Starbound Flotilla     THE SPACEBAR

This game zone appears to be a tremendous, shattered-open planetoid instead of an island in VRMMO Earth. The fractured planetoid drifts far above Earth, something like two thirds of the moon's size at least, and it glitters with a startling array of lights that indicate spots of activity, habitation, or perhaps even space colonization. Segments of the tremendous planetoid seem to offer strange mineral themes, conspicuous organic growth, or even obvious technological artificiality, depending on the nature of the individual fracture.

Today's site is somewhere near one of the more gray, bland fragments of the planetoid. Is this a little on the nose for a digital world? It almost feels like it, but it lacks an air of insincerity that might come from that. A lot of the world is inspired by old science fiction, and this is no exception. It has the look of a setpiece from The Jetsons, all elegant parabolas, stylish points, and Googie architecture, alongside midcentury-modern neon signage. There's literally a big neon rocketship that makes up the sign of this... Taaaavern?

It somehow feels, in some way, like this is the equivalent of an RPG tavern for the game. Maybe it's the diversity of individual craft, all of which are styled after some cliche of late 30s to early 80s science fiction or another. Maybe it's the tone that sets it dramatically in sort of a lesser region of the larger colony near it. Maybe it's the fact that, as one approaches it, their minimap populates with an array of icons indicating things that are probably quest boards, vendors, and logout-safe zones, and that's just how taverns tend to be. Minimaps indicate this as an "FSC Ranger Station", whatever that means.

Well, whatever the reason is, there's a nice little hangar that the Starbound Flotilla pull their little out-of-place shuttle into. The others can easily hitch a ride on it, or on any of the other shuttles the others have. The hangars have some heavy, elaborate, raygun-gothic equipment surrounding each landing pad, with interfaces all over them. It's likely they're meant to summon spaceships for those who own them! The interior is even more stylized, evoking the aesthetic of 1950s diners, bars, and other places of eating.

The only thing out of place is that all of the NPCs in here are wearing big doofy cold-war spacesuits of some kind or another. How ARE they eating? I mean, they've got bar food, diner food, and hell, they've got glasses of all sorts of alcohol, but all of them have totally opaque helmets on their suits. Some are EVA suits, some are just thinner interior suits which let them wear things like a bowtie and waistcoat on that left-side bartender. The one on the right is a big robot with a massive lightbulb head, looking like a man in a goofy, massive tin suit otherwise.

The Miner, that gruff-looking astronaut with the hard-hat, looks like he has a redeemable quest. So does the Ace, the one wearing a long pilot's scard. Nostromo, the old recovered ship AI, could also be interrogated at the massive reel-to-reel COMPUTRONICS STATION, or one might go bother that Commander NPC with the cameoflage-green spacesuit and the medals pinned through his EVA gear.

But we all know what you're really here for. The Ace and the Miner, who according to Sanary and Corona respectively, offer the opportunity to start acquiring starter SPACE SHIPS and SPACE LOADERS!
Septette Arcubielle      It seems that Septette has wrapped up her 'obligations' elsewhere just in time: blue-green blood is still cooking off of her blades by the time she lands on the Flotilla's teleporter pad. She straightens her shawl and flicks off the residual spatters while walking through the hangar, then pulls some blood-red leaves out of her hair and throws them in a trash can before stepping inside. It may only be a virtual establishment, but that's still no reason to litter!

The Captains aren't buying food this time, so she grabs something more modest today, out of a misplaced sense of fiscal responsibility: one of those space 'hamburgers' that George has been pestering her to try, and another mimosa. Yeah, those should go well together. Mmm.

In between bites and sips of the abhorrent combination, she slides along the bar towards the ace pilot. "Hey, you. Medals. We got the factory back up and running. When's our mandatory tutorial level?"
Staren     Staren beams from his own ship to the airlock, and heads on into the SPACE BAR. Once inside, his suit sort of... retracts, mostly vanishing into his other clothes except for a belt with an air tank on it. He glances at the menu and orders a burrito, before heading over to the miner.

"You know, given this place, I'm surprised you don't wear ratty overalls and a beat-up hat over your suit, or have a long beard hanging from your helmet and a giant pickaxe on your back."

If that doesn't start a conversation, Staren prods more directly using keywords: "So what can we do with Loaders?"
Nagato     Finally having some time to herself, the Cait Sith, Tana, finally makes her way up towards the Spacebar, looking for anyone that she might recognize... though the out of place shuttle... granted to Tana /everything/ is out of place. "Mmm, where is everyone..." she mutters, but the view of Staren immediately gets her attention and she heads her way over there. The Cait Sith's obvious looking a bit out of place here with her ALO gear on, but hey, what can you do?

"Hey, Staren." comes the chipper voice from the Cait Sith, "So, finally managed to get a bit of time to myself and help."
Kirito Kirito has finally had enough of this strange space-tavern. He has decided to follow through with the most pressing thing that has come to mind, after putting together everything he's learned about this Brave New World and its NPCs.

    That's right.

While other people ask all the IMPORTANT questions, he sneaks over to one of the patrons, does the best job of policely clearing his threat to gain attention, and whispers conspiratorially near his chosen-at-random patron, "How does everyone eat or drink anything through those helmets?"
Yuuki Konno     Yuuki seems to have taken a 'when in Rome' sort of attitude, having decked herself in a shiny new suit of scrap armor. Well, not actually all that shiny. It's aesthetically a bit dull, though she's considerably brighter than the typical scrap pirate the group's fought in the past. She's added dye (purple and red) and chrome in various patches, highlights, and cosmetic add-ons. The fittings and buckles are done in a fetchingly-rich bronze, quite appropriate to the raygun-gothic feel of the zone. She bears a long-handled rod on her hip where a sword would normally hang; the magnetic coilblade she's worn here before. She's still herself however, not a character of the space zone no matter how she's dressed. She still has cutely-pointed ears and all the other faerie features of her Alfheim Online self... so she might well be mistaken for a Vulcan if such a race exists in this particular space-game. Or an Eldar perhaps, or whatever other form of Space Elf exists in the theme.

