Corona Arclite Getting to the far side of Emberspill isn't all that hard. With two weeks, hard work and taking advantage of a few tricks she's learned Corona at least got a smaller bridge set up over the canyon. It'll do until the larger train tressel can be constructed. From there its a trip along a winding but thankfully not steep mountain path, until the walls of an old fort can be seen coming into view. Or what's left of the wood and iron walls might be more accurate.

With the hiss of steam powered brakes the Boom Buggy comes to a stop in front of what at one time was a main gate, and Corona pushes the rollcage up to get out. "Welp, this oughta be the place..." She squints a bit through an opening in the walls. "Definately looks old 'nuff." Trying really hard to not get OCD about the fact that the defense walls are broken and falling apart. She glances up at the sign over the former gates.

PRIS ATI PO NT

"Def'nately seen better days, though." Hopalong just grumbles something in his mechanical jibberish as the mecha-jakelope tumbles out of the cockpit.
Alexis Maaka     The Razorback, a custom made buggy with a Tau cannon and supplies for deep wilderness survival, roars across the rough terrain. Suspension keeps it from tipping over the sides among other hazards, and a few jumps are nothing the hydraulics can't handle. The buggy follows Corona's Boom Buggy as Maaka skids to a stop besides the engineer. "Keep your heads on a swivel, people." Says Maaka, as she hops out and folds her helmet into place.

She pulls her EM GASH coilgun from the rifle rack, and mounts it on her back with a dull, magnetic THUD. THen, she approaches the front gate, activaitng her grappling gun as she aims over the barrier and fires a line to make it up and over, boosters thrusting her at the last second to help her clear the gate seamlessly.
Iria A small craft arrives and Iria jumps out, wearing her cape over her armored bodysuit. She waves to the craft, which heads off on auto-pilot, then looks towards the others. Despite the fact she's only wearing a cape over her armor, she shows no sign of being cold whatsoever. Looking to Alexis, Iria raises an eyebrow. "Uh, sure," She says. "Whatever you say."

After a moment, Iria approaches the gate as well, taking out her grappling hook and firing it to get herself over as well. She lands in a crouched position before holstering her grappling hook again. "Now, let's get to work!"
Leyanne Riding outrider to the convoy, there's a low-slung, wide combat bike, carrying mounted guns. It pulls up next to the group, the big Martian stepping off. She unhooks another big ammo pack built from the frame of a Nam-era flamethrower and straps it on. The gun she picks up to go with it, however, is a single-barreled 25mm autocannon - a slower rate of fire than the minigun she brought last time, but it's going to be lobbing half-pound shells rather than 7.62mm guns. She clips the ammo feed in place, cycling the powered feed until the first shell clacks home.

She clamps the gun to the side of the ammo feed and then puts on the gloves and kneepads that Yumiko bought her. Tentatively, she puts her hands against the wall and starts to climb, giggling joyously.
Rebound Not really much for vehicles, Rebound has been moving along at the flank of the traveling convoy, on foot. Though her on foot still means being able to cross massive distances with a single jump, so she's noot having trouble keeping pace.

She lands with a hefty thud not far from where Corona has stopped, and looks up at the place, "What a dump." Says the woman who lives in an abandoned subway station, "I guess we can probably get it fixed up though, right? I mean not ME when I say we, I mean more the general we."
Kotone Yamakawa Maaka is not alone tonight, Kotone is with her geared up for trouble as that always seems to be the thing that happens here. So much so she will be more shocked the day she comes to this world and there isn't trouble to deal with. Alexis would find Kotone hoppping out shortly after her, carrying a sub machine gun across her back and clad in stelath gear.

"Here we go again. Someday maybe once we can visit here without something catching fire?"
Kung Jin Across the temporary bridge and down the winding road, another vehicle is approaching. This one is a large four-wheeled armored personnel carrier, probably carrying a small squad of soldiers. As it stops near where everyone else seems to have parked, the door opens and someone hops out. This someone is Kung Jin, who had been party to the moleman attack previously. He has his usual complement of chakram and quiver. His bow/staff is nowhere to be seen yet.

