Android 17 Once more, it was time for the arena to erupt into cheers, as another match in the MECC was to take place.  The announcers doing their best to get the audience riled for the event, as the two fighters would make their way to the arena.  On one side was Android Seventeen, in his normal outfit.  Blue jeans with a green and white shirt, and a band on his arm with the word 'RANGER' on it.  His hair is black and falls around his head.  His eyes are a piercing blue, with sharp features.

Pulling his hands out of his pockets, he reveals gloved hands, as he stretches his arms above his head.  With a very lack of emotion, he moves towards the other side of the arena, offering Staren a handshake before the match starts.

"May the best man win," he says, with a polite tone, before returning to his side and waiting for the match to be called.
Staren     Staren walks out as he's announced, smiling and giving a quick wave to the crowd. Initially he's dressed in a more military-looking version of his usual clothes, with coat and slacks and boots, but when he adjusts his belt buckle a ring of light travels over his body, clothes fading to reveal not flesh but metal. The outward construction is actually rather simplistic; jointed cylindrical limbs rather than trying to ape the shape of a human exactly. Parts are painted red or sea green, others made of transparent metal that shows the machnery inside. The face has a sculpted nose and mouth, but the optics look weird, like reflectors. "Indeed. I was going to make a comment about pitting my skill as a roboticist against Dr. Gero's..." There's a soft flash of light as combat armor is teleported onto him. He had to stand in exactly the right spot and pose to get that stunt to work.

He adopts a fighting stance. "...But you're more than just a creation, just as this body is no mindless drone. May the best /man/ win, indeed!"

Staren hesitates for a moment to see if Seventeen will attack first, then puts the pressure on, raising his right arm to fire the beam cannons there and walking towards him.
Android 17 The little bit of warmth that was there in Seventeen's tone and gestures leaves as soon as Staren mentions Gero, and worse mentions his desire to compare himself to the man.  There is sucking in of air, as he walks back to his side of the arena.  Turning, he stares at Staren, beams shots firing first as he moves to try and keep away from them.

Light is hard to dodge, even with his supernatural speed, so he moves just enough so that the edges of the beam connect with clothing and burning skin.  Driven back by the attack, he vanishes, only to appear above Staren, aiming to bring both arms down in a massive hammer blow to the back of the man's head.

This is followed up with a blast of energy from his arms, perhaps a bit more...larger than he would be expecting.
Staren     Staren had a speech about something something dr gero ready to go and then realized it was a bad idea when he opened his mouth. Turns out that admitting that in his improvisation was also a mistake. You tried, Staren! Sort of. Staren's expression behind the visor is one of 'I fucked up', but not so severely he'll stop the fight over it.

Seventeen disappearing, he was ready for. The moment it happen, Staren turns around... and gets clonked on the head from above. The helmet dents slightly, cracks spiderwebbing out from the impact. Staren tried to bring up his forcefield but 17's too close. The energy sends him stumbling back, a glowing hole in his chest armor revealing the metal skin beneath. "Hmh."

Staren's arm is pointed towards 17 again, but this time fires a micromissile, the kind that detonates into a tiny piercing lance of plasma a few feet away from its target. The cat-man tries to track the cyborg's movements, following up with scattered shots from the two particle beam cannons -- rather than focusing fire, trying to keep a weapon ready off cooldown so that Seventeen has to keep moving if he doesn't want to get blasted with /something/. The forcefield flickers on whenever he's not shooting now, too.
Android 17 Seventeen starts moving backward as the plasma shots start raining down at him.  He moves quickly, just narrowly out of range of the blasts, but they were meant to track him.  The particle beams race towards him, and Seventeen's reaction times are surprisingly superior.

A green barrier appearing directly in front of him just milliseconds before the plasma was to hit.  The barrier is like a rock in a stream standing resolute to the beam of energy that washes over the android until it ends.  There was another disappearing act, as Seventeen boosts his speed even more, as power flows through his systems.