For now Yuuki forgoes the quests, waiting instead to pounce her friends as she or they first arrive. Friends being defined as anyone who's actually saved her life or fought a Boss with her. Anyone who doesn't quite fit this definition still gets a warmly bouncy greeting from the Space-Imp so long as she actually recognizes them!
Iria Meanwhile, Iria's arrived wearing a simple set of space armor that's mostly silver and black (like her usual armor. Unfortunately, there's no cape.) She's starting to get the hang of all of this, just like she did with SAO, GGO, and all that other good stuff.

Right now, Iria is just chilling out, looking around and enjoying a quick snack while waiting for the others to arrive. It's not a bad place, truth be told, even if it is a bit weird eating through a helmet.
Kutsuuko Shiratori     It's been a while since Kutsuuko has had the chance to stretch her legs. Here's an opportunity that involves a) a couple of people she wanted to meet, b) that bizarre VRMMO leaking into real life thing she'd heard about, c) starships. It seems like a good deal.

Since you all meet at a tave- there'a quest hub, she doesn't show up armed to the teeth as usual. That is to say, she has a gigantohuge, locked down and hermetically sealed suitcase thing, but the thing itself of it isn't on display. Thumping it down with enough weight to crack a real bar's wooden floor, she seats herself riiiight next to Septette with an elbow nudge and a wink, then tests how much of a 'bar' this place is exactly by immediately ordering something by a Fenrir brand name, and then having to explain that it involves a lot of fruit, a lot of additives, and a lot of synthetic vodka. You get a taste for weird stuff living in a recycle-happy Arcology environment. "Make that two." comes the followup.

Swiveling on her stool (oh come on, it's Jetsons kitsch. They /have/ to be diner-style stools/) she looks to the Yggdroid, and opens with: "So. What are you guys all actually /doing/ here?"
Staren     SUDDENLY IMP HUGS

Staren's surprised, and seems unsure of how to respond. "Um... hi Yuuki." And there's also Nagato! "Today we're finding out about how to get loaders and spaceships for this zone, so we can figure out if there's anything special about them compared to just... bringing our own. Although that's not an option for everyone, anyway..."
Silica     Silica's here! She's not wearing her IFO skin, and so is summarily tackled on entering the area. She topples with Yuuki atop her, and once she gets her breath back, giggles and gives a hug back. "Hi Miss Zekken." she remarks, getting up once she's allowed. "So... since we cleared the Swordfish shipyard, the quest should be complete and we'll get the blueprint in our inventory... It should come with a bunch of starter gear too, Weapons, Shields, Engines, the like." she mentions. "The Loaders I'm not familiar with, they were a pay-to-play mechanic so I never touched them."
Starbound Flotilla     The Ace looks up Septette. There's a QUEST-REDEEMED ping! "Nice seeing you again, ma'am. Happy to hear you've decided to look into this. You're looking for pilot training? I've got a few sites to help with that. But first, you'll need to get your Swordfish picked off the lines."

The gruff-looking Miner makes a dismissive noise at Staren. "Posmotrite mne v glaza i postaraytes' zabyt', chto u vas yest' kreditnaya karta Meysi." He says. His subtitles, thankfully, continue to compensate. "I wear proper miner's gear, a Loader, nothing less, and I'll show you." He gestures to the hangar just as the Ace does; one side of the spacebar actually unfolds up dramatically to open it out to the hangar. This doesn't vent the atmosphere though! Thank goodness. The Flotilla are out there, prepping the little docking stations for the others!
Starbound Flotilla     The random patron seems just about to answer Kirito's burning question when Dimwatt forcefully interjects himself. "HOW DO YOU. MANAGE TO EAT THINGS. WITH YOUR GNASHING HUMAN TEETH. HUH HUMAN. OBSERVE THE SUPERIOR SYNTHETIC METHOD." Dimwatt intercepts a burger on its way out, picks it up, pours it into a slot on its front, GUSHES FLAME from a few slots for a moment as he incinerates it, and then laughs, "HA HA. HA HA. HA HA."

When Kirito looks back at the spaceman he'd asked about the food, he seems to have finished his meal. Somehow.
Nagato     Suddenly, she has an Imp tacklehugging her... and down she goes! She's sprawled out on the ground with a confused look upon her face... "Seems I found the right spot." she comments, looking up from the ground towards Staren and Silica and everyone else present. "AH, I hav... haven't done this quest, so..." there's a cough, "Hopefully one's a two seater? I'm a bit behind, I totally spaced in trying to come and help here, but my own issues keep cropping up more and more."

She moves to pick herself up, pondering, "Ah... so, what is it that you'll need the Cait Sith for?" she grins, "I'll be willing to axe a few things for you guys."
Tomoe So here she was once more Tomoe seemed ot be in fiarly good spirits today, given this was far less grim than most of her multiveral work had been as of late. Odd that, shedidn't really walk much about the job in Creation she'd been working on. It was maybe for the best she didn't.

SO they had to hunt for more quest related items and then she sees a certain imp tackle Tana and she can't help but laugh a bit at it.
Septette Arcubielle      Septette needs to take some very careful maneuvers to get all her sharp bits out of the way first, but by the time Yuuki gets far enough down her list of 'friends' to come to the yggdroid, she's sufficiently braced for a pouncing! She intentionally shies back slightly slower than Konno approaches, to spread out the impact of the hug over a longer window- that is, to make it feel as though she's taking the impact like a person, and not a brick wall! "Whoa there, kiddo," she laughs good-naturedly. "Good to see you out here too!"

