Nagato     It's late afternoon, the invites were sent out earlier and the Galley of Hikari Seaport has been repurposed into a learning room for now, though it's also complete with a full lunch and dinner compliment. Wouldn't do to leave her students hungry today. On the center of the table is a device that's incredibly new to the Hikari Seaport: An old school slide projector. Dated, maybe but it works. There's a white dropcloth for the projector to shine on to, and as people enter, Nagato preps the thing, adding slide after slide of old film to it.

Ashigara's standing to the side, a pointing stick in hand and some chalk, for what, who knows, but she's there to backup the Admiral if it's needed... and to provide homework. Because what self respecting wolf doesn't let her prey go without some work to do!
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna has her suspicions about exactly what that chalk will be used for, considering that there's no actual blackboard in evidence that Ashigara (or anyone else) would likely need chalk to write on it with. She's sitting towards the front of the 'classroom' where she has a good view of the dropcloth-screen; she's also got a large tablet computer, like an electronic notebook, and has stylus in hand for possibly copious amounts of note-taking.

Sure, she's the flagship of the Special Division Project, and she's been working with Nagato and the other Fleet Daughters about as long as anyone else in the Multiverse, but Yuna still figures she may have things to learn about the Abyssals.

.... That, plus Elner absolutely insisted that Yuna should be here, whether to learn or to help teach, and the robo-faerie is hovering right next to Yuna's seat.
Leyanne The mouse's arrival is heralded by the loud roar of Leeroy's three gas-turbines as she brings the newly-repaired PT boat in after a sea test. Satisfied, Tiny pauses on the way to the classroom to chat with one of the resupply officers about the ammunition and torpedoes she needs.

When she arrives at the classroom, the giant mouse sighs, quietly, and then ducks, quite far, to fit through the door. Nobody ever makes doors in Tiny-size. And that's not to mention the chairs! She remains standing at the back of the room. She doesn't have a tablet or notepad to take notes... but she DOES plug a small data-recorder into her datajack port.

"Afternoon all!" She says, cheerfully, her white fur smeared in places with fresh oil.
Staren     Staren arrives! He may not be a Paladin, but he's fought the Abyssals a couple of times and his interests align with the Paladins in protecting people from them. The catman also takes a seat near the front with Yuna. He doesn't have anything to take notes on, because he has a headcomputer.

He nods to those he knows, "Oh hey, long time no see, Leyanne, how've you been?" and waits patiently...

Don't tell them they could have
done this better with a computer
don't tell them they could have
done this better with a computer

He gives the screen a blank stare, trying not to show the inward struggle.
Reina Kinney Even though she wasn't directly involved in the current situation, Reina had heard about what was going on and keeping on the up-and-up about it. She wanted to get involved, but was wary at first since she had never dealt with anything like this before. Initially her plan was to gain more intelligence on what was going on, but then the invitation to learn more about this first-hand from Nagato herself was received, and Reina decided there was no time like the present.

Reina arrives quickly and immediately finds a place to take a seat before taking out her datapad to prepare to take notes on everything. She looks and nods to those she recognizes, before waiting with a bit of patience for everything to get underway.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa is dressed casuall not in any sort of combat gear the full meals being offered food was wonderful even if she didn't need to /eat/ that much. She still enjoyed it. She's got small compyter of some sort in hand. she's can record things sure, but she's got the odd habit for her world, of still liking to use external hardware fo things. She'll make sure she's got a good spot and looks up at the screen.
Chevalier     It doesn't seem like Chevalier's the typical sort of student for a classroom. This is an open meeting, and while the attendees are all presumably friends of the Fleet they're not all friends of Chevalier himself. He's decked out in his full gold-and-silver armor as if this were a battlefield, not a classroom. Not so much because he expects a fight as because he's lived decades as a cape. You don't give away your identity to a room full of rogues, assuming there aren't outright villains present.