"Hey there," he greets the assembled party. "Since we ran into unexpected trouble last time, I brought friends this time," he says, as he moves out of the way of the door to the APC. There will be a few soldiers hopping out, but someone else too...
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite gives a brief tip of her hat to the new arrival with Jin, the one person here she's not yet actually met. "Name's Corona. Pleasure t'have y'all along. Hopefully it won't be nuttin' LIKE last time... but y'never know. A li'l preparin' ahead never hurt."

With that she turns back to the exterior, watching several people take the high route over the old gate. Then, being small and light herself, just wedges her way through one of the broken opens in the former wall.

On the other side, there's a few run down buildings. It's your pretty standard 'ghost town' by the looks of it, like everyone just up and left one day. Or chased out of the town. Or a dozen other things. There's a big structure that was at one time the blacksmith's, and farther down the road the city hall/sherrif's office. On the other side is the station to a non-existant railway, and what must of been the local saloon. It's old and faded but the sign can still be vagely made out to read 'Neon Armadillo'.

"Kinda what Ah expected," Corona drawls. "T'place went belly up when whatever happened in the mines chased ev'ryone off before."
Takeda Takahashi
These friends of Jin happen to be Special Forces soldiers who were helpful enough to give Jin a heck of a ride into the battlefield.

Someone else comes with them too, one who is not dressed like a Special Forces soldier with a machine gun.

It's a.. ninja? Out comes Takeda Takahashi, garbed in his yellow Shirai Ryu ninja garb and a skull mask covering half of his face. "Yo!" He greets rather wimsically shattering any imposing area he might have had with him.
Alexis Maaka     Alexis leaps off the gate, landing with a dull thud as she chuckles to Kotone. "Honestly, this place is -mostly- explosions. It's how the locals express themselves." She jokes playfully, and she nods to Takeda and Jin. "Welcome to Brimsteel, kiddo." She tells the former, nodding to him with a cheeky grin behind her visor. Then, she begins to cover alleyways and upper levels, scanning with her coilgun rifle. "Can't blame 'em. WHat was this, the one with the mole cult and the monster or something else?" She asks Corona, sweeping alertly while she begins to advance down the street.
Iria Meanwhile, Iria is surveying the general area with her binoculars. She doesn't see much at first, but she shakes her head anyway. "So someone drove them out? That ain't right." She continues to look around, frowning deeply. "This place could be really great if it weren't for them." Iria runs a hand through her hair.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace gets herself stood on top of the gatehouse, bracing herself carefully. Once there, she looks over the city with a frown, unslinging her cannon and taking a stable firing position overwatching her comrades. "Damn." She mutters, looking out at how empty, how dead the town is. "Where is everyone? THis don't look right."
Kung Jin Jin nods to Corona's words. "That's why I brought a friend." He indicates Takeda. A pause, as a few soldiers hop out of the APC as well. "Few of them, actually." He advances with the others to the town itself, frowning a bit at the walls in that particular way he does. A thought and the bow/staff appears in a puff of smoke. He takes an arrow, ties a rope to it, and then fires it into the wall -- that's apparently how he's getting up there!

He frowns again, though, as he notes Leyanne's words about the town being empty. "Great," he mutters. But after dismissing the staff again, he climbs up the rope anyway. Though if he can find a place to stand on the wall, he's going to get his bearings up there before finding a place to jump down.
Takeda Takahashi
Takeda nods as he is greeted and follows along with the others though the Special Forces soldiers stay since its usual for the elites to take on these tasks. "We'll be right back, guys!" Takeda gives the soldiers a victory sign as he follows along with the others.

No need to even use his whips to get through this one. Takeda dissapears in a burst of flame and reappears atop the wall, balancing himself with arms crossed, his bandanna fluttering in the wind looking every part the ninja even if he doesn't act like it.