Once Yuuki's acquired her next target, Septette turns her attention back to the pilot and the miner. "Huh. So the Swordfish craft need to be picked up from the assembly line, but the Loader tutorial's ready now... I guess I know which one we're doing first." With that and an intense sidelong glare at Dimwatt, she very deliberately scarfs down the rest of her burger in as emphatically human-like a fashion as she can possibly manage, then wipes her hands and face with a real napkin rather than burning the grease off.

     Fuck that trashcan.

With that, she downs her mimosa in a single chug before slamming it down and plodding out to the hangar with the Loaders. "I feel like there's something inherently perverse about my learning to use an industrial mech that I could probably clean and jerk, but here we are. Thanks, CARDINAL."
Kirito This turn of events results in Kirito STARING (probably impolitely, but the robot's unlikely to care) at the spectacularly display he puts on. This would be all kind of rude to Kirito's cultural sensibilities too, but he doesn't fret about it.

This was just too damned weird anyways. "R-... right!" Backing off a bit, he then turns and finds--

... That the one he was going to ask has already finished.

...Now DEEPLY disturbed, Kirito wisely whispers himself excused and makes a TACTICAL WITHDRAWAL from the table's vicinity... and instead, saunts over next to Staren and Yuuki.

    "This place is just weird."
Starbound Flotilla     The Flotilla, out in the main hangar, are poking at the materials. George, specifically, remains the voice of the Flotilla through all this. "Alright everyone," He starts, clapping both hands together. "So, we've hooked a resource line between the Swordfish Shipyard and here. That means we can just about get most of you one loader, or one spacefighter, for now."

On the left docking station, he pokes at the console, summoning up a wireframe of what looks like a ten-foot-tall industrial exoskeleton, meant to house a pilot in the torso and allow them to operate the big arms and legs directly, though as it flickers through possible options, some show outright cockpits. "From what we can tell, these things are great for short ranges. If you're a swordfighty type, or if you're a short-range gunner, this might be for you. You'll be able to rocket around and do your usual hack-and-slash stuff, just, you know, a little easier to fight any vehicles we run into. Plus, plenty of on-foot stuff if you need it"

On the right docking station, he pokes at another console, and summons up a wireframe of something that looks like an atompunk car crossed with a flying saucer. A large, bulbous glass cockpit is set into a dramatically swept-back body, in all sorts of varying configurations of wing-weapons and thrusters and armor thickness. "This one's an all-rounder. We can get the parts for a loooot of starter configurations, from artillery sniper to dogfighting brawler. I'm gonna recommend you match up your configuration with whatever you're used to doing on the ground. I think there's supposed to be a third thing for longer-range stuff, probably heavier shuttles or capital ships, but we're not really there yet."

"Gonna need us to run support for you guys 'cause these things need a /ton/ of fuel, so unless you're gonna go out farming that stuff yourself, you'll only get 'em when we're around, but that's good enough for most of us." Then he claps his hands together and rubs them. "So, who wants to go first?"
Staren     No particularly funny responses from CARDINAL. Oh well. Staren takes a bite of his burrito and chews as the door to the hangar opens. Mmm, burrito.

Starbound provide the explanation, Staren strokes his chin with his free hand. On the one hand... mech. On the other hand... He's usually long-range. On the third hand, the problem with melee is getting grappled by people stronger than he is, and using a mech's strength that's less of an issue. He considers for several seconds...

"Is there a way to see how the mech /and/ the saucer control before we put one together?"

Then he's struck by a thought, and looks over at Kirito, then back at the Flotilla. "Can Loaders dual-wield, and is there a significant advantage to doing so?"
Silica     Silica moves over to the hangar. "There are... in the game the biggest ship a Player could run was a Cruiser, something a bit smaller than the crashed FSC ship we found you on. That was something for an entire Guild to work on. They acted as a combination of Guild Hall and Capital Ship, but we can probably find a Frigate for the group of us to run on." she mentions, then walks over towards the Swordfish platform. "I'll stick with what I know."

Silica taps through the menues like second nature, outfitting a medium hull with a strong engine and a weak-but-rapid-fire weapon and a weak shield system, bringing the craft to exactly 2 points below its maximum power and mass limits.
Corona Arclite While George is explaining and demonstrating, Corona is standing in the back grinning to herself. She knew the 'loader' thing was going to be important when she first saw those so-named loot drops, and now they were bringing it to fruitition. Starter kits, sure, but that's still one step up from what they had when they started these operations -- nothing local.

Idly the vixen stuffs the end of whatever she was eating in her mouth, and washes it down with a swig from her flask. Eyes the holographic display. Looks a bit less armored than the Foxtrotter, but it would make sense. These things need to work in entirely different environments than the steampunk ride armor she'd been hodgepodging together. Still, she's more familiar with the ground than she is with flying things. Her train-spaceship doesn't count, it pretty much pilots itself with the AI.

"Welp." Corona takes another gulp, then tucks the flask away in a pocket of her vest. "What kinda 'short-range gunner' are we talkin' 'bout here Georgie boy?" If she can do her Wild West Gunkata up to power loader scale, all the better.
Nagato     And here is where Tana goes from bouncing kitty to... confused. The same confusion on Tana's face that she had when she was introduced to ALO for the first time too. She looks between the Loader and the Spacecraft and... she looks supremely lost.. "Umm." she looks between the two again and her tail lashes out in a bit of anger.

"Umm... I have /no/ clue what to go for."
Iria A loader or a spacefighter? That sounds good to Iria. Although she's personally going the spacefighter route herself.