Chevalier's a big man though not as big as Tiny. Even with his bulky armor, he doesn't take up quite the same space. He probably makes the galley chairs look rather small though, and gleaming gold and silver doesn't really fit the classroom image. He takes a seat off to one side, choosing to forego the back of the room while still staying somewhat out of the way of those needing to see.
Sanary Rondel Off in back of the classroom in that section of seats usually reserved for delinquents and brash rivals is... Someone that probably doesn't look like she belongs there. Sure, she looks like a student with the uniform and everything, but she's got an eyepatch on. And an axe on her belt. Also, she's incredibly tense as if she's trying to look nonchalant off at one corner of the room, but knows she's failing miserably at it.

Sanary's really trying not to cause a scene, at least. She's just as interested in the whole situation with the Re-Class as anyone else, after all, and she even brought a notebook to take notes!
Alexis Maaka     Not much can get Maaka to wear her flit out without a sortie, this is one of them. Arriving in uniform, the cyborg's sitting at attention, nodding to Leyanne and others as they arrive. "Afternoon," she greets. Food is appreciated, and she takes a sip of tea as she watches Nagato prep the projector.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace smiles "Hey Staren. Pretty good all in. You OK? Looks like you got something on your mind. Oh hey Alexis"Shehe nods to the others as they enter, slowly sauntering over to the food tables to graze while she listens.

She's probably narrower than Chevalier. But she probably weighs the same, or similar, to him in huis armour.
Nagato     Ashigara's the first one to speak, "Hello my students, I do hope you will be listening because I'll be giving you a test on all of these, due by the end of the week. Failure... is not an option~!" she says this with the most sincere, worrying smile ever, along with bending her pointing stick to seem a bit... 'hungry'. Nagato, however, sighs slightly, "Ashigara, these aren't the Torpedo Squadron... but I agree, they should pay attention. It could mean sinking or not out there."

Nagato turns to the 'class' and nods, Ashigara moves to turn off the lights and the slide projector turns on, displaying a picture like one would see in an old classroom. It's a wartime image showing off various shadowed forms of Abyssals along with the text - KNOW YOUR ABYSSALS -. Nagato's eyes scan the room, everyone's here, though a special look is given to the blank-staring Staren... and Ashigara launches the chalk. "WAKE UP!"

Nagato sighs again and looks to Ashigara, who's reloading her hand now with new chalk from /somewhere/. "Everyone in this room has or may have fought the Abyssal threat known as Re-Class or the Abyssal threat from before. Some of this may be a refresher and some of this may end up as new material. Who's ready for a quick history lesson?"
Staren     "Yeah... I'm fine." Staren replies to Leyanne.

Ashigara doesn't trigger the 'This person is threatening you, plan how you'd kill them' reflex only because he's absolutely sure he can pass such an academic test. ...At least until she throws the chalk! It bounces off his forcefield, and he's startled, for a split second 'you're under attack' reflexes going off, including starting to reach for his pistol before he realizes what happened. Now Ashigara gets an angry glare. "I /am/ awake and paying attention, moron." His eyes widen slightly as he realizes an insult slipped out, but he decides it's fair given her own baseless slight against him.

Now he sits back in his chair, arms folded, tapping his foot with excess nervous energy from the adrenaline.
Yuna Kagurazaka Maybe sitting THIS close to the front wasn't the best idea, Yuna thinks as the shockwave from Ashigara's chalk-launch blows her hair sideways in passing (mostly her bangs and ahoge). But ... yeah, that's about what she figured was going to happen.

She's Japanese and she's not so far removed from being a schoolgirl. It's a thing that she's personally seen happen (and has been in the crosshairs of on more than one occasion, in the course of her schooling).

Staren-related shenanigans notwithstanding, Yuna answers, "There's a fair amount of history that I haven't learned yet, so if you could please proceed, Teacher?" Hopefully that'll distract Ashigara from additional chalky cannonades at Staren ...
Sanary Rondel A... Test? Shit. Weren't those days supposed to be over?! Sure, Sanary didn't technically graduate, but... But still! She's thankful for having that notebook propped in front of her to keep her mouth from being visible, although it might very well look like she's just scowling at Ashigara from the back of the room after that chalk incident.

At least Nagato's making a little more sense with this whole thing. It takes a moment, but Sanary eventually nods and reaches into her pocket. She digs around for several moments only to realize...

