Sanary Rondel Once again, a battle is starting at the MECC Arena! Truly, the audience's bloodlust knows no bounds as the fights show no signs of stopping. Sanary, too, looks as enthused as ever for her fight, and not only because she's feeling PUMPED after her last matches.

This fight is against someone whose name she actually recognizes. She can't quite put her finger on why she recognizes the name 'Vergil', but it'll probably come to her soon enough.

Today, she's wearing her usual white coat, albeit looking fairly chunky compared to her usual. It's like she has some stuff hidden inside that's... Not really hidden. At all. There's even a few handles sticking out of her sleeves.
Vergil     Vergil emerges on the back of two losses. He's clearly not happy about it, but is he ever happy about anything? The name 'Sanary' rings a bell for him too, but he's too moody to care about it. He'll make them fall. The crowd cheers as he emerges, but he doesn't pay them any mind. Weak fools who can only enjoy fights from a safe distance.

He recognises Sanary immediately. "Ah, it's the scum," he says, smirking lightly. He produces the Yamato and takes a stance. "Come on. Try and keep up."
Sanary Rondel She recognizes Vergil immediately. "Oh, it's the-scum?! Excuse me, Mister I-Was-Born-With-Power-And-Inherited-It!" Sanary's already looking riled up within seconds of spotting Vergil, and she wastes little time in getting right to the fight proper. "Just wait 'til I get a hand on that fancy sword o' yours!" She breaks into a run, raises her axe mightily, and...

A smaller axe slips out of her sleeve and clatters to the ground. She pauses to double back and pick it up, but drops two more from the inside of her coat in the process. This goes on about four more times before she gives up and just leaves about a dozen throwing axes on the ground, kicking them across the arena to spread them out a bit.

Not a good start. Keeping her expression somewhat level (but visibly annoyed), she reaches down to dust her sweatpants off, then jerks up suddenly to fling one of the axes towards Vergil!
Vergil     "Part of my power comes from my bloodline, yes. That does not make it less important. To say otherwise is merely the braying of the weak," Vergil says smugly as Sanary begins spreading her throwing axes around. He watches on, bemused. "Is this your plan? If you wish to engage with only fists, I can obl-"

She wings one at him, and the weapon embedds itself in his shoulder, He takes a step back and grunts in annoyance before yanking it out so his wound can close. "Here, you can have this back." He throws it back at Sanary, before vanishing in a flurry of blue effects. Appearing behind Sanary, he drives the hilt of Yamato into the small of her back to make her stagger forward into the thrown axe, before drawing his katana and slashing at her back!
Sanary Rondel "Hah! Ain't laughin' now, are..." Sanary trails off as Vergil pulls that axe out and lets the wound close right on the spot. She struggles to keep a neutral face at that, although...

... Dammit, why can't her healing work that easily?! Not that she'll admit it looks cool, of course, but still. Clenching her jaw, she holds her main axe up as she prepares for that axe flung right back at her. "You think I ain't ever caught one of these before? I've been usin' axes lon-"

And then Vergil disappears. Right. The teleporting. She twists around in preparation for what she can only assume is an attack from behind, but she's too slow to actually make good on that. For once, her brain goes faster than her body can, and she gets a nice, deep cut to her back and an axe wedged into her shoulder for her trouble.

"Son of a...!" Lurching forward, Sanary focuses as a green light surrounds her wounds, stemming the bleeding while she yanks that axe right back out with a painful squishing noise. She swings it back once, but doesn't actually throw it, then brings it back down for the real throw! She follows that up with scraping her larger axe against the ground to fling some sand right at the swordsman, then an actual swing at his shin!
Vergil     "I believe that people only laugh at jokes that are amusing," Vergil says from behind Sanary. It's an insult, but one that takes some thinking about. But, as he slowly sheathes Yamato from that back-splitting slash, Sanary swings back at him. He takes the swipe from the throwing axe, tries to backstep but eats the following toss that slows his momentum. The sand hits his face, blinding him enough that he can't see the slash at his shin. He takes a knee and shouts "Blast!" before side-rolling to get away.