After glancing between the two, just to size them up, Iria looks to Flotilla and says, "I'll take a starfighter, definitely. Mechs aren't really my thing." She smirks a little.
Yuuki Konno     Yuuki gives some deep meaningful thought to her options. Well no, not really. She considers a Loader for long enough when it's mentioned as a short-ranged swordsman-style thing, but only until the dogfighter is described! Then her imagination's cleanly hooked.

"I want a Swordfish!" Yuuki shouts excitedly, visions of dogfighting and soaring free dominating her rather-flighty mind. She loves movement above all else after all. She's a swordgirl in ALO, but that's mostly because swords let her dance about at will. The sword isn't so much her ideal weapon as it is a means to best use her speed and agility. She's not really a tank, using muscle and armor to dominate the field. She can do some tanky stuff and is fairly tough, but only as long as such activities don't actually restrict her.

She gravitates to Silica, peering over the Cait Sith's shoulder. This involves repeated bouncing. "Make me one too?" she asks. "Fast. Really really fast, even if it's skimpy on the armor. And it's okay if I have to fly in close to hit stuff. Like, I guess, guns that don't have to be very accurate, but hit really hard?" she suggests, overbrimming with enthusiasm.
Kutsuuko Shiratori     Kutsuuko leans forward in her seat, putting an elbow on the bar counter, with a low, drawn out "Damn." at seeing the wall fold out. Listening to the radio explanation is clear enough. Refreshing, even. Kill aliens, get rewards, save world. Easy. The explanation of all this vehicle-oriented nonsense is a little more dense.

Really though, she takes one look at the loader mech, takes one look at the enormous, glossy scarlet '''suitcase''' at her feet, and then says "I don't think that's going to be much of a decision." Taking her drink with her, she slowly steps on over, looking around at the pieces the Flotilla is getting ready for assembly. "So are you building these from scratch? Is this an 'I have videogame money' thing or is this all your stuff? And how long is this going to take?"
Septette Arcubielle      Tapping at a design screen with her bladelike fingers, Septette slowly develops a terrible grin. The ship that takes shape on her screen is a hollow triangular prism made of edges, with no visible weaponry and a truly oversized engine, plus an impressive array of secondary thrusters for maneuverability. This is the worst idea. This is the best idea.

"Dibs on breaching and boarding," she says to the rest of the party, that half-manic light still shining in her lavender eyes. "I think I'm going to like this game."
Tomoe So here they are in the main hanger, Tomoe looks about for a moment seeing that nothing is too badly off here there's no mobs to worry about and she's watching as the wire frames get brought up. Seeing the Atompunk styling makes her thing of Johnny Trail-branch for a moment but she's soon thinking about fighter types.

"Then I know what I'm going to need."

Something good and tanking and she gets how they match them on the ground.

"Still the retro designs are a bit much, I'm half expecting gogo boots and bikini top drops from the mobs here now."

She goes about loading out her fighter with more armour, shields and ECM to make it as tanky as she's able to make.

She takes note of Kutsuuko's arrival and gives her a wave as she looks up from her work on her ship. She's yet to name it though as she works to finish it up, she'll need to work on a loader later though.
Starbound Flotilla     "Well, you can go last, Starbies. And yeah, Loaders seem fine with dual-wielding. Me, I say you oughta go with two welders instead of operator claws. Burning hands!!" George waves his arms sarcastically at Staren. "Just go last if you're worried, man."

Silica knows what she's doing. She's offered to name her Swordfish, which now has a dramatic set of heavy thrusters at the back, a stylish set of thin rotating lasers, and a hull with a soft sort of bulk, shimmering gently. With a shining rush of dramatic voxels forming, she has summoned her SWORDFISH FIGHTER! And just as hoped, it's a multi-seater, in case others need it.

"Well, that'll kinda be up to you. I figure you're gonna work out the guns for this, Corona. Pop 'em into the slots and it should work." George says, calling up a few designs on the loader interface that aren't already loading weapons on their hands.

"Hey, you're a boat, right? Do you breathe?" Wow, okay, cool intro there, George. "Couple of people here are looking for a good capital ship, and you'd fit the bill if I could get you floating out there long enough to slap some hull fittings and thrusters on you. You don't need to poke at this spacefighter stuff if you don't wanna."

Iria's going for a spacefighter. One coming up! "You feeling fast and quick, you like aiming, you okay with running tanking, or are you a heavy-hitter artillery type, miss? Oh hey, remind me later, we gotta talk about that data you found."

"Alright alright! We've got three for spacefighters! Okay, we'll get you set up with something really zippy. Lots of engines, light on hull, mid-range punch, I think we can get that for you. Something you can take down a big ship with!" He punches it out, and it comes down to something very, very rocket-like, with a massive blossoming array of central thrusters at the back, leading to an almost cylindrical body with a sharp nosecone, and a pair of heavy rocket weapons attached on three points around the comically atompunk rocketship design. "Hop in and run the tutorial!"

Septette makes a boarding craft. "Oh hell, that's a new way of doing this. You know, all the shit here's destructible. You can probably punch holes through major defenses with that. Sequence breakin'! Let's make that happen.

"And five fighters! Very nice! ECM can draw the aggro and help keep it from killing you, so make sure that's big and beefy. It's the local taunt, from the look of it. Watch the shields, they still jostle you pretty hard. Hop on in, you might not go quick but you'll be a great platform for the others to run with." The heavy craft looks more like a little flying saucer now, wide and rounded and full of thick armor and shielding.
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite barks a laugh. Almost literally. She is a canine after all. "Y'all know me too well." And her tendancy to make modifications to things. Actually....