She forgot her pen. The healer's head sinks a little further behind the notebook, and she not-so-subtly glances at nearby desks to see if there's any pens nearby. Surely someone's left something around that can get her out of this predicament!
Alexis Maaka     A test?! Oh shit. Maaka just sighs audibly, rubbing her temples as she grumbles something.

Staren takes a chalk piece to the face, and winds up inserting a foot in his mouth in response. "Niiiice." she mutters, snorting in faint amusement before she awaits for the lesson to proceed.
Reina Kinney Reina's paying full attention, even if she is sitting down and doesn't look like she's at attention. She's eager to know what this is all about, and the stern look on her face indicates she's ready when everyone else is. Although, when the chalk goes flying at Staren, Reina can't help but stifle a chuckle at that, before facing forwards again.

When asked if they're ready to learn some history, Reina nods and politely says, "I am ready when you are." Usually a sarcastic woman, Reina knows when to be respectful all the same. Almost like she has two sides to her.
Chevalier     This isn't exactly unfamiliar territory for Chevalier. While it's been over twenty years since he was regularly on the receiving end of such lectures, he's sat in on (and given) any number of them since. It's all so familiar, right down to the apparent badass teens with attitude. It's enough to make him roll his eyes, though of course no one will likely see if he does so.

"Please proceed." Chevalier rumbles politely. No point expressing frustration. No point in chastising kids, whatever their ages. Everyone's here to learn. If they weren't, they wouldn't have come to a voluntary briefing.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace stays quiet, leaning neatly out of the way of the chalk that's launched Staren's way, almost like a matrix-dodge. Most of the motion happens in Leyanne's knees, and it's a smooth, gentle lean out of its path, and then back out to upright. She grins to herself, hitting 'rec' on the little device linked to her skull by a wire.

"If anyone's dog eats their notes or anything you got no excuses, guys, I'm taking a full digital backup and you just got to ask, I'll happily share and re-play the whole lecture for folks."
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa Says "I'm ready I'd like to honestly know more about this."

In the back of her mind given her mostly constructred nature? Was her own shell at risk of turning if she was ever sunk? she pushes the thought out of her mind and gets ready to take more notes onthe material. She finds kepeing up to date is good and a refresher never hurts. She looks to Leyanna for a momena dn to Yuna she doesn't mind being up front, and Kotone's more college girl if anything uynlike Yuna. She also peers at STaren again for a moment and sees he may just about be ready to take flight.
Nagato     Getting the confirmation to continue, Nagato coughs slightly, flicking the slide forward with an analog button that goes 'click'. The spindle rotates and puts the new slide in place... it's a photo from just after WW2. "For those who don't know... we're tsukomogami(sp), spirits based off former items... In our case, warships from the World War Two era of our home earth." she gives a brief click... showing the Ashigara as a ship... then another click showing the Nagato.

"The two images you saw were of Ashigara and Myself... images recovered from wartime records before we were sunk." a pause, clicks to a sunk, broken Ashigara and Nagato, side by side with a noticable line. "It was years we laid underwater, most of us regretted what happened to us and held contempt for those who built us, the entire human population. Thus, the Abyssal Fleet was born." click, there's a slide showing a strange looking Abyssal... it looks like an evil version of Nagato.

It clicks over again to something ... less uncomfortable, the Princess Class ships such as Samar. "Some of us, fortunately, broke off from Samar's rule, myself included. We became what's known as the Fleet Daughters by our Japan. We were able to help drive out some of the Abyssal threat."
Staren     Staren's eyes keep flicking over to Ashigara, expecting escalation. Now he can't pay full attention to the lecture.

Nagato explains the kanmusus' origins. "Hmm. I figured as much. We may need more insight into how... tsukumogami think. And work in general. You were built to fight, but did not enjoy serving your purpose? Why did you even continue to exist, when the ships were 'killed'?" He leans forward. "In worlds with tsukumogami, does every broken or destroyed object have a spirit clinging to its remnants, trapped in a form of paralysis and undeath??" He leans back. "Shit, I've got a lot of cosmoses to fix..."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace gets a look on her face, one of realisation as she puts 2 and 2 together, getting the answer 'Arizona'; what she saw at Pearl makes a lot more sense. "Ohhhh, so that would be why Big A was-" A pause. "Sorry."