This time, instead of aiming to appear behind Staren, he appears just in front of him, crouched down and aims an uppercut for the underside of his jaw.  His hands snap out to try and grab him, before swinging and aiming to launch him across the arena.
Staren     So, they both have forcefields! Troublesome.

Staren isn't expecting any particular teleport destination this time -- he doesn't turn around to fire, he just watches his sensors, and the moment 17 appears so close to him, wings of translucent energy apepar on his back and buzz like an insect's, togeher with thrusters in his feet firing as he leaps back and away out of reach.

Staren will just have to bring down that forcefield somehow. And he knows how people drop his own: By hitting it a lot! Missile racks pop up from behind Staren's shoulders and ripple-fire their payload, nearly twenty half-inch-wide cylinders launching one after the other. These are longer than the others, packed with more propellant for longer distances, not that that matters in this bout. On impact (with seventeen or the field, or if he manages to lure them into the floor) they release massive bursts of heat. Perhaps Staren hopes that even if the forcefield keeps matter from crossing, it will conduct heat through and cook the area inside? Either way, they're both finding out now!
Android 17 The heat washes over Seventeen, who attempts to block with his forearms and attempts to use his energy to soften the blow.  However, it wasn't enough, and the force of the attack still burns and boils his body, causing some trouble for him.  However, it wasn't enough to drop him, and afterward...he is far from defeated either.

This time, the speed that comes at Staren is just blinding, aiming to try and swing towards the side of the man's robot's 'head' followed by a second and a third.  He just repeatedly starts punching the robot, before attempting to bring both feet out into a kick straight into the chest.

Both hands come up from either side and aim forward, aiming another blast of energy to try and make up for the lost time.
Staren     Fortunately for Staren, he has his forcefield up this time... unfortunately, Seventeen finds that punching it definitely has an effect: Not only do sections of the field get smashed and crushed into fading, amber sparkles, but any real application of force sends Staren tumbling like a hamster in a ball! Staren can't really do anything but hang in there without exposing himself to getting grabbed or something, so he bears it until he's kicked away, wings appearing again and arresting his movement some distance from 17, righting himself just in time for the energy beam to blow away another chunk of the field's mass. It's left flickering and uneven, maybe half its thickness blasted away in just a few seconds of attacks.

Staren can't just sit there and take it though, or Seventeen will pummel through one defense after another. He takes to the air and flies erratically, trying to make it hard for Seventeen to anticipate movements and tele-punch him again, while firing a particle beam every couple of seconds to keep Seventeen from getting a chance to rest either!
Android 17 Seventeen is a man on a mission now, and rest is the last thing he cares about.  That is the thing, he hasn't stopped to rest, he hasn't stopped to recharge, he hasn't shown any signs of fatigue or overexertion.  He simply goes on unbothered by physical pressure.  His body dances around, and a green flash of the shield.  This time, however, it isn't enough to block ALL of the attacks, but enough to keep him from feeling too much.

Staren, however, is on the defensive.  Seventeen blinks out again, this time coming from the right and smashes a foot right across the machine or barrier, aiming to try and continue to keep the pressure on the scientist.  The kick turns into another blast, followed by a flip kick off of the machine.  He floats back, keeping his distance for the moment.

He does not seem to reengage in melee for some reason.
Staren     The forcefield doesn't come up this time -- instead, Staren takes the opportunity to discharge electricity on contact, aiming to fry some of 17's circuits! This does mean that Seventeen gets the hits in though, cracking and denting more of his armor, leaving Staren looking pretty beat-up even if he does block with his arms and roll with the punches to try and lessen the damage a bit.

When Seventeen suddenly keeps his distance, Staren looks down at himself, and then around. Could he have planted an explosive or something without Staren seeing?
Android 17 Unfortunately for Staren, Android Seventeen isn't actually an android.  Fortunately for Staren,  Seventeen is still affected by electricity like everyone else is.  Skin sizzles and burns, so that's a problem he doesn't like very much.  Electricity is bad, mmmmkay?

