not going to let anything stop me!" Spoken with determination, even though she doesn't know what she's truly getting herself into.

As she approaches the hull, Rebecca looks around cautiously, drawing her rifle and sweeping it a little.
Mortimer Balman      "We have bodies in here for you Staren, so.. Well you've got that much. I count three Plague Marines as they are called, and.. What appears to be a pack of dead petitioners. Hope you boys and girls didn't eat anything, the smell is going to be atrocious once we seal and pressurize in here."
Reyes     "OWGHHHHYAAOW!!!" Reyes withdraws his hand moments after extending it, drawing back and flinching and screaming some nonsense gibberish for a few brief seconds. His Grease Monkey suit - different from the bulky, awful 20th century stuff others might be forced to use - curls up as if he wants to just ball up and cry... but he shivers and shakes and spins around before he fires his stabilizing thrusters.

In normal gravity, those thrusters can hold him steady and hover for fixing gigantic mechas. In space, they might as well be rocket thrusters. He has absolutely no problems re-orienting himself.

    "GAH. WHAT. /WHAT./ No way..."
Majima Goro     Majima instinctively reaches for his cell phone. This has a few issues. The first, of course, is that if he had his phone, it'd be on the inside of the suit, and he's an idiot. The second, naturally, is that he didn't bring his phone, because as the latest and greatest in cell phone technology, it would clearly be vulnerable to the tech-infesting plague bullshit.

So he feels double-stupid, which isn't the best. "...so are we 'sposed to take this crap off or not?" He responds, following Sarra in, and...well.

He's not taking off the spacesuit unless anyone makes him. He can smell this with his eyes.
Staren     Well, apparently GOING INSIDE is safe... although Staren's not actually so sure about breathing the air. "The smell? Is it really safe to breathe the AIR in there?" Staren hangs out by the outside waiting to hear Reyes's reaction to whatever he's doing, and winces. "Well? What can you tell us?" After, he heads inside. Staren makes a face at the dead, sickly bodies. "I wonder what they died of? I wonder how something made of plague CAN die... aside from being completely incinerated." He turns to Mort. "Well... the space marine armor and consoles here should be where machine spirits hang out, right? Let's learn what we can. Everyone, report if ANYTHING strange starts happening with your gear."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa says "Given what we are dealing with, I suspect I'll smell it even in here. Let me get upfront I for once can protect some of you."

She has loaded incendiary rounds into her weapons the grenade launchers are packing plasma grenade she's ready to burn. "So what are we going to do with the hulk once we clear it out throw it into the sun?"

Kotone switches to Inferred looking for sources of heat likely from those plague marines they are hunting.

Her machine lands with no issues and now she brings up her heavy machine canon looking about keeping those sensors primed.
Sarracenia      Sarracenia's mood definitely does not improve when it seems to be strongly implied that even if she -did- die or get infected here, Staren wouldn't be able to do anything about it. She lets the furry fire creature go first as far forward as he wants, but she tries not to be last in line either. And...she is kind of jumping at just about every shadow or body that they come across. It is bringing back very bad memories of one of her very first forays into heroing.

One that sent her fleeing from the space station and to her personal bath for nearly a full day. "What are we even doing here?" she asks over the radio, her breathing fairly close to hyperventilation.
Staren     Staren looks to Sarracenia. "We're here so Reyes can try to make contact with a machine spirit, and tell us whatever he finds out about it. And, if it looks like we can safely quarantine one, to bring it back for careful study in hopes I can learn how to /prevent/ it from infecting technology. You saw the planet down there? It's been devastated by war with... these." Staren waves a hand at the plague marines. "I need to rebuild it. And to do that, I need to use technology. It's no good if I rebuild it and then plague spirits infect everything, is it."