She pulls out the old journal from its belt pouch and starts flipping through it. Maybe she could modify some of the weapons her father and Rusty designed during their days in the militia.
Nagato     "I guess it's no secret then, huh?" Tana questions towards George, "Never thought about breathing in space, not sure if I could... or need to." Tana gives another shrug before moving to log out, leaving the larger woman there. She coughs slightly, "I would need a loading bay that can fit a battleship... and I can allow you to make the resiquite modifications as need." a pause, "Space Battleship Nagato. Guess this will help getting into the Star Ship Shoujou role." a shrug is given before she heads off, hopefully with George, to a hangar.

"Put up privacy screens, if you can..."
Starbound Flotilla     "Well, the others got plenty of drops. We can loan you some of the Loader parts we have 'cause we're on a surplus right now, but you for real better pay it back later, right? This is an actual official Debt thing if you head on here." George says, then winks. Is he actually saying real debt? Is he not? How does this work? He taps the console a couple times. "But yeah, come on over and get something set up. What's your style? Besides weird chaosfuture fashion, I mean, fighting style."
Starbound Flotilla     This locale's DOCKED entries begin populating! A couple new slots are in place, until their new owners take them for a spin!

Kirito "Guess I'll take one of the loaders! Ranged combat and I don't get along too well." Kirito concludes after measuring all his options and showing the same indecisive exasperation that he had during the Death Gun investigation.

At least this time he's not easily mistaken for a girl?

So a Loader it is, huh?
Septette Arcubielle      Pointedly ignoring her name on the stats card, Septette examines the statistics for a moment. "Speed's good. Maneuverability's good. And it'll need a nonzero amount of armor... around the engine, at a minimum. I can probably take a couple of hits to the cockpit personally, but all the health in the world isn't much good if my ship won't move. Looks pretty good for a first build, I think." Then, to George: "Hey, I thought that was assumed. Everything's destructible when you guys get involved."

After a moment longer, she glances back at the god eater, an expression of playful mirth crossing her features. "So what're you planning on, Kutsuuko? You sure your friend in there won't get jealous if you use another weapon? Or are you just gonna footslog it?"
Iria Iria smirks. "Oh yeah, I just love fast rides and striking quickly!" She runs a hand through her hair. "It's the name of my game after all!" She looks intently at Flotilla. "So what have you got then?"
Staren     Staren watches others assemble machines. "You know, it occurs to me: This is a videogame. I don't /have/ to make my robot fight the same way I do in real life. We have a /lot/ of ranged fighters. Tomoe might need some help tanking."
Corona Arclite Corona Arclite must of found something she liked, because she snaps the book shut after making a few notes to herself, and ambles over to one of the Loader.. bays? Stalls? Uh... Scratchs the side of her head, dislodging her hat slightly. "Someone that knows the controls a little better, give me a hand here?"
Yuuki Konno     Yuuki peers at George's design for a spaceship for her, eyeing the configuration options with some interest. She may sometimes seem to be a brainless swordgirl but Yuuki's no fool. She's also been gaming for years, and is not at all phased by design interfaces. She catches on quickly enough, then crowds in to adjust the settings to her own specifications. Not that she pushes anyone actually out of the way, she just leans close in and doesn't care if George remains crowded close or not.

She adjusts things, first cranking up the maneuverability superhigh, and looking in dismay as it costs her all sorts of other things. Speed and attack, primarily, since that's just about all her fighter has. Reluctantly she dials the maneuverability back a bit, making sure to keep the speed above average. The 'shoot' can stay low. She'll mount some kind of close-range weapon when she can; something high-damage that relies on her own ability to maneuver and get close rather than relying on any kind of tracking or shot-speed bonus.

Finally, to finish it off, Yuuki adds a name. Rapier. Okay not the most original of names, but she likes it! Then she starts fiddling with the color scheme. Two guesses what the primary color's going to be...
Staren     Staren considers. "The two weapons limit is a pain, though. Might need a design where I can easily open the cockpit to shoot out of it before enemies close. Are there any multifunction weapons like a sword that shoots laser beams or a shield with a spike at the tip? Or maybe what's needed is a weapon that can hit a whole group of foes in melee... then again, two swords is classic... hmm... Need it to be fast enough to keep up with the others too..."
Starbound Flotilla     "Alright, we can get you somewhere for a fitting. You won't be able to use most of those mods without the fuel we have, but they should work. I know like... Half of Biteblade's ship used to be an actual ocean boat, you know. Real weirdo. Hey, speaking of which, would you rather Biteblade do the stuff? Great expert for stuff like this. She's a huggy kind, though, fair warning."

Biteblade's eyes gleam at Tana and she looks like she's about to pounce on the catgirl at any moment. The rest of the Flotilla stand ready to get Nagato quickly modded though!
Kutsuuko Shiratori     "Drops?" Kutsuuko inquires, blinking a couple of times before remembering. "Oh! Right! As in, you kill things and useful gear falls out of them, right?" Never mind that she practically lives that grind treadmill, just much less predictable or safe. "Fine, fine. I'll surely make it up to you for all your hard work." She may sound a little facetious.

"As for combat style . . ." she continues, dropping her giant suitcase, the size of a car engine, and stomping on some kind of pneumatic release that causes it to fold open like a four-sided flower, dramatically hissing steam. The blade form of Scarlet Symphony folds out like a switchblade, standing several feet taller than herself, and still glowing with radiant heat and light even in its inactive state. "This! Don't even bother loading it down with weapons. My girl is all I need. I want it to go as fast as you can get it while still being able to juke. I need as much arm articulation as possible too. Armour is less of a problem with my God Arc's shield mode, so that will round itself out. I'm aiming for mobile short to mid range skirmishing and manual precision."
Starbound Flotilla     "Loader loader, here we go. That's a good way to do this. What's your priorities, Kirito? Speed? Strength? I mean, obviously we're gonna put two melee weapons on it, but do you want speed, or how do you wanna focus this?" George says, snapping his fingers and pointing to Kirito. "No, no, you're the one, I've got it for sure. We can have you be the one dual-wielding the welders. Big ol' superheated arcs of horrible heat murder, it'll be perfect. What do you think?"