Still keeping his distance, he fires a barrage of shots from his hands towards Staren, continuing to keep the range between them.  The shots fire, and as they do move to target his opponent, aiming to continuously track him

Seems like Seventeen is full of surprises.
Staren     Staren pours on the thrusters, flying away from the initial wave of attacks. He takes a deep breath... and then realizes they're /chasing/ him!

Staren flies around the arena, trying to lead the blasts into the arena floor and absorbing some of them with his forcefield, which looks even worse for wear, thin and flickering every time it appears.

But he doesn't just dodge. As Staren flies, he pulls weapon after weapon out of his bag. Some kind of sleek raygun fires an innocuous-looking energy bullet that explodes like half a ton of TNT on impact. A large revolver fires shotgun shells that hit hard. A large rifle-looking thing is a missile launcher. Another a laser rifle with underbarrel plasma grenade launcher. His left hand blasts away with a laser pistol, a missile pistol, a submachinegun. Weapons are dropped once depleted and fresh ones are drawn. (Normally he wouldn't, but it's not like he can LOSE them here).

No longer constrained by the beam cannons' cooldown, Staren turns the pressure up the highest yet, a constant hail of weird science, bullets, missiles, and lasers zapping through the air!
Android 17 Staren releases /everything/ at Seventeen, and does not stop for anything.  Seventeen looks cooly towards it, not panicking or anything.  He summons as much energy as he can, and the Android Barrier becomes active.  The green field extends all around him, trying to withstand the might of the arsenal.  The area around him is completely scorched and burned.  Everything is ruble and smoke, and for a moment there is no movement.

That is because Seventeen is above Staren now, the barrier had failed, and a chunk managed to make it through to hurt Seventeen, blood splattered across his body, scorch marks on his clothing, but he was still up on his feet.

He dives straight down from above, aiming to smash into the back of the Genius, aiming to send him flying.  Appearing seconds later (if Staren is hit) directly on his path directly behind him to kick him straight up.  Once more he follows, this time bringing both arms down into a hammer blow aiming to smash him into the arena itself.

Electrical balls of energy form in the Android's hands, as he forces it down into one giant burst, aiming to try and blast him on the ground.
Staren                                      SMASH!

17's still up?! Staren tries to draw a bead on him to fire. More tiny missiles launch from his arms, trying to track seventeen. And then the armor pops off them, the metal skin underneath glowing as some kind of attack is charged up...

SMASH! Staren's kicked straight up. The armor on his chest shatters.

SMASH! The metal skin of Staren's chest is warped and broken -- things go crunch inside that are not supposed to go crunch inside.

Staren slams into the arena in a satisfying crater. Thrusters sputter as they try to push him out of the way of the oncoming attack, but malfunction.

When the energy and smoke clears, robo-Staren's armor is blackened and there's a big hole right through him, where that final punch made a weak point and the energy blast finished the job.

An announcer's voice rings out, "The winner is... ANDROID SEVENTEEN!" The crowd goes wild!

Once Staren's rewound to his unhurt self, he extends a hand to shake. "Well fought." If Seventeen still looks angry, he adds: "I'm sorry for bringing that up."
Android 17 Seventeen lands, body aching and pushed past his limits, but with that...remarkably close fight he lands near Staren.  Looking down at the genius, and hearing his apology he sighs.

He extends a hand down to help him up, and give another handshake.  "It's fine, don't aspire to be that man...aspire to be almost anything else...but not him.  The man who ruined the lives of two orphans for revenge."

It's a somber tone, but he brightens up a moment after, "Anyway, well fought.  You're pretty tough for a science guy."
Staren     Staren blinks. "Thanks. And I don't aspire to be like him, I had this like..." Staren rubs the back of his neck, "Vague idea for a 'android-vs-android' speech, but decided it was a bad idea at the last moment and... kinda flubbed it, I guess."
Android 17     "Ah...I have a feeling you're bad at the thinking before you talk, huh?" Seventeen says with a laugh. Oh well, now that he KNOWS Staren a little better, it's not likely to tick him off again.
Staren     Staren nods at the comment; there's no disputing some things, even if he has to be more concerned with appearances now.