She scans the two slides. After a moment, she raises a hand for a question. "If I may, and this isn't too personal a question... why?" She pauses, framing the next part of her question. "Why did the Fleet Daughters decide to ally with humans? I mean... what..." She trails off. "Sorry that's probably really insensitive..."
Alexis Maaka     Maaka sips her tea again, listening. "I remember Samar." She muses, recording the lesson like Leyanne is. "Do we know who was the first of the ships to manifest these spirits?" She asks aloud.
Reina Kinney Reina is noe of those people who, when she's intrigued with something, shows a great deal of attention to it. She stares intently at the various slides, taking notes on her datapad as to what is being said and shown. She has no questions for the time being, instead just logging data and listening.
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna takes notes like a good student, her gaze shifting between the screen and her tablet every so often to make sure she hasn't made any critical mistakes in copying down what Nagato's saying. "It may be more that they regretted the suffering that came upon them and their crews as a result of the war," she suggests, glancing over her shoulder at Staren -

Then turning again, frowning as he talks about 'a lot of cosmoses to fix'. She doesn't actually *say* anything to him, but the look itself is rather pointed, and she turns her attention back to the lecture. There was a question on her mind, but whether because of the distraction or because she thought better of it, she doesn't actually ask it.
Sanary Rondel No pens in sight. Crud. Sanary's just going to have to improvise! Thankfully, there's several more vocal students in the classroom, and she doesn't have to worry too much about getting spotted! Maybe.

Staring at the images and listening is probably going to work better overall than fixating on what to write with, anyway. She squints at the image of old-timey ship images, then bites back a snort when Nagato reveals that those ships are the very same 'teachers' in front of the class today.

The images of the more Abyssal-looking ships help mitigate that reaction as well. "So.. Uh. I get that some Abyssals like Samar's crew wanted revenge, but.." Sanary clears her throat, lowering her head behind the notebook again just in case. "... What about Wo? She seemed pretty sane the last time I heard from her."
Chevalier     So the Fleet Daughters were once Abyssals like that Re-class? Interesting. It suggests the Abyssals are beings Chevalier should actually be going more easy on, since his own rules don't allow him to kill except in very clearly defined situations. While he could probably freely kill the ones that show no personality, ones such as Re or this Samar might be entirely different. Villains certainly, but even villains can accept the unspoken truce to fight against an external threat.

He has no questions to ask. The ancient history is just that, history. Relevant, but Chevalier's got no itch to learn details just yet.
Nagato     Leyanne is the first to get a question answered... by Ashigara. "Mmhmm, to go by history, we were the ones who did that." it's bluntly stated, no sugar added. "And we allied with humans... once we figured out that they still had care for us. I mean, Nagato herself is still revered... and so is Yamato." there's a slide click again, showing off the crew of a ship. Which ship, it's not stated. "We realized that they still loved us and we wanted to return it back to them."

Nagato gives a nod, before turning to Staren, "Spirituality is hard to explain to someone decked out in technology leagues above us. We were built to fight, that wasn't what turned us into Abyssals if that's what you're getting at... as for other worlds, it's hard to say, speak to Xiaomu or your resident spirit guide on that one about tsukumogami. However, I would like to strongly urge you to not fix anything. It's nothing for you to get your hands on."

A turn to Maaka gives the Battleship a welcome reprieve. "Unfortunately, no. I still do not know what ship Samar was supposed to represent... nor do we know what most Abyssal vessels correspond to. It's... all luck or... RNGesus... as a squad mate liked to say in a game." she gives a bit of a shrug, "I don't know who this RNGesus is, don't ask me."