"Heh, Erron would be right at home here. Hopefully he's not hiding down there somewhere." He mutters and looks over his shoulder to Jin and teases him about having to climb up with a rope. "Need me to carry you bridal style, bro??"
Rebound "So yeah, do we have a plan here, Corona?" Rebound asks, as she slides up next to the vulpine group leader, "I mean is there raiders we need to clear out or horrible pulsarium zombies we need to punch into goo or is this just an abandoned town? Because if it's the latter this is boring and you don't need my special brand of expertise, I think. I'm not much for interior decorating."
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite does her best to try not to twitch as people bring up the all the other bad scenerios that have come up before. But that's probably why she's already got her own shotgun out, and her clockwork companion at her side. "Ah'd rather have ya here and nuttin' to punch than not have ya here when there is," she retorts over her shoulder with a snicker at Rebound.

The place is dusty and silent, so it's not hard to hear ones own footsteps. Or spurs clang, in the case of Corona, as she moseys over towards the blacksmith's building and peers inside. "That's the idea, Iria. Miss C wants to fix the place up an' reopen the mine. But we gotta make sure... none of those other things y'alls mentioned are lurking about." Her tail flicks a few times. That forge inside hasn't been active in a long time. "Pro'ly wanna check out the hall. Or the saloon."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa is moving now along side Alexis and sighs. "Or it's the booze melting you when you drink it." She gies Takeda and jin a look over and smirks a bit.

"Welcome to the capitol of trouble glad to have more help here we're going toneed it."

She looks to Corona for a moment before making her gun ready and she also start to cloak as she move ahead of the others as she starts to search around.

<<heading in>>
Leyanne Leyanne Mace stays up on top of the walls, slowly walking around them, scanning for signs of trouble. Up above, it's all quiet, or at least it seems it so far.
Iria Nodding to Corona, Iria draws her pistol and checks around the general area. "If they're still around, they'd best watch out! Because we're gonna take care of 'em!" She smiles a little, albeit in an evil manner. "I ain't scared of nothing!"
Kung Jin Jin makes a face at Takeda. Apparently the latter hasn't noticed Jin up on the top of the wall yet, so Jin reaches to none-too-gently whap Takeda in the back of the head. It wont' be hard enough to knock him off the wall or anything; it's mainly aimed as a 'surprise, here I am' tease. "I could always escort you down via foot in the ass?" he suggests. Geez, are they ALREADY arguing? The mission hasn't even started yet! Though astute observation will note the ghost of a smirk there on Jin's face, despite the scowl. And he does address the mention of Erron. "Yeah, I bet. It looks like everything I've ever seen about the Old West. Though I doubt he's here. Unless money was involved."

Rebound's words get a nod. "I don't think the place was supposed to be abandoned, is the problem," he surmises. "So since it is, there's probably something screwy going on. Best to have you here to punch things if needed, yeah." He smirks. And as Kotone begins to disappear, he notes to Takeda, "Watch out for the invisible girl there. Try not to hit her if things do go FUBAR."
Alexis Maaka     Alexis nods to Corona, before motioning to Kotone to follow her. <<On me.>> She messages, before she makes her way towards what looks like the sheriff's office. Scanning with a brief pulse of magnetic sensors, essentially x-ray vision, Maaka then stacks up at the front door. If the door is closed, she'll slowly open and nudge it aside as she sweeps and clears the first room, commando training on display as she cautiously surveys the interior.
Rebound Rebound has opted to check out the saloon. After all lots of bad stuff could be lurking there. Like a booze golem. It's totally a thing. Maybe a whiskey elemental.

She strolls up to the saloon, and pushes the doors open, taking a couple of tentative steps inside in order to look around, while keeping her hands near her hips. She's seen too damn many Western films, that's for sure. She doesn't even have any guns to draw if there is trouble.
Corona Arclite Unsurprisingly inside the sheriff's office is a mess. There's old, yellowed papers scattered all over the place. A lone desk and a chair long since half crumbled to dust as it's not been used in some time. No skeletons in the jail cell so no one got left here locked up, at least. But in the end it's really no more than a large shake with a barred off room in the back for locking someone up in.

