Touta Konoe      The Shrine of Adversity is known throghtout the Multiverse for outstanding shows of valor and strength amongst Elites. But with the announcment of the Multiverse Tournament the crowds around the place have never been so packed, and the seats are filled to capacity of the stadium. The noise of the crowd is intoxicating and anticipation is swelling but the noise is cut through as a voice comes through on the speakers.

"Welcome everyone, are you ready for this?!"

The crowd begins cheer and applaud before he speaks up again.

"Excellent! For those of you who don't know me, the name's Touta Konoe! And I've been asked to be your guest commentator for this fight! My job is to give the play by play of our two Elite Competitors as they throw down with everything they've got to prove they have what it takes to continue on! So without further ado, I'm proud to introduce ...Oh hey, look at this...I'm proud to introduce two friends of mine for you all this evening! In our red corner we have royalty coming all the way here from the amongst the stars! I present the Queen of the Moon Cell, Caaaaaaaster!!!!" The crowd lights up with excitement as the intro would be given allowing for Caster to show off as she felt the need to for her intro.

"And in our blue corner, coming from the land of Poqmori, we have the Pokemorph that really knows how to heat things up! The Crypt that Awaits the End of Time, Mooooooortimeeeeeeeeeeeeeer Baaaaaaalmaaaaaaan!!!!" Once again Touta leaves a bit of a pause so the crowds can give their cheers and praises and as well that Mort can take in a bit of the lime-light.

"Alright everyone, the rules are simple. Two people come in, and one wins when they other is incapable of fighting any longer. Everything else is fair game. And with both of our contestants being battle hardened this should definitely be a show stopper! Now everyone here comes the count down...Three...Two...One...FIIIIIIGHT!!!"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer strolls toward the arena at Touta's announcement, lights briefly focusing on him as he walks at a leisurely pace. Calmly smoking his pipe, while his mane flares up around behind him. The colors flicker rapidly between a sickly glowing green, a wraithly sort of purple, and the normal bright inferno red. The flames lick at everything around them, but without actually setting anything ablaze as he goes. They cast a strange shadow around the old badger, which enhances the music that accompanies his arrival.

(Stage Music: Blues Saraceno - Dogs of War) He walks in pace with the melody, until hopping up into the fighting arena, cracking his knuckles and bones and really stretching all those weary old joints out. He is dressed simply in a weathered and in some places raggedy set of old BDUs, remnants of a military garb from a force that ceased to exist literally ages ago. The mantle (short cape, for those wondering) flutters.. Well. Not majestically. Not that frayed old rag. It's the opposite of majestic- more like the hollow echo of some monument to a forgotten land, resisting the pull of time out of sheer stubbornness and spite. Less awe-inspiring, more somber and perhaps even unnerving.

He has not brought any weapons today, but given the fact that he's on fire- and that the fires that make up his hair sometimes seem to form faces- he probably doesn't need any.

Though, one may wonder, does he plan to mage-duel /Caster/ of all people?
Tamamo no Mae     BGM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uf3O_99AQc

A pair of generic looking Attack Programs start floating out of where Tamamo would exit into the stage, triple tails swish behind the swimsuit-wearing, blue and white beach parasol-wielding Caster? Tamamo's look is stoic, serene as she lets the parasol fly, it spins rapidly towards the center of the stage, to keep eyes off her as her body shimmers, and then coalesces back into her normal Caster regalia. There's waves to the crowd, and to cameras, as she revels in the hype. Tamamo's ears perk up when she hears the name of her opponent and she just /grins/.

Tamamo waits at the edge, looking down the arena towards her opponent, a content smile now resting upon her face. "Ah, Mortimer, fancy meeting you as one of my opponents." she comments, her left hand extends and the Mirror of Uka slowly floats above it, "I'll assure you that the Vulpix is being taken care of quite nicely and is currently resting."