Rondel finally gets noticed... by Ashigara. "The Wo-Class that is allied with us is a special case and shouldn't be looked on as a typical Abyssal. Along with the Tsu-Class and I-Class she keeps around." the slide clicks and Ashigara speaks some more, "Speaking of, most Abyssal ships have the same ship designations as us Fleet Daughters do. Destroyers, LIght and Heavy Cruisers, Light and Standard Carriers, Fast Battleships, Battleships, Aviation Battleships, Avaition Cruisers, Submarines.. and Transport Ships... We posted a primer on these on Paladin boards..." Ashigara grabs some papers and distributes them... they contain the same information posted to the Paladins boards.
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna takes a copy of the handouts, nodding thanks to Ashigara. "So the one that came after me in Shiraokadai was a Destroyer-type, right?" She pauses, looking through the papers ... "Huh. I don't think she actually fits one of these classes, though ... so does that mean she was modified, or is she somehow unique in another respect?"
Reina Kinney Also taking a copy of the handouts, Reina takes a good look at it and nods as she goes over it. "Very interesting. It seems there's even more to this than I thought there would be." She bites her lip then proceeds to adjust the way her ponytail is tied back briefly. Once that's done, she looks over her handout again before looking at the slides again.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace nods as she listens to Nagato. That confirms her hypothesis. "I knew it! That's why Big A's not gone... abyssal." She mutters. She holds each piece of paper in front of her face exactly long enough for her left eye to get a good picture of each sheet, her ears focussed on Nagato and Ashigara
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa says "So the old tale about objects gainting spirits after a time is true upon your worklld I think I getit." She stars o make more notes. She also watches Staen for a moment wondering just what they are going on tyo. she looks to Staren for a momentand seems abit grim.

"I fear what might happen if this proves true to my world there's so many ruined ships and other craft from the third and fourth world wars there..."

She looks back to the lesson now and also glance to Maaka for a moment.

"I know there was a report of a ship from another world becomming an Abyssal but I don't know much more than that..."

Koone puaes to think that over with what Nagato said in regards for technology.

"humm. I think i'm getting the basic idea of it the unquite dead it's just that it's spirits of ships."
Staren     Staren :| "I'm trying to understand the motivations of Tsukumogami from a mortal perspective. Belldandy told me that machines want to serve the purpose they were built for. But perhaps we're talking about a different manner of being here. ...I won't be able to change any cosmic rules for a long time, anyway. I think, perhaps, that you might better be able to explain your own thoughts and feelings than Xiaomu can, but if you think not, I'll ask her."
Sanary Rondel The exception rather than the rule. That's definitely good to know. Sanary's doing her best to keep mental notes about all of this, at least, although it is getting rather difficult to keep things straight. The talk of spirituality is a little more understandable, at least, until it gets into weird... Fixing stuff talk.

It still doesn't make sense to her half the time.
Shigure     A soft voice pipes up from the back of the room, blue eyes faintly glowing in the dim light. She answers Yuna's question with a voice that is amazingly quiet, but surprisingly clear. "The one that attacked your hometown is what we call 'Demon-class'. They are often unique or very rare types that command detatchments of other Abyssal craft. Along with the 'Princess-class' they are the commanders and admirals of their respective theatres."
Nagato     "That was probably a Princess or Demon Class Abyssal." but with Shigure speaking up, Nagato nods, "Shigure has the right of it, thank you." a praising nod given towards the quiet destroyer in the back and she continues. "Sometimes things aren't able to be expressed the way they should or want... or quantifiable." she replies to Staren, "I know not who this Belldandy is, but any... personal thoughts on the subject will have to wait for a later time." she sighs again and looks towards Leyanne.

"Just because the ship is still there doesn't mean the spirit has left or has become Abyssal... or a Fleet Daughter. Even to this day we don't know why for how they convert over from Abyssal to Fleet Daughter, but we know the how... and every ship is different from myself to Graf Zepplein to Shigure." there's a click to another slide... "To get back on track, the standard abyssal types are the fodder for the Abyssal Navy. They have the same functions we Fleet Daughters, and..." a pointed look to Yuna and Kotone, "Our Special Division Project members."

Ashigara takes point this time, "The Princess-class and Demon-class are on a higher level than most Abyssals, save for the Wo-Class carriers. They're smarter, more organized, capable of speech and tactically sound. As Shigure mentioned, they are the commanders and admirals of their own theaters of operation, just like Nagato here is the Admiral of the Hikari Seaport and this theater."
Reina Kinney The more Reina hears about this whole thing, the more interested she becomes. In fact, she's now looking on with great interest as Nagato speaks and she learns more and more with every slide. "So Admiral Nagato is the one in charge of this seaport as well as the whole alliance?" She nods a little. "Quite interesting." She smiles a little. "And it sounds like they get a LOT of action too." Her smile disappears. "Not that it's always a good thing."