There probably ARE loader swords, and George just wants to make this silliness work out in favor of something a little more flavorful. The weirdo.
Starbound Flotilla     "Alright, we'll get you a quick ride with some fast weapons. Lotta engines and a lot of lasers, from the sound of it." George says, clicking a few buttons on the interface. "One laser oughta cool quick, we'll get you plenty of engines, aaaand..." The heavy vehicle forms, wireframed in the air before her, with a sharp=nosed multi-thruster configuration. "What do you wanna name it?"
Staren     "You know, maybe that could be, like, my gimmick." Staren continues. "A loader that allows me to actually /use/ all of the guns I carry, while protecting me from hits. Do you think you'll need tanking help, Tomoe?"
Nagato     The Catgirl blinks, looking at Biteblade... "If Biteblade's more experienced with naval warfare..." she backs up slightly, and gives a bit of a nod, "we'll go with that." she nods, turning back into Nagato, at least the human version of her. It'd be really inconvinent to do that here!
Starbound Flotilla     "What sort of focus are you lookin' for, Corona? Just swap in the parts here under the tabs, we're figuring out how to mod 'em as we go. Just point big numbers in the fields you want at the slots you're looking for, oughta handle it all." He's familiar enough with these silly and anachronistic interfaces to make them work for Corona if she doesn't catch on quick, but she probably will!
Starbound Flotilla     Yuuki finishes her craft!

Tomoe Tomoe looks at the fighter as it seems to be set up. she grins a bit at the overall set up and nods a little bit to Staren a she works for a moment.

"I do so on foot. You know, I never say no to off tanks. Who knows how many things will get thrown at us."

She notes as she finishes up on her fighter craft.

"You got it, yes our world's being .. infested by what used to be digital games. Life's become one big death game since."

She whistles at Kutsuuko's weapon, she's seen it before sure but every time she does? It's a hell of a sight to behold.

"Once I'm done here, I need to get a loader built too don't I? Hey Kirito you going for the whole V fin high agility sort?"

With that she finihes up her fightercraft keeping all the other stats fairly basic but functional.
Kirito "Hooooooh?!" Kirito's tone is a bit mixed between intrigued and disturbed. DUAL WELDERS. What the heck? How does that even work? He blinks a few times at the ideas that flash through his head.

"Is that the closest thing to a sword there is to work with? Sounds good if so! Used an energy blade once before. It was cool... bit too light for my taste though. I like power, then speed. Nice, heavy impacts."

He slowly double-takes after a few moments of thought. "... Wait. We have mecha and they DON'T have swords or laser swords for them? Who designed this...?"
Iria Thinking for a moment, Iria tries to think of a good name for her craft. After a moment, Iria looks down at her waist, remembering where her sword should be, then looks up again. "I know, I'll call mine Hyper Blade. How's that sound?" She smirks.
Septette Arcubielle      "Likely a good call," Septette opines while eyeing Kutsuuko's weapon with evident curiosity. "I really don't think this game was made with people who are attached to specific weapons in mind." At the word 'attached', a four-foot-long curved blade unfolds from her forearm, hinged near the wrist, and then snaps back as if she were idly playing with a switchblade.

"So if we're going to reap its progression system's benefits in full, we're going to have to get creative about it, I think." She nods towards the suicide pod of a spacecraft she's just finished designing. It sure is, uh... creative.
Staren     "What are 'Field' and 'Scans', anyway? Doesn't look like anyone's using them much. Are we expected to need a lot of Cargo space?" Staren comments, as the loadouts come together.
Corona Arclite That's mostly what Corona needed, a demonstration. She's a quick learner. But sometimes a visual show helps with packing all the information away. Then starts fiddling. Why are these customization deals always almost as much fun as the actual 'game' is? WHo knows. As one would expect, she goes for guns. Short range? That's fine, she usually uses stuff like pistols and shotguns anyways. Guns and accuracy, relying more on maneuvering and shields for protection than weighing it down in armor. Got to keep to that gunslinger methodology she's best at, after all. It's not just how good the guns are, it's how good your aim is with them.
Starbound Flotilla     "Well, we can mount more arms, but you'll have to go /find/ more arms, you know. If you wanna have a dozen-armed Loader, that's your deal, not mine." George says, waving vaguely at Staren. "We have maybe two or three spare arms, so you can have those if you want, but it's gonna shoot some of the other stats way down if it's all weapons, from the look of it. Maybe you could handle the utility stuff there?"
Staren     Staren rubs his chin. "I was more thinking of gaming the system by setting things up somehow so that I can easily fire out of it. Or has poking at the system shown that probably won't work? As for utility things... any idea what those other stats /do/?"
Starbound Flotilla     George ponders Kutsuuko's massive blade. "That's not just mechanically confusing, that's confusing on a design-philosophy level." He says, pointing at it, the other hand trying to find a point of maximum pondrance on his chin. "You know, if I had to pick something, I'd say something a lil' like this.

What comes next is the creation of a Loader with a single massive right arm, a human-sized left robotic arm, and a combination of heavy legs and heavy thrusters designed for high speed. "Precision, low-armor, high-strength, high-speed, the works. What are you thinkin' here, newbie?"
Kutsuuko Shiratori     "I could explain it, but it'd get even more confusing." Kutsuuko admits, then getting into the absent habit of stroking her blade like a cat. "Something something bio-molecular physics something Bias Factor something It Just Works. I've used her long enough to know the design is sound. I picked most of it out myself."