He turns to Kotone, and scratches uselessly at his bubble helmet. "Well. Once it's no longer needed, yeah. I might need to keep one of these wrecks around as a source of study material once I figure out how to do so safely but haven't yet figured out how to make ALL technology safe around it."
Rebecca Chambers Rebecca makes her way inside quickly, and upon spotting the bodies, she gets close to one, but not too close to avoid possibly getting infected by whatever killed them. "This is definitely nothing like anything I've ever seen before." She bites her lip a little before leaning in a little closer to try look at it better, taking out her handheld analyzer to see if she can pick up anything. "If this really is a plague, then something definitely has to be done..."
Reyes     "It's... hurting." Reyes rasps hoarsely over the radio. Well, he sounds like he's hurting too now. It's kinda hard to tell what with being clad in power armor and all, and not jittering and jerking aabout because that'd be really studid in space. He's just kinda floating there passively for the moment...

"Hurting bad. It's.. I don't have words for this. It's REALLY hurting. We gotta help it, guys! We.. gotta... do something..." He sounds a bit dazed there. A few moments pass and he finally becomes animate again, half-extending an arm again, as if having second thoughts about doing this again.

"Is this what a machine that has a soul feels like it...? I feel SOMETHING different. Hope it's not the GUNK." On that note, this study isn't very swcientific. Wouldn't they have to study a ship that -isn't- infected to be sure?

Gathering his will, he floats forward a bit more, and extends his awareness once more. This time he does more than brush the thing. He attempts to link with the spaceship and scan the depths of its damage, and just what that STUFF has -done- to it. What it might take to fix it... or, failing that, how best to put it out of its misery.
Karian Icefang     Within the little area they were at, there were tell-tale signs of battle. Spent bolter shells, impact markers on the wall and the armor, and a few more bodies around the corner. This small part of the ship shows the impact marking of a boarding torpedo, and more Astartes bodies. Though these wore green armor and their badge was that of a Dragon. They would be recognizable as the chapter Mort shares his name with, Salamanders. The walls showed marks of flames having licked them, a heavy flamer was deployed here. Further up and in the wall was an active console. This particular wall was unlike the rest of the hall. Where most of the ship was somehow sickly green and looked to be pulsating, this one was grey and seemingly sterile. In poor Reyes' mind, he would once more feel the Machine Spirit call out, begging and pleading to be released from the pain. That the disease was clawing at it, devouring it slowly, as if it were a cat playing with a cornered mouse.
Majima Goro Oh, hey, a computer. Majima knows how to use computers.
(Majima does not know how to use computers.)

That, however, does not stop him from making a beeline over to the functional console to start tapping keyboard keys and seeing what useful, fantastic information he can acquire from it.

Someone should probably stop him.
Staren     Staren looks around with some kind of scifi raygun (Reyes recognizes a Wilk's 457 Laser Pulse Rifle) ready to shoot anything that moves besides his allies. He takes in the pulsing walls, and the oddity of... "Now why is this one area clean, after all this time? If there's an actual spirit, that wants freedom from the plague..." He's actually okay with someone messing with the console this time, since this whole mission is kind of... poking at things. He watches the screen with interest as Majima types, though.

Once Reyes tells them what he sensed, Staren pulls out of his bag a tablet. This one's had its wireless radio shorted out. He looks for a place to plug it in around the clean console. Can... can you trap a machine spirit this way? Staren has NO IDEA.
Sarracenia      Sarracenia really has no idea why she came along. She can't really contribute to a mission like this unless there are surprise bad things to smash or explode. Although she probably wouldn't even use explosives in here for fear of puncturing the space suits. She joins Staren looking over Majima's shoulder. "Do you even know what you are doing?" she asks Majima before looking around nervously for signs of movement. "Just hurry up, both of you. The less time we spend here the better."
Rebecca Chambers Unfortunately, Rebecca's finding nothing that she can work with. Sighing, she puts her analyzer away... and suddenly feels lightheaded for a moment. "What?" She says, reeling back a little. "Uh... what the?" For a moment she seems uncertain, then she puts her hand over her helmet and says, "Stay focused, Rebecca." She looks around, wondering if there's anything else she might find.
Reyes     With Sarracenia asking Staren if he knows what he's doing... well, if Reyes can hear this, he has only a sad, wry grin to offer to the empty vacuum.