The saloon doors swing back out for a moment, then in again as Corona trods in after Rebound. "Ah'd almost think ya belong here the way ya did that," she snickers. Considering how 'to last' Brimsteel builds its saloons its little surprise its in a bit better shape than the other buildings. Just as empty looking, though. She shrugs a little, and starts towards the bar. "Wonder why the place is named after an armadillo..."
Kung Jin As soon as Jin had made his way to the ground again (after harassing Takeda, of course), he summoned his bow/staff again. For now, Jin is remaining outside. His intention is to make sure nothing sneaks up on any of the group that's looking inside the buildings. Of course, this has more or less made him a sitting duck, since he's not really particularly near anything that could be defined as 'cover'.
Rebound "Dunno. Probably owned by one?" She offers, thinking about a certain armidillo who has been a pain in her tail for too long. Yet the few chances she's had to let fate finish the job she's stepped in. She can't help but be a hero at heart, no matter how tough she might act on the outside.
Iria Seeing not much outside, Iria decides to check out the saloon as well. "Good thing Fujikuro ain't here," Iria comments with a slight scowl. "He'd be musing about drinks and what not. I swear, he needs to sober up!" She looks around the saloon with a bit of a scrutinizing eye, almost like she's trying to find some kind of clue about what happened here.
Alexis Maaka     Alexis kneels to pick up some of the papers, examining them. If there's nothing useful to read here, she'll toss the papers aside. "It's clear." She says, before exiting the office, taking a look near the bank next. This time, she kicks the door down before sweeping and clearing, keeping her rifle ready as she begins to search the building room by room.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa looks to Kin for a moment even if he can't see it. She does not want to get hit by allied fire and with new allies it didn't cross her mind to bring it up. Jin may have just stopped some serious problems for her. She'll scout out the office check the papers before she looks to the back room maybe she can find a key, failiong that she could try to brute force the door. <<Humm I wonder about the door maybe there's a key or we could brute force it?>>
Corona Arclite There's a couple of old wanted posters and such things you'd expect around a sheriff's office, but likely none of them are relevant any more. Most of the paper is too yellow and faded to matter. Other than a few on the desk, several which are scribblings about 'that lunatic in the cabin' or 'miner neglect' and 'shoddy shaft construction'. All weird, but not one specifically stating what happened with the mine itself.

The jail bars are still solid.. but the wood frame holding them in has long since begun rotting, so pulling them free wouldn't be hard if one had the inclination to do so.

"M'be." Corona plops down on one of the bar stools and spins a few times. "These still work at least. Bet with a bit of fixin' up this'd be a good place for blowin' off some steam again." The fox adds as she leans back against the bar.

"What'll it be miss?"

"Just bring me the bott--" Corona stops, ears snapping up straight as she remembers there shouldn't be anyone to ask that. Slowly turns her head just enough to see the bowler cap and mustached armadillo standing behind the bar calmly wiping out a glass... and the glass and rag but not the guy holding them reflected in the cracked mirror behind the bar.

"AAAAAAWGH!" Corona howls as she tumbles backwards off the stool in surprise, hitting the floor kinda hard. "Dang ghost town's got actual ghosts still!"

The ghostly barkeep is rather unphased by the reaction. "They all say that t'first time."
Kung Jin Corona's cry draws Jin's attention, and he comes running into the bar. Bt he expects that anything that made Corona yelp would probably be aiming for a human-sized target, so he does this rather elaborate combat roll in an angle to the door, so he can come in and get out of the way of anything that's aimed at him. He'll end up inside the bar, on one knee, bow drawn and an arrow pulled back in the string.