Then, she leans in to peer at the suggested design. "It's kind of cool, but I have to ask the really obvious question. What's with the lopsided arms?"
Starbound Flotilla     "Floran isss more experience in modification! Alssso, being very careful for not hurt! Alssso-alssso! In hug for cute cat--! Awwwh!" She Seems almost disappointed when she goes back to Nagato. "Bah! Isss cute anyway. You, come with Floran. Will modify!" She immediately goes for a hug and then attempts to drag Nagato off towards one of the transport ships.

Once they're further out -- somewhere with a dock that isn't used -- Biteblade will get to work. The modifications are meant to be essentially indefinite, but they're unlikely to function without Starbound Flotilla infrastructure unless Nagato can secure a source of spacefuel. The huge rocket-thrusters that Biteblade shifts into place near the stern of the craft, and the maneuvering thrusters at all five other sides, give her a very familiar, naval style of maneuvering, something that she could easily use. With some airlocks and some basic life support systems installed in the interior, it'll be a spotty job, but it can keep her airtight!
Starbound Flotilla     "We don't have enough spare parts for everyone to get two, but now, all you gotta do is name it! It oughta be fine after that. What're you wanting to call her?" George says to Tomoe, tapping that big flying saucer. It sounds sturdy as all heck, despite the big obvious glass section.
Starbound Flotilla     "Sigh. SIGH. You're draggin' me down so hard I'm saying onomatopoeias of annoyance here, Kirito! Don't be a wet blanket. Of course there's swords! We've got, it looks like, 'Industrial Slicers' and 'Hullbreach Blades', whatever those are, plus a couple laser swords. But think about it! C'mon! Big ol' welders!" George says, and then sort of makes hand-wringing motions in front of Kirito's face while making "psssshhhhhhh" welding noises with his mouth.
Nagato     When Nagato's dragged off, she gives Biteblade a hug as Nagato as well. But once she's out of sight, she poofs to Tana for a moment, hugs Biteblade, logs out and then goes to ship form so Biteblade can do her work. She doesn't say much, Nagato somewhere within the hull of the large battleship. "No one aside from Akashi has ever done work on my hull before. Relish this moment all you need, Biteblade." she comments, the guns upon the battleship lower and rest...
Starbound Flotilla     Iria completes her craft!

Starbound Flotilla     George makes shrugging motions at Staren. "I think field's like, shield? But, fielder. Maybe you can do science with it. Man, I don't know. We're sort of improvising here. Don't think too hard about it, just pick parts that look good to you. Scan's probably for accuracy and finding stuff, like that Neurovore thing."
Kirito "...." The look Kirito's now giving George goes a bit beyond 'wet blanket' and straight into 'ARE YOU SERIOUS?', mouth slightly ajar. "... are you kidding me, we'll be fighting for our lives out there! Let's have a look at these Industrial Slicers and Hullbreach Blades!"
Starbound Flotilla     George waves one arm at Kutsuuko in a way that seems almost demonstrative. "If one side's bigger, then it's stronger, that's how this stuff works!" He declares, as if delivering some kind of profound wisdom. "Plus, you're just using the one weapon, right? Just pump tons of the power into the one arm, get it? Well, you know. And the spine. The shoulders. Bits of the thrusters or legs required to brace..." He waves his hands dismissingly. "It's not important! The important part is it'll definitely hit shit really hard with your giant sword. So, wanna finish her off and give her a name?"
Tomoe Tomoe says "Heh I got it for the name."

The first ship name to mind given her nationality it might not be a shock to some.

"How about Enterprise?"
Staren     Staren sighs. "I hate it when games expect you to make choices like this without telling you what they mean." He looks up and says loudly, "You can do better, CARDINAL!" Then back to the assembled mechs. "Well... I was thinking of going tank, but... to be able to do scanning things, probably better to be farther away. I think I have a strength in guns, so... Average speed, and turns, low cargo... good scan. Now, seriously, do you think there might be a design I can exploit to fire additional personal weapons from the cockpit? Maybe that means needing to rely on Field for defense rather than armor, or maybe there's a cockpit block with the right shape... Might mean needing an open cockpit of some sort, but I could just wear a suit and bring my own air supply..."
Kutsuuko Shiratori     Kutsuuko squints pretty hard at George. Something she can't quite put her finger on which is literally everything about him makes her feel like she shouldn't really trust him all that much, but ultimately, she's got nothing else to go on. "Oookay." she concludes, skeptically, but willing to try it out. Going fast and being huge and stompy are the priorities after all. "I'll need to do just a little bit of aftermarket though, or else Scarlet Symphony here will gobble its hands up."

The name she selects in the end: Grandioso. It's her running theme.

A little late, she responds to Septette. "Who cares what it had in mind? I want to win. If you don't think this baby can't bust open a giant robot then you're in for an entertaining surprise."
Starbound Flotilla     "Floran getsss exclusssive chance! Woah! Very good! Floran will be extra careful! " Biteblade says, eagerly. She... She just sort of presses vaguely against the hull. In what is probably meant to be a hug. Well, in any case, instead of running some kind of electrical control system, Biteblade seems to have hooked these thrusters up via Erchius mental control! "Boat friend! Pleassse try to think of sssea! Think of going forward! Thrussster will do! Fly back to Ssspacebar!" She jets her way back into her own transport and begins heading back to the Spacebar!
Yuuki Konno     After having configured her ship, Yuuki begins to vibrate with enthusiasm. Well, perhaps not quite literally. She's just jittering around with excitement, not standing still, though probably not actually shivering or shaking.