Because at the moment, Reyes has ABSOLUTELY no bloody idea what he's doing. All he knows is... he's got to do SOMETHING to help. He feels HORRIBLE and disgusted on SO many levels, it's all he can do to not start hissing on the radio.

And he really, -REALLY- doesn't want to do this...

But he crosses the rest of the distance and touches the hull with a CLUNK, putting his armored, sealed palm flat against the hull.

ANd from here he focuses. He draws deep upon everything he's got. The kind of sharpened focus that only a psychic's capable of. An uprising of pure inner strength surges through him, through that connection, aimed at what of the ship that he can feel is still pure. It's an attempt to reinforce it and restore its power reserves in this horrible losing battle, maybe even give it the strength to purge itself of this viral decay...
Karian Icefang     Reyes' act makes the spirit pause for a moment. All this time, it never really noticed anyone else was on the ship. The feeling of fear suddenly turned to one of hope. <Help...Infected by chaos taint.....not able to resist...Must self-purge...contain infection...please help.> It asks. Majima's screen would snap to life, showing that this ship was known as the 'plaguelance', a recently captured imperial vessel that was boarded by the Samalanders and disabled, but the order for a self-destruct was never completed.
All around the likes of Sarra, and rebecca they would feel something starting to act up. It seemed the 'other' entity on the ship was not happy with it's new guests, and decided to make itself known. Literally peeling itself from the peutrecance on the wall, a Plaguebearer looked them over. "Get......off....Unwanted Guests...." It gurgles out, drawing a sword from it's innards.
Majima Goro     Majima nods knowingly, as if he was absolutely certain of himself all along.
"Ah, ya see? It's called the 'Plaguelance!' Computers ain't so hard, ya know?" He turns around, widening his arms out...

Only for his countenance to fade as some pile of gunk peels itself out of the wall and starts rippin' a sword out of its stomach.

Then it takes another moment for Majima to light right up. "Aw, hell yeah! I thought this was just gonna be some boring crap!"

Majima cackles, grabbing out that strange light blade from earlier. The purple light extrudes, and he waves it around a few times.

"...Eh, how do ya use one of these things, anyway? They're so li-ahh, never mind, eh?"

He has a Nurgle demon to rush at, and try to just sort of slash across the midsection. Which, you know, is mostly surely going to cover him in goop.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa keeps moving with her weapon at the ready she sees where the spent rounds the signs of battle are everywhere. She'll keep moving and has her machines optics keep panning about. Scanning as she moves her machine ahead keeping the heavy weapon at the ready. She notices the active console and she'll pause for a moment looking at it she doesn't like this at all and she's turned off all her WIfi systems a while ago and yet her skin or was it her ghost was crawling, she didn't like it here she knew this was bad news.

<<Looks like we have some active hardware.>> She watches over her companions rifle ready and she seems to not be moving for a moment.

<<Reyes talk to me what do you got with that?>>

Then the thing scream at them, there is a hint of fear but Kotone takes a step forward.

"You are afraid of us."
Sarracenia      That feeling of weirdness draws Sarracenia's attention, and the sounds of grossness from the Plaguebearer pulling free of the nausea-inducing fleshiness on the wall. Her eyes go wide and she freezes in place until the Plaguebearer draws its sword.

At which point she shrieks into her suit and the radio within and swings wildly with her DK Hammer at the creature. "Get away from me you disgusting troll!!" she exclaims, going into a twirling attack to pummel the thing with her hammer.