Some talismans drop to the ground from one of her sleeves near her resting place, and she bows towards him. "You've changed since the last I saw you, Mortimer, I do hope you're all the wiser for the time apart." There's some approaching, taps of clogs upon the floor, "I wish you nothing but the best here." Tamamo's eyes look a bit more at him, no weapons? Is he seriously going to try to out-magic the Caster?! Nah, can't be.

There's a spin from the Caster and out launch a few testing shots, ice-imbued talismans fly out from her sleeves and her tails to rain down upon Mortimer to start the fated encounter!
Mortimer Balman      Mort is caught off guard somewhat by Tamamo's strike. "Nnf.. Eager little Ninetales, aren't you?" Pulling a bloody shard of ice from his chest, he lets it melt and then bursts forth at Tamamo. "Glad to hear about yer little friend, how's yer pet husband doin'?" It's his turn to form some manner of ice spell, weaving strands of magic between his hands and chanting an incantation as he charges... Past? Tamamo.

"Biting wings of the Winterlord, remind us forgotten truths!" His body twists around once he's passed her, and he slams his fists into the ground, creating geometric shapes that etch themselves in glowing frost. "Patient Frozen Phoenix: Broken Glacier Storm!" A sudden gale of freezing winds- far less sophisticated than Tamamo's spellcraft, a wildly swung mace compared to a surgeon's scalpel by comparison- and razor sharp shards of ice and biting snow follow in the wake of his casting. Short range but pretty fierce.

And while painfully clear that he is nowhere near Tamamo's level of skill- a blunt stick swung at someone's face can be just as painful as a carefully aimed scalpel.
Tamamo no Mae     "Very eager." Tamamo replies back, smirking some "Ninetails, evolutionary form of Vulpix. I studied a bit!" she pauses, "Pet... husb..." she giggles, "He's doing fine, he's in the tournament as well, not in our bracket, so I get to show you what I can do when he's not around." which isn't too much. But once Mortimer starts moving, the fox brings up her hands to guard against the incoming strike... that doesn't come. She blinks, "Mikon?"

She turns around, still with her hands up, just in case... she might be a Caster but she's not stupid. "Incantations?!" the frost shapes up and the razor shards of ice come crashing into her, making her skid back a few feet from the impact, and ripping holes into her robes.

A quick shake of her head and she dashes right in, her mirror is on fire now and she grins. "Hi, Mortimer." she starts, stepping back, as she snaps her fingers, the talismans she dropped at her feet earlier explode into a pillar of fire, "Never try to outfox the fox. She can really dish it right back!" pause "You do have to tell me where you learned these incantations, I'll be glad to teach you more magecraft in the future!"

With this, she ducks back and lights her mirror on fire, readying something else.
Mortimer Balman      The sudden flame following the cold scorches Mort's clothes, and most of his back. "Gh!" Elemental affinity or not, Tamamo is a powerful caster, and that shit burns hot. "Believe it or not-" He starts pushing hard through the flames, "My father was a fairly powerful warlock!" Instead of trying to focus on further spellcraft, Mort starts leaping through the air, spinning around toward Tamamo to deliver a nasty series of aerial kicks, and upon landing he'll be trying to crowd her to deliver powerful elbow strikes around her torso and face.

"I studied a LOT of magecraft, growing up! But I never had the innate talents needed for /casting/, until recently. Surely, you recognize the power!" She ought to, given that Mort has not been seen without his faithful ghostly servant, and Mortimer looks an awful lot like he's stepped half into the grave..
Touta Konoe      The battle begins and Tamamo's the first to unleash her assault, and like clockwork, Touta's making sure to try and keep pace with what's going on to make sure he's not talking over the action but still giving any proper commentary that needed to be given since there was never any guarantee the crowds new what kind of stuff the Elites used. Though...

"And the match begins with Caster sending several ice shards at Mortimer, using her talisman magic! And they look like they hit Mort right in the chest! Even with all that fire a hit like that's gonna leave a mark! But look here folks, what's this?! Mort looks like he's starting some sort of chant, what could be up his sle- What the?! Ladies and gentlemen! He's gone past her! I don't know what he just did but like a phantom it looks like he went from one side of the arena to the next! And now the encantations stop but Mort looks like he's just getting started! It looks like instead of fighting fire with fire he's fighting ice with ice with a huge ice storm of his own! Caster seems to dish it out, but can she take it?!"