"When do I get to fly!?!" the space-Imp blurts out abruptly, her patience apparently shot.
Starbound Flotilla     "Well yeah, of course you're fighting for your lives out there! That's why you wanna be able to weld dudes in half with your incredibly cool Thermal Lance set! No? Dammit. Fine, I'll take the thermal lances though." George says, faux-pouting at Kirito. "And you don't get to have them later." He brings the swords up! These are definitely inspired by 50s science fiction, because one's a big pilebunker-looking weapon with a single edge and a heavy piledriving core. The other is a sort of double-ended plasma emitter, with plenty of weight, useful for slicing but far less for stabbing. "What're you looking for most?"
Starbound Flotilla     Tomoe has finished the ENTERPRISE!

Kirito "Oooooooohhh. I like those plasma weapons. Let's go with these... and a black colorscheme. This tech's so old school aesthetic... let's go with Black Relic." He's finally grinning a little. Finally.

"You have fun with those things!" He adds in a 'good luck, bro' tone normally reserved for Klein.
Starbound Flotilla     A short-range, high-thruster booster mobile gunman at short range? Yep, she can whip that up, though it looks a little lanky. It's kind of stylish, with the heavy thrusters, the one shotgun, and the other pistol, though. A little more maneuvering than speed, to enhance her gunslinging, and that should be all she needs! All Corona has left to do now is name it!
Starbound Flotilla     "Oh, yeah, one of the ones I showed you earlier. You're the only guy who's wanted one." George flicks through until he finds a sort of open-top model, which involves being seated halfway into an actual cockpit, which has a rather face-like shape. "This one's actually nooooot native? It's our design. We're still figuring this one out. But, uh, hey! Bugtesting! You can shoot out the top of it and show us what it's like. What kinda name you wanna give this guy?"
Staren     Staren oohs! Yeah, he's up for trying that. What name? He holds up a finger and opens his mouth...

    ...

    ...

"...I dunno. Uhhhhh... Let's see... my ship is the stranger than fiction..." he mutters, "Needs to be something clever..."
Starbound Flotilla     Kutsuuko has finished her loader!

"Haha, woah there Flash Gordon, you need to register a username too, apparently. Got one in mind there?" George says, tapping at the dock's big CRT display. "Open up your menu with the select button and use your D-pad to navigate and enter a name." What??? Whatever he just said, he demonstrates by doing a left-swipe motion with his hand, and poking at the menu that pops up.
Nagato     Nagato feels the attempted hug on her hull and there's a /slight/ but noticable wiggle to 'hug' back, then something catches her attention. "Biteblade, I have a gift on the bridge. You're welcome to it. It's a Captain's Outfit... you can take the helm if you want." She thinks a moment and suddenly she starts moving forward out of the dock and on the way to the Spacebar! Space Battleship Nagato is /now/ a thing here!
Corona Arclite That, at least, is the easy part. Corona is great with names!.. Or so she thinks, at least. It usually works out well. That just takes some typing in, is all.

STAMPEDE

Gotta keep the SPACE WESTERN theme going, after all. It works! It's just gonna be a stampede of gunfire instead of angry bulls.

And afterwards they'd wish it had been the cows instead.
Starbound Flotilla     George gestures to the ship. "It's yours, kid. Take off." He says, to Yuuki. "Go run that tutorial. Probably means flying through rings. Booooring. Tell me how quick it goes for ya." He kicks the dock locks and dislodges the spacecraft!
Starbound Flotilla     And with that, the heavy power-focused and speed-specced loader is completed, wielding a pair of dramatic plasma swords. The heavy thrusters should close distances hard, and there's a fair chunk of armor, but this is only all possible because there's absolutely no power to a real ranged weapon! Damn! It'll shut down so many subsystems the moment he tries to use anything ranged. But hey, it works for now, so Kirito can name it!
Starbound Flotilla     "Well, your ship's 'Stranger than Fiction', right? Why don't you make it that kinda superlative? Make it a running theme." George says, shrugging at Staren and gesturing vaguely at his mecha's design. "Or just try to break the system. I'mma name mine '#EVENT_TEXT_SCUTTLED', see if it kills anyone who scans it."
Corona Arclite "Naming conventions are important!" Corona briefly shouts in Staren and George's direction.
Starbound Flotilla     "!!!!!!!"

Biteblade is immediately, gratefully, IMMEDIATELY leaping out of the transport and onto Nagato's bridge through one of the airlocks. "New hat!! Floran hasss new hat from friend, yessssss!!!" She seems to cheer very much about this! Nagato has earned an initial friendship, nice!
Staren     Staren chuckles at George's proposed name. "I was thinking maybe 'Field of View' because it uses fields, it 'views' things with its scans, and field of view is one thing people can hack to cheat and I'm totally planning to cheat by using personal weapons with it. ...I suppose something like 'Frank Exchange of Views' might be catchy too, or... Or maybe another phrase playing on the meaning for truth, but eh, I think I'd rather save that for some more personal creation."
Starbound Flotilla     Corona has finished her loader too!

Kirito And Kirito has already chosen his name. Kirito's wishes of getting a black colorscheme are hopefully followed (because if not, that's first on his customization priority list). For now though, he enters 'Black Relic' into the name box...
Starbound Flotilla     The Flotilla has a stupidly large amount of paint on-hand. Why do they have SO MUCH, actually? That's kind of a very relevant question. But it's one that won't be answered, only one that will answer Kirito's problem. He gets his black Loader!

"Boy, Rito, that loadout of yours really wonked up your scan. I hope you know what you're doing." George says, leaning over and peering at the interface.