Then, she hears the radio request and hops back from the demon. "Of course! Fire flowers! Why didn't I think of that?" She reaches deep into her ever present satchel and with a grunt of effort pulls out...a shower of fire flowers! Anyone who touches one would gain a palette swap to fiery colors and the ability to throw deadly fireballs that bounce along the ground until they hit a creature or wall. She picks one up herself and whatever colors her space suit consists of are replaced with bright red and yellow.
Staren     Staren looks at the screen. Well, that's interesting. So the plague marines had to actually USE the computer systems, or else why bother renaming it? There's also an incomplete self-destruct order -- which the ship itself and the plague spirits within has neither carried out nor canceled. Fascinating! Staren doesn't seem to catch himself a spirit of any kind, though. Drat. "Hey, Ship, if you really ARE an intelligent being, feel free to talk to us through this console!"

But then: The wall... a monster /peels itself out of the wall/. "What the f--?! Where'd YOU come from?" Staren levels his laser rifle at it. "Ah, perhaps all this filth is from the warp, huh? That makes sense... Do feel free to tell us about yourself while we destroy you." Staren's ready to fire, but Rebecca starts... something. Something's wrong with her. Staren runs over to her to check her and her suit, make sure everything's set right. "Rebecca? What's wrong? Keep talking!" Once it's established that she's having malfunctions, he sends her back to the ship (as long as she can get back into the general area, his robots will recover her. And hopefully not start experiencing their own malfunctions...)

Sarracenia produces fire flowers. Okay then! Time for more SCIENCE! Staren touches one, and then starts flinging fireballs at the infection growing on the walls!
Karian Icefang     The spirit keeps fighting on, remaining in contact with Reyes. The longer they are linked, the more clearer the message is becoming. <...Captured Imperial ship...not want to live as a slave.......> Using the fire flowers works in buring off the infections, but just as quickly as they are burned off, the fleshy bits start to regrow themselves.
The Plaguebearer is sliced up and send flying back by the combination of Majima and Sarra. It looks like the monster was all bark and no bite, until it rises back up once more, grinning evilly. Into it's new cut it reaches and pulls forth...an intestine! It then whips it over it's head like a lasso and hurls it towards the gathered heroes, trying to grab one. All the while, it was laughing as if it had just heard the most hilarious of jokes.
Back to Reyes, he would now feel a second preseance trying to slip into his mind, although this one was more sinister. <Well, well....what is this? A psyker? A tech-priest? How wonderful! A new friend!>
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa levels her weapon now and opens up at the thing that has taken shape. Brass goes flying from her weapon as she keeps trying to pump incendiary rounds into the horror as fast as she can. She also moves to act as cover for her allies.

"The wages of sin always come due, yours and your masters payday is a coming."

She then fires an plasma grenade.

"BURN!"
Majima Goro     Majima's mouth opens widely as the demon is cut to pieces, and sent backwards...before it starts to regrow. Sure, his suit's covered in goo, and he has to wipe it off a bit, but...
...Yeah, that's actually awesome. Majima's down. "Eeehehehehe!"

And then, it decides the sword isn't good enough, and it pulls out one of its own intestines. Well. He /certainly/ can't let the Princess get hit by that. So he leaps in the way of the lasso, catching his arm inside of it intentionally.

With his free hand, he catches the fire flower. However, it doesn't change his color at all. Maybe it's the nature of his space suit. Maybe it's just Majima. Regardless, he doesn't wait for the inevitable tug on the intestines to pull him forward. No, he's already rushing up towards the Nurgle demon.

And...and then past it, before suddenly starting back. Hopefully, behind a confused Nurgle demon who has had to fight HONORABLE SPACE MARINES until now.

HEAT ACTION: Essence of Fire Flower
Assuming All Goes Well...
Majima proceeds to leap up atop the Plaguebearer with one hand, swinging the other hand over directly in front of its open mouth...before proceeding to blow fire flower fire directly down its gullet.
This continues until the fire flower itself is completely used up and destroyed.
Staren     The idea of cleaning it just enough to self-destruct is unappetizing. "Ugh. If this thing self-destructs it'd be kind of a waste, but I guess at least it's... a tiny loss for Nurgle." PURGING IT WITH FIRE appears to be a temporary state "Alright, so it regrows! Interesting! Does the spirit feel any weaker?" ...but it doesn't seem to be making it noticeably weaker, although who knows exactly how sensitive Reyes is to that.