Reina pauses a moment to clear her throat before continuing to focus on the slides and whatnot. "This whole thing... it sounds like something I could really get behind."
Staren     Staren nods to Nagato and looks over the pamphlets. They can talk about that another time.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace stays quiet and listens, watching the slides as they pop up too, making note to get a good view of every slide that's displayed.
Yuna Kagurazaka "So, that girl was basically an elite boss of destroyers, then?" Yuna asks, adding a few notes to what she's already taken down. Then she pauses. "Wait ... so, most Abyssals just outright can't speak coherently? Or is it just that most of us can't understand them?"
Nagato     "Right." comes Ashigara's voice again, "Most abyssals can't speak beyond standard grunts or the like. The more humanoid ones might be able to such as Wo-class, Tsu-Class and the like." Nagato pipes up slightly, "I can confirm Tsu-Class is speech capable. After a meeting with Wo long before the multiversal implosion." they both pause, look at each other... there's a click. A new slide.

"Installation-Class. Darwin." click "Anchorage." click... "Midway." she lets these words sink in. "Those should all be familiar, if passingly. All locations major battles were fought, save for the one at Pearl Harbor. These represent the locations themselves." a pointed look to Staren, "And no, I'm not sure how these ones are created."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace listens carefully, looking over the new slide. She frowns. "Installation-class. The name suggests that they're fairly stationary... would these be where the Absyssal fleet gets rebuilt and reworked?"

A thoughtful pause. "I suspect the answer to my next question is yes,... but has anyone tried showing compassion to the Abyssal Fleet?"
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa seems to understand what Nagato has to say. "I think I get it humm maybe there should be something else.. She thinks for a moment as they talk about the classes and what they do and more notes are taken.,
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna purses her lips as the 'installation' Abyssals are displayed. She has her guess, but ...

She's just about to ask her OTHER question when Leyanne springs *hers*, and there's a very brief, kind of embarassed splutter from Yuna. "Um. Actually, yeah ... and, well, sometimes it really works. Eheheheh ..." She rubs the back of her head, looking sheepish (without really looking at Leyanne).
Leyanne Leyanne Mace nods a little as she listens to Yuna "...and other times it really doesn't?" She adds the unsaid portion. "Hm. Well, good to know."
Sanary Rondel "They can understand it even if they can't speak it, though, yeah?" Sanary chimes in rather suddenly, then coughs lightly while rubbing her chin. "Well.. Unless those are exceptions like Wo, too. Most of the ones from last time..."

The healer still sounds mildly confused. "... Well, Re could speak too, yeah? But I guess that didn't really work out, either." She leans back in her seat and closes her eye, a frustrated grumble starting to come from her and slowly growing louder by the second.
Reina Kinney Still listening intently, Reina briefly reviews her notes before continuing to listen. "This is truly getting interesting," She comments. "I'd really like to help out with this." She frowns a little. "Although, I dunno what Laia would think..." She shrugs. "But then again, given that I'm with GUARDIANS, I'm sure she'd understand." She listens more intently, eager to hear what else is going to be said and explained.
Staren     Staren quirks an eyebrow as it's mentioned that abyssals can be made from places. Nagato answers the question before he can ask, though, and he nods.
Nagato     The lack of questions concern the Cruiser but the Battleship seems to be unpreturbed. They both look between the two. "Yuna has a surprising knack of making friends with /anyone/. It's a scary ability but one I'm glad to have with the fleet." Nagato gives a slight hmm as she looks between them. She clicks her slide... it's a bikini shot of Ashigara on the beach. There's a glare at the cruiser from the battleship, then another click. It's the submarine crew! Nagato sighs...