"Not bad," he concedes. Frustratingly, he's standing on that leg again like nothing happened. "But now it's my turn." He lunges forward, crossing the distance in an instant to thrust Yamato at Sanary, before sheathing and drawing it in a blink into a heavy upward slash to knock her into the air! As she comes down, he sheathes Yamato a second time, before his hand blurs. In that instant, he drew and sheathed it again, cutting with such power that Sanary plummets into a bubble of whirling, space-cutting slashes!
Sanary Rondel Sanary's grinning as she manages to catch Vergil with her improvised asshole fighting maneuvers, the expression wavering only slightly when he still manages to look cool and indifferent despite all of that. She twirls her axe around in her hand once before holding it forward defensively, bracing it and tilting her head back to beckon Vergil onwards. "Come on! Let's see how strong you are without all the teleporty bullshit!"

And then he hits her hard enough with Yamato to straight up launch her into the sky. Even with the axe bearing the brunt of the hit, Sanary can feel the impact punching through the weapon right into her, and she's winded for that moment as she falls right back into those waiting slashes. Instead of trying to avoid them or parry them, the healer opts to focus entirely on minimizing damage, compressing herself into the balliest-shape she can and pouring out healing magic to try and weather the worst of those slashes!

On the plus side, the massive spray of blood doesn't indicate any continued leaking of blood. The pain is still there, but at least nothing's falling off besides parts of her coat. She can't even come up with a clever quip as she staggers back onto her feet, brushing hair and blood out of her face before resting the axe on her shoulder.

"Enough messin' around... Let's see how you do against this!" Kicking one of the fallen axes up into her hand, Sanary rushes for Vergil once more... Sort of. She's not nearly as fast and it takes a bit to get there, but once she reaches him, she starts lashing out with a flurry of axe strikes from both hands!
Vergil     vergil closes up his guard as Sanary comes rushing in, swinging her axe two-handed. The first couple of swings are deflected by the sheathed Yamato, but the fury of the assault eventually shoves the blade and Vergil's arms aside, leaving him open to have his chest caved by the axe!

He vanishes and reappears steps away. His wounds are gone again, but the blood on Sanary's axe is real. She really opened him up that time. Vergil exhales a long breath, before pushing his hair back into place. "Is that your best? Rushing in and swinging wildly?" He spins on the spot, launching a low kick that knocks up several of Sanary's scattered throwing axes. He then lashes out with Yamato, sending the axes flying at Sanary, one after the other, before chasing them with a barrage of summoned swords.

    "Show me your motivation!"
Sanary Rondel "Uh... Yep. Worked on you, didn't it?" Sanary's grin becomes a positively shit-eating one as she somehow manages to impress herself, although her jubilance is short lived as Vergil goes for... The axes? The axes. The reason becomes clear when she starts launching them at her /with/ his sword, forcing the axe-fighter on the back leg as she focuses on deflecting the things.

Deflecting the summoned swords is a different story. More specifically, she's not deflecting any of that. She manages to hit exactly one before the rest slice and pierce into her, forcing the healer to buckle down and angle herself just to present a smaller target. Green light flows off her wounds as it becomes more apparent that she's been funneling magic into them this whole time, keeping herself from falling apart through sheer brute force!

Or magic force or something. Either way, it's not entirely different from Vergil's own methods, as the blood that's staining the arena is all blood she can't put back in. "You wanna see motivation, huh...? Heh. That's the type of thing I should be sayin'. What's a demon guy like you even need with a tournament like this?"

Picking up an axe, she flings it at Vergil before starting to approach him again. "You trying to impress someone? Proving something to yourself? The prizes? Which is it?" Grinning again, Sanary's expression turns just a bit more wild as she launches herself at Vergil, attacking him with both swings and just trying to grab him, to swing him around, to try and limit his mobility at least for a moment. "Someone like you's gotta have a good reason for all this!"
Vergil     Vergil actually does laugh as Sanary pointed out that it 'worked.' "But I'm still standing. Lucky strikes do not make you a skilled warrior." He watches as she managed to deflect the axes, but not the swords. She too, is still standing though. And she has questions; why bother with all this? Vergil pauses for a moment, and plants the sheathed Yamato before him.

"I've no need for material things. I've no one to impress, and no one to prove anything to." He looks to the roaring crowd, before turning his attention back to Sanary, and clenching his fist before him. "I do it so that this Multiverse can know this devil's power!" In an azure flash, he shifts into his demonic form, energies pouring from him as he readies his attack. "Curse your fate that you have to be the one held up as an example!"

He moves, faster than ever before. He bips around the arena, leaving trailing blue afterimages as he tries to confuse Sanary, keep her guessing as to where he's going to come from. When he finally does move in, it's right from the front. Yamato flashes, over and over again as he cuts into Sanary, slicing like a frenzied madman. With each slice, more and more summoned swords appear in the air all around them, each one pointing towards Sanary.