Though he pauses when he sees there's nothing off immediate danger except Corona on the floor. He blinks, but holds his fire for now. "...What's going on here?" He looks between Corona and the ghostly bartender, blinks a few times, as if he's not sure what to make of it all.
Rebound Rebound looks at Corona, and past her at the ghostly bartender, "Well then.." She says, as she starts to charge one of her gauntlets, but she's not sure if it would even do anything, "Considering some of the things we've fought I shouldn't be surprised, and yet I am.." She says, as she walks towards the ghost, "Are you...Were you a resident here? What happened?"
Iria Almost immediately, Iria's head snaps upward and she spots the ghost, doing a double-take with widened eyes. "What the hell?!" Iria shouts, drawing her hand gun. Then she realizes it's a ghost and she steps back a little, her mouth hanging open. "I don't believe it... a real ghost?!"
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite picks herself off the floor and dusts off a bit. "Ah ain't scared of no ghosts!... but that sudden appearin' thing they do just startled me. Can't hear em walkin' up or what none."

"Were, am, ain't much, Ah say ain't much difference in my state." The barkeep sets the glass down. "Guess when Ah said Ah put my soul into this place, some cosmic force took it literally." He shrugs a bit. "Folks ran off after somethin' happened in the mines. The railway out here was never finished, Mt. Thundersmack was just too tall an' too ornery. Occasionally some of the lumberjacks from the other side of the range wander in, since they don't gotta worry about causin' a ruckus getting drunk here, but other than that yer the livin' folks Ah've seen in a coondog's age."
Kung Jin Iria's words get a bit of a smirk from Jin. "Look on the bright side. Beats zombies," he points out. He stands up, letting the tension in the bowstring ease until the string disappears. He's still holding the arrow in his hand, though. Just in case.

The ghost speaks, and Jin quiets to listen. "Something happened in the mines?" This he picks up in particular. "Do you know what it was? Did you hear anyone say anything in specific about it?"

It's worthy to note that here, as he speaks to the ghost, his voice lacks the bitter, sarcastic edge it usually has. It's pitched as though to sound as polite as possible, without sounding patronizing. Additionally, Jin makes eye contact with the ghost as he speaks, making sure that at least he seems to be giving the ghost his undivided attention.
Kotone Yamakawa She makes note of the posters but they likely don't apply anymore even though she does make sure to save the image to her own systems. She will look at hte bars and then notice the wood is just about rotted out. She smirks for a moment, and she will move take a look into the cell before she spent the enerty to kick it opem after all there's no need to wreck things if she doesn't have to right?
Alexis Maaka     On cue, the door is kicked right open as Alexis storms into the saloon, gun at the ready. She just about opens fire when she notices the ghost tending bar. "...heard a noise. Thought something was wrong." She says, before lowering the gun and opening her helmet up, stowing the gun on her back as she takes a seat.

"So something in the mines went to shit. Do you know what happened specifically?" She asks the ghost, as if this ISN'T weird at all.
Corona Arclite At all the questions the ghostly bartender just shakes his head a bit and huffs into his moustache. "Nup. Folks like t'talk, y'know. Ah've heard everythin' from faulty shaft work cuz the foremen were pushin' too hard to work too fast, to some kinda monster gettin' into the mines." He picks up another glass and starts wiping. "Folks blamed the old kook up in the cabin... but they blamed him fer everythin' fer some reason."

Corona just twitched a little at the mention of monsters in the mine, as it reminded her of the Landviathan. Hopefully it's not one of those things again.

"Ya livin' folks stickin' 'round for a spell? Would be, Ah say would be nice to see some fresh faces. With flesh on 'em, that is."

The cell is empty. The papers might be worth holding onto, if those notes do mean anything later on.
Alexis Maaka     "Yeah, I saw notes over in the sheriff's office saying something like that." Alexis nods, folding her arms as she sits and thinks. "What, was he dangerous? Or just suspicious of everyone?" She shrugs a shoulder. "We're investigating the town, so to speak. Contract wants us to help make sure the town's safe before restoring it."
Iria Meanwhile, Iria can only sigh in disbelief at the sight of how normal this whole ghost thing seems. She shrugs and continues to look around the bar for any possible clues.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace arrives a little bit behind Maaka, bursting through the door with her massive cannon levelled. After a moment, she raises it, peering at the ghost. "Huh." She says, after ascertaining that yes, she can in fact see through him. "Phil owes me a fiver."
Kung Jin The bartender seems a nice enough fellow, dead or not. So Jin puts that arrow away and dismisses how bow again, and takes a seat at the bar as well. "Sure, I can stick around a while," he notes. "I have to admit, I'm not much of a drinker. What do you recommend?" This works both ways, after all; start where the bartender's comfortable and most knowledgeable -- assumedly, drinks -- and then branch out from there. And try not to get completely shit-faced in the meantime.