"With this Re-Class, we only have Avaiation Battleship to go on. But we know that she's cocky, and dangerous. The Fleet Daughter side has no Aviation Battleships... the three on base... haven't had remodels. That would be Ise, Hyuuga and Yamashiro. They're capable of launching planes as Avaiation suggests, but their battleship nature makes them hard to take down.
Leyanne Leyanne Mace frowns a little. "I don't know of any battleship-carriers, beyond the British world war 2 design with its armoured flight deck and hangar... what makes, specifucally, a Battleship Carrier?"
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa seems bemuswed at the Bikino shot. She pauses for a moment. "Battleships have long been phased out on my world, there's a handful of functional ones kept as museam and that's about it. So it be more like some heavy space warships in concewpt lots of armour guns, big enough to carry fighter wings on top of that."
Yuna Kagurazaka "Nagato, some of the Special Division members are light carriers, right?" Yuna asks. "Is there anyone currently working with us on that front who might be able to fill in for the lack of aviation battleships, or is that class too heavy for non-Daughters?"

And after Nagato's answered that, Yuna looks over at Leyanne. "Honestly? It's mostly come down to 'are they already shooting, at us or at other targets'. If the shells are flying and there are torpedoes in the water, it's kind of tricky to get close enough to talk or anything. I was lucky that Destroyer Water Demon didn't just start shooting when she revealed herself ... and if I have any part in why Wo is an ally now," she gives Nagato a sheepish smile, "that was kind of desperation at the time ..."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace nods as she listens to Yuna. "I understand. I'm just thinking, we're missing a vital aspect of any war... and so are they." She looks to Nagato. "Have we tried propaganda? Broadcast to them messages of compassion. Leaflet bomb them. Send them candy, movies... things to improve morale, and show them that the humans arent' the shitheads they think we are." She thinks a moment.
"And if Big A is capable of becoming a fleet daughter... we should ask her to join us. Them 16" guns are gonna be a sweet equalizer."
Nagato     "Not technically a carrier, as we can only use seaplane bombers and the like. The Zuiun." Nagato looks between everyone, but with Yuna's question... "We do have some light carriers in the Special Division, but in order to try and do an Aviation Battleship... we would have to figure out how to make battleship weaponry work with, no offense, humans and cyborgs like you two. The fairies already do so much when it comes to supporting your equipment. I'll have Akashi look into it."

Ashigara looks towards Leyanne with a frown on her face, "You mean old war tactics? They won't fall for such, unfortunately so we use the two things we have... Yuna's compassion, and various armaments." She gives a pointed look to Yuna, "Unless you want to volunteer to be a test subject for Avaiation Battleship capabilities, then I'm sure we can /try/, but I think you're better suited to anti air... you don't seem to have a killing bone in your body."
Reina Kinney After a while of keeping silent, Reina finally speaks up. "If I may... well, I did talk to myself about it earlier, but I wanted to say officially that I am more than willing to offer my assistance to you, Admiral Nagato, regarding this situation." Her voice is firm and resolute. "It's a new experience for me and I really want to get a new experience of some kind." A pause for a moment. Then she adds, "I do have a fighter craft as well, so I can do aerial missions as well."
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna grimaces. Right, that's a factor. "I'll stick with Light Cruiser gear ... at least we know that the fairies who pilot them always come back, even if their planes don't. On both sides."

As for the propaganda suggestion, Ashigara already shot that down with the voice of experience. "It's not necessarily a *bad* idea, but if it's been tried and doesn't work ... I think the common thread in my experience is that more than a verbal or intellectual appeal, we have to go straight for the emotional approach - and catch them from an angle they aren't usually braced against by default. It was really surprise that let me 'get through' at all to Wo, and with Destroyer, she was already coming at me verbally and emotionally. I just met her halfway, give or take ..."

And nearly got shot in the face. Yuna is still having a little trouble with how close she came to catastrophe during that encounter, more in hindsight than at the time.
Staren     Staren hmms. "It may take awhile to get my head around the tactical situation... What does an aviation battleship bring to the table, though, that battleships and carriers together don't cover?"
Leyanne Leyanne Mace thinks a moment, nodding. "You can still go with the emotional side in propadanda." She sniffs. "That said though, if the respect paid to Big A wasn't a big enough fucking hint that the ships... that they... can still be loved I don't know what is... fair enough."
Nagato     Staren gets a perk from the Battleship. "Functionally, they're supposed to take a load off the main carriers. At least, that's the design plan." she comments, "We haven't remodeled Ise, Hyuuga or Yamashiro yet so it's hard to say the full tactical benefit. Supposedly, from history books, it was to help with my country's dwindling carriers."