He then stops, turns his back on her, and deactivates his Devil Trigger. Slowly, he returns Yamato to its sheath, as all those summoned swords come crashing down on Sanary.
Sanary Rondel "That's true... My luck's been crappy all my life, so I guess that makes me pretty good in that case, eh?" Sanary laughs, but there's still a deep undercurrent of 'oh this guy please die' in it. Following his gaze to the crowd, Sanary takes a deep breath, thankful just to have that breather. She's about to say something in response when Vergil's appearance suddenly shifts, and he transfers into a fully demonic-looking... Demon!

So this is where it all goes to shit. With her general inability to avoid Vergil's attacks, it's probably not that surprising that Sanary's going for what she knows works: Use her axe as a shield, use her healing magic as a buffer, and just hope that subtle movements will be enough to protect her from his Smokin' Sexy Style!

It's not like he's missed a beat this whole time. That's gotta count for lots of style points, right?

As expected, the healer can't keep up with a single one of Vergil's movements. By the time she looks one way, he's already zipped around twice. It's all she can do just to keep her axe somewhere vaguely in front of her by the time he makes his move, and it might as well not be there with all the cuts and slices hitting her from all directions. If it had ended there, she'd.. Well, she'd be in bad shape, but she'd be standing! With the summoned swords coming in afterwards, however, the healer's forced to take a knee as she's all but pinned to the ground between the blades running her through. Blood covers just about everything, the healer keeps gasping painfully, and even one of her arms looks like it's on the verge of falling off!

The green glow continues. It's probably the only thing holding her somewhat up at this point, and she tilts her head back to stare defiantly at Vergil. "Sh... Shit. You... Really got a... Huh." She chuckles and winces, even that slight movement causing considerable pain. "H.. Hey. Got somethin' for ya." She holds a finger up, points at her head, and a red glow surrounds her eye. Channeling all that's left of her magic into that eye, she fires off a thin laser at the demon swordsman that quickly balloons out into a massive series of explosions, clearly a last ditch attempt to bring him down!
Vergil     Vergil seems shocked that Sanary is still standing. "Hmph. That healing power of yours does work, at least," he says down to her. "Concede. I do not wish to be disqualified by killing you." It is at that moment she says she has something for him, indicating her artificial eye. Vergil remembers, back in the bamboo clearing. The eye beam. "You dare-!" he starts to say, before it pops off.

Vergil is consumed by the beams and explosion, the arena shaking and dust coming up. The summon swords pinning Sanary dissipate, but the clouds of debris obscure Vergil's form. Has he fallen? A long pregnant moment is filled with even the silence of the crowd. And then his hand emerges from the dust, grabbing the prone Sanary and yanking her up to her feet.

"You DARE try to end this battle with such a weapon?!" he snarls at her. "I'll not be brought low by the tools of the weak again!" He jabs her in the gut with the hilt of the sheathed Yamato hard enough that she goes flying back, along with the actual sword! This seems part of the plan through, as Vergil javelin throws said sheath at Sanary, making it slide along the length of Yamato's blade to impact her again, sending her crashing into the arena walls!
Sanary Rondel Sanary keeps chuckling and wincing in a sustained cycle, the pain from chuckling dulled just enough for her to laugh at Vergil showing such disdain for her method of fighting before looping back into wincing from pain. It's a vicious cycle, one that the healer is simply too dumb to break herself out of. There's a brief hope spot for her when it looks like Vergil's actually down, but that moment is short lived once he pulled her up, swords and axes and everything still stuck inside her.

"Ggh... Heh. Y-yeah. How... How pissed off would you-"

She doesn't get to finish that sentence as Vergil strikes her gut with the sheathed blade, sending her slamming right into a wall and cratering her into it with the follow-up from the sheath. She spits out a chunk of something bloody before slowly sliding and peeling off that wall, landing with a painful thud.

She holds a hand up to make a vague gesture, but it's clear that she's barely even crawling on fumes at this point. Sanary isn't getting up any time soon.
Vergil     Vergil strides over to Sanary's prone form and snatches up Yamato with a barely concealed sneer on his face. "Weak," is all he says, before exiting the arena. Once he's in the tunnels, away from the eyes of the crowd, he slumps against a wall and groans. Though he was able to hold out against it, that last laser blast took a lot out of him. He was barely able to hold on.

"I still need more power...!" he says to himself, before getting back to his feet and setting off.