He raises a hand to wave to Leyanne as she comes in. "Looks like everything's... well, mostly fine. Well, not as FUBAR as I thought it was gonna be. Or maybe it's '''more''' FUBAR. Who knows?" And then he looks at Maaka. "Notes? I didn't see them, what did they say?"
Corona Arclite "Bein' supicious is kinda part of his job. Or was." Corona replies off-handedly to Maaka. Then jabs a thumb over her shoulder as if to indicate the mountains and mine somewhere behind the town. "M'boss wants to find out what happened to the mine, and reopen it. So fixin' the town up is also purdy high on the list."

"Well, iffen y'all bring folks in, Ah ain't picky 'bout servin' 'em... Though some fresh supplies wouldn't hurt." The ghost shuffles a bit, and pulls a couple of bottles out from under the counter. "All Ah got now is old bottles of cactusjack, an no way to chill nuttin'." Then leans.. well, he's floating lazily at the counter, trying to pose as if leaning on it without phasing through it. "Y'all might be able to convince the lumber camp for help, iffen ya want to rebuild."
Rebound "I'll take the house special." Rebound finally says, "I mean, as long as that's not some kind of ectoplasam or something." She says, with a grin, "Joke, joke I swear. But hey I don't have any reason to kick you out of the bar if this is your place after all." She says, "I mean how would I like it, have somebody come out to my place and kick me in my ass."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace clamps the gun to her pack and saunters over, laughing. SHe nods to Jin. "I hear you. Still, getting a drink from a dead guy's better than fighting off hordes of them like in the previous place. Rack me up one, would you mate?" She grins to the bartender. "Course, might be a bit of a sticky wicket keeping the bar, legally speaking, but it's not like anyone could get you outta here if you didn't want it, right? Personally, a bar with a ghostly bartender? That'll be a hell of a draw for the tourists."

She might look like a lot of the folks in this world, but the mouse towers over... pretty much everyone in the group.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa scoops up the notes and leaves as the cell is empty there's nothing in there. She will catch up wth the rest of the group to hear just what the ghost bartender is talking about and she will decloak as shge enters.

"Howdy and so they were thinking the guy in the cabin was at fault? Maybe I think we should try talking to them."
Kung Jin Jin tilts his head a bit, first one way and then the other. "What you have'll do," he decides, with a polite smile. He'll just have to be careful and not drink too much. Fortunately none of present company has any need to worry about Jin getting too 'chummy' if he gets too drunk. Though Takeda will never let him live it down if he has to carry Jin back to base...

That said, though, he nods. "If there's a power source here, getting a refrigerator, even if it's from another world, shouldn't be too hard. Though if it's from another world, it might take some... alterations to make it work with the power source here. Or someone might be able to right up something magical."

Kotone's mention of the guy in the cabin gets a nod too. "That might be a good place to start," he agrees. "Maybe there's something he can tell us about what we might find in there. Even a maniac's ravings sometimes have a shred of truth behind them."
Alexis Maaka     Alexis nods, "It's a start. And hook me up with some while we're at it, may as well get a pint while we can." She says, watching the bartender sifting through things. "How far away is this bloke's apartment?" She asks the bartender.
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite pulls out her analyzer and flips it open. "Ah can see 'bout gettin' some power grid runnin', and getting supplies. Boss can try to put in a word with the lumberjacks."

"It's in the lower foothills 'round Thundersmack's base," the bartender replies as he sets out the bottles. "The old sheriff kept tabs on -every-one, it's pro'ly written down in his stuff." Which other people already gathered up.

Corona takes one of the bottles. "Welp, iffen Miss C gets her way, in the end we can make somethin' outta this town again."