Ashigara gives a warm smile to Yuna, "I figured so. Of all the people we have in the Special Division, you would be the most suited for the Avaiation Battleship role, but your flaw of not taking a life, even if it's the enemy, suits you more to the anti aircraft cruiser role. Isuzu would be proud." it's said with a notion of comfort at least, not as an attempt to be mean.

Leyanne gets a look from both, "Unfortunately, we're not sure if that's possible. Ships come as we can try to get them... If "The Big A" was to end up as a Fleet Daughter... Im' sure she'll remember our attempts at trying to destroy her... and her home."

Nagato gives a look towards Reina, a soft smile upon her face. "We will always have room for those who wish to assist the Fleet." when she says she has aircraft... she looks out the window. "We have a hangar you can use and an airstrip if you're needing one, unless you have a fancy, futuristic space plane..."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace nods "And then you tell her about all your efforts to save her home, and all the human cities beyond it. She'll understand. She'll probably give you verbal flak for a bit, but..." Leyanne frowns, in a little bit of confusion. "I -saw- her soul... I think she'd understand and respect you."
Reina Kinney "Well it is a... fancy space plane, you might say. But I appreciate the offer. I mean if I need to bring it down for maintenance, the hangar will be useful." Reina smiles a little more. "Thank you for letting me do this, I really appreciate it."
Yuna Kagurazaka Yuna blushes a little at Ashigara's words - partly praise, partly ... well, Yuna doesn't consider her refusal to kill a 'flaw,' but this isn't the place or time to argue with Ashigara about it. Still, the statement is worded gently, which pretty much takes the potential for offense out of it.

The mention of 'fancy, futuristic space planes,' on the other hand, has Yuna looking a *bit* sheepish. There's a reason why she typically doesn't park the Mike-maru-go at Hikari.

For now, rather than saying anything further, Yuna skims through the notes she's taken, adding a couple of annotations here and there.
Staren     Staren scratches his head. Finally getting into the lesson and not worrying about Ashigara's 'attacks' anymore. "I'm not sure that's really needed... more regular carriers would do the same, right? And if you mean to defend them, shouldn't some sort of interceptor or well-armored gunship be able to do that? And of course, this is the multiverse. You're not limited to assigning fleet daughters or to equipping extraversal elites with their gear -- you can use our capabilities, too."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace nods in agreement with Staren. "He's right. He's pretty smart and he's got a lot of tech... I can carry and fire anything smaller than a thirty mil... there are options for thinking outside the box."
Nagato     "We... can't exactly /make/ more carriers, Staren. I don't think you were paying much attention to that part." Nagato sighs, "And you've seen our equipment, we don't have any land based aircraft to assist in interceptors. Not everything can be solved with future tech, it'd be nice, but it's not feasable. It's also not feasable to just throw you or Leyanne or anyone else at it. While it's useful... there's not much we can 'upgrade' to." she thinks a moment...

And Ashigara cuts in, "We equipped... people like Yuna because they've been a valuable asset to the fleet and not all times will they be able to summon their gear. It's... just convinent. I do see where you're coming from." some validation from Ashigara should make him have some comfort, "But understand what position we're in as well. We have limited resources and capabilities... we're World War Two ship spirits, practically, not... your sci-fi stuff."

There's a minor pause from the Battleship, "I think we'll call it here for now. Let's have a rest, you have leave to stay upon the base."
Leyanne Leyanne Mace smiles "Thank you. And... if you guys need a welder, or a machinist, or a mechanic... well, I trained on bikes, but steel's steel."
She hits the stop button on her recorder.
Staren     "Ah. I was thinking we were talking about fighting formations drawn from a larger force, not throwing everything you've got at them. So you need more air support... well, I can at least help with that when I'm around." He stands and approaches Nagato, extending a hand to shake. "Thank you for all this information, it helps me understand a lot."
Nagato     Nagato shakes her head, "There's still so much you need to learn about us, I'm almost tempted to have you try the equipment once more... but for now, you're welcome and your air assistance will be a welcome sight to the Fleet." she extends her hand and shakes Staren's, "Just be there when I need you."