"And it looks like Caster's knowledge of magic comes in handy in this case! She sees those incantations and knows to get her guard up nice and quick! She's apparently not out of her element here but looks like she still took a bit of a huff from Mortimer's icy puff of wind!"

The crowd begins to get ecstatic. If not a bit chilly from all of the continued ice attacks....Thankfully it looks like things were about really start heating up now.
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo's not that fast on her feet and even slower reacting to an actual physical attack! The aerial kicks catch her with her guard down and the movements allow those elbow strikes to her torso and face to hit home with great effect, sending the Caster down to the ground from the last strike. With a loud "MIkon!" from landing, she coughs to catch her breath, ears perking slightly, "Where's your friend?" she questions, looking at the badger with a studious gaze..

"If you've studied magecraft and your father was a warlock..." Tamamo's lips curl into a wicked smile and she hops herself back up, mirror floating around her as she kicks off the ground to dash right back into Mortimer's melee! "I can do that too!" Tamamo jumps into the air, her outfit shimmers as it switches back to her swimsuit and she starts to dive straight towards the Badger with her leg outstretched!

"HIYAH!" that kick is aimed towards the center of Mortimer's body, and regardless if she lands it or not, her outfit shimmers back to the Caster robes, replete with holes from earlier!
Touta Konoe      "And it looks like Caster will be the first one to bring the heat! It looks like that mirror is really going alight with fire and the talismans she's set up on the battle field have begun to create an spyraling inferno and it's going straight for the Pokemorph of flames, himself! Can he take the heat?!"

At this point even Touta has to stay silent and watch as the fight continues to unfold. The crowd goes agasp as Mort is caught in the flames. Seeing the flames seeth his back and clothes.

"That definitely didn't look good, but Mort keeps on trucking going for a new attack approach! Instead of going spell for spell with Caster he's decided to get up close and personal with a flurry of kicks from above! And he's not done yet folks! He makes sure to keep the pressure on this fox with an assortment of elbow strikes at her face! How will this fox do when the fists start coming?!"

Caster hits the ground and some of the crowd cheers and some go silent. It seems like lines had been made amongst who were Mort fans and who were Caster fans after everything they had done up to this point. Wonder who gets the rights to their merchandise?

"OOooh! I know that 'Mikon' folks! Caster takes a nasty fall from Mort's hits. She'll want to collect herself quickly before Mort gets the jump on her once more. And speaking of jumping it looks like Caster's gets some real air time as she jumps up! Wait what's this?! How did she do that?! She's gone from wearing a Kimono into a swimsuit! I'm not kidding you folks! I'm not sure why either but whatever the reason it looks like she's not done yet! Just as quick as her costume change she's slamming back down with a kick that looks like it's ready to blow Mortimer away!"
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer pauses his assault at the question of 'where's your friend.' He looks.. Sad. His movements slow down so that Tamamo's kick does not hit where she intended.

The kick hits him dead in the face instead, but it doesn't seem like it's hit as hard as Tamamo was probably aiming for. Oh, to be certain, that broke teeth. Blood flies out of his mouth and hits the ground, sizzling and boiling. A few chunks of tooth are spat out, and his eyes refocus on Tamamo. "...She's.. Gone." It's difficult for him to say, clearly.

His face hardens a bit after finally getting the words out of his mouth. His eyes change a bit.. The sclera turns black as pitch and the irises start to glow. "But she left me with a gift, for her passing." The flames around his head flare out again, a grand conflagration- more to show off to the crowd than to intimidate Tamamo. "Of course.. I'm nowhere near *your* level."