Staren's focus on other things makes him a prime target for INTESTINE LASSO-ING. "Arghk!!" He exclaims incoherently, trying to reach for his beam sword before remembering HIS HANDS SHOOT FIRE NOW, so he tries to grab the intestine and just fry it directly!
Sarracenia      Sarracenia cowers when the intestinal lasso is deployed, and is -exceedingly- greatful to Majima when he intervenes. Could he be...a hero?! She dives behind Kotone's power armor after that and watches him...well, be kind of amazing! She starts throwing fireballs from her position in cover, helping to immolate the plague demon as best she can.

"Thank you Majima~" she calls out in a tone that is much too cheerful and flowery for the position they are currently in. Being heroically protected is a great way to raise this particular princess's spirits!
Reyes     Pouring all of that power into the machine spirit was.. not something Reyes is used to, AT ALL. His awareness goes dizzy and fuzzy for a good twenty seconds as he tries to, well, psychically recalibrate. As a psychic, his mind is mighty, but it's also a muscle that can be strained like any other... and boy was THAT a strain.

"Nghhhhh....." He comes to after a bit though. Much weakened, but still holding the connection.

All he can do is send a pulse of..... something akin to reassurance. It's not words exactly, but just the intent. They are here. They will fight to free it. They're gonna do everything they can!

His awareness flinches as he's been weakened by supporting the ship. Still, he sucks in a breath.... <Was wondering when you'd notice me. Techpriest, eh... SOMETHING like that. Where do you get off calling me a friend?>
Karian Icefang     <Because we are going to be such good friends! I am going to get to know you, and you will get to know me. We will 'hang out', relax, and enjoy all the good things Grandfather Nurgle has to offer.> The dark spirit replies to Reyes, all but giving him a chesire cat grin. Meanwhile, the efforts of the heroes have succeeded in disrupting the hold on the spirit. <Please run! You must send me off to the Omnisiah. I WILL NOT serve this monster in Chaos. Use the console and re-trigger the detonation! I can not hold the deamon back much longer.> The ship's spirit begs.
The Plaguebearer falls thanks to the flames, gurgling and melting away into nothing, though the groans make it sound like more could come at any moment.
Staren     Once Reyes relays that information, Staren can tell which way the wind is probably blowing on this. It's sort of a shame to lose the opportunity to study this ship... However, this mission so far has shown that he's really not well equipped for doing so just yet -- and a nice dramatic self-destruct of a plague ship will probably have everyone here feeling in high spirits after, and more likely to come on future missions to help the Imperium /his/ way, with science.

He'll go to the console and finish the self-destruct command himself, giving them time to escape, and detaching the tablet before running for it.

Once everyone is back at the ship, Staren collects the lended suits and throws them in a containment cell, and reminds the others to tell him and seek help if they experience anything with machines going haywire or unexpected plagues around them in the next few days. Everyone is paid for their services by the Concord.

If the machine spirit decides to escape to the tablet, Staren asks Reyes to explain that Staren is trying to save a planet full of Imperium humans that's been devastated by war with the plague marines, and to ask it two more questions before Reyes goes home: 1. Where can I find a helpful spirit that will communicate with me? 2. How can I prevent machine spirits from messing with the technology I'm using to help these people?
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa fires into the falling form still to make sure it's not getting back up and her machine turns for a moment to face the others.

"The clock's ticking."

With Reyes relaying the info she frowns.

"I'll cover you Staren go!"

Once Staren is finished she'll turn her machine around and pauses for a moment. She then keeps running her machine moving as fast as she can machine looking back at the ship once intending to witness it's end once she's safe.