The wraithly flames start coming out of his mouth as he talks, giving off a foul-smelling smoke as he sucks in air. Trying to match Tamamo in magic is a fool's errand- but there are few who can match him when it comes to the purity of Flame. A massive gout is expelled from the depths of his stomach. Like the ones that wreath his skull, these flames are tainted with the energies of Death, and they seem to... /Cling/ to whatever they touch, like napalm.
Touta Konoe      "Ouch! You can literally see the teeth go flying all the way up from here in the booth...Let's all take a moment to appreciate how the Shrine of Adversity works. Man, Mort really won't be winning any beauty contests after that- "

Before he can even continue something occurs on the stadium floor. Mort's flames begin to swell intensely and his demeanor feels more...Ominous. It's odd to look at something so hot give you the chills. Touta tries speaking in the hyped voice from before but instead he can only really speak in a bit of a surprise.

"W-what the, What's Mort got going on now? After that last kick Mort's flames have gotten...Weird. I don't even know how to describe this flame but...He's releasing it now! Caster, heads up!!!"
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo bounces off of the fire-badger and lands on her feet with a smirk, "Sorry about that, not where I /intended/ to aim, but it works." she comments, backing up a bit, mirror floating up "Gone?" comes the curious question from the curious fox. As he gets up, she backs up just a bit more, watching the transformation take place, "A gift?" she mutters, watching the grand conflagration erupt from the Typhlosion. "I would say it's impossible to be near my level but..."

"Stranger things have happened." she finishes, watching the flames expel from the mouth. "Mikon?" she questions, then perks up, "Mighty Mirror of Uka, guard me from the incoming fire, save me from the wicked burning flames!" she tries for a defensive charm, pulling her mirror in front of her as she braces for what's about to come. That gout of flame rushes over her mirror, and around and onto her, the fox braces herself through the firey onslaught and for a moment, she looks like she's going to pull through.

Until the light of her mirror goes out, unable to contain the flames that wash over her. There's a loud scream of pain as the fire immolates the fox-eared caster and soon, she slumps forward, whispering "Seifer...", faceplanting into the ground, bouncing.
Mortimer Balman      Mortimer looks down at his opponent, the flames steadily dying down. With a wave of his hand, they extinguish entirely, and he pulls his pipe out once again. A short puff to light it, and he snaps his fingers. On cue, Switchbait flutters into the arena and levitates Tamamo off the ground with his mind, gently and carefully carrying the kitsune out of the arena so that the magic of the Shrine can do its job.

Mort for his part stands there for a bit longer, and proceeds to make a victory pose, half-turning toward the main camera displays and conjuring a flame with a cackling face between his hands.
Touta Konoe      The crowd goes silent for a moment as the flames release and Fox tries blocking. In the moment all they can do is watch as the two Elites put their all into offense and defense exclusively. Mort's literal 'Hellfire' versus the divinity of Caster's Mirror of Uka as both fight for supremacy.

"This is crazy! I can't see what's going on at all! With all the fire and smoke I can't make out what's going on at all! All I know is that I can feel the heat of those flames all the way up from here in the booth!" It's only in the final moments of the exchange, and smoke settles amongst the stadium do silhouttes appear from the smoke.

"It looks like this could be it folks. The smoke is clearing and it looks like one of the contenders is down...And that contender is...Caster...Yes, Caster is down. Which means...the winner of this fight is Mortimer Balman!"

The crowds' excitement is split. Some shout in praise of Mortimer, while others start jeering him as some of the Fox's fans had really wanted their 'queen' to win. Though when Switchbait goes to help Caster and Mort offers up a bit of fanservice with some fiery smiles there's a bit more applause that goes around for his sportsmanship.

At this time the effects of the Shrine begin taking effect. Burns get healed, wounds recover, closing is patched, and teeth return to where they belong.

"And there you have it folks! What did you all think of the match! Were you excited for our fire badger who won the day?! Maybe you were a bit more fond of our foxy queen! Well, the good news is you'll be able to see more of both of them in the matches to come! My name's Touta Konoe, and I hope we'll be seeing you all soon in the next matches to come! Now...A message from our sponsor."
