Lyner Barsett      LAST TIME ON AR TONELICO BALL Z

     Something something something something Croix

Something something something something upset Mir

Something something something something cheer her up

     AND NOW

Here they stand, in Urbania right outside an arcade. It's loud as hell, with the sounds of digital gunfire, hit sounds, beeps and blips, rotating machinery, and people chattering it up and laughing. This, this right here, is the place where Lyner decided that he was going to take Mir in order to cheer her up.
     Why?

FOOL, because what better way to take your mind off depressing things than to have some fun!? It makes perfect sense! Lyner is a genius, a sage, a philosopher! He can't be wrong! ...Okay, he could very well be wrong. But that's not stopping his misguided confidence either way!

"Heh heh heh... Ready to enter a new world, Mir?" Lyner asks dramatically, looking aside at his Reyvateil companion. For once in his god damn life, he was dressed casually. With black pants, white sneakers, a red t-shirt, and an unzipped white jacket over it.

There's that one dagger from his pauldron hidden behind his waist at the belt, but that's just minor insurance. This is a day of FUN and SMILES.

     Yes.
Jakuri     FUN. That dreaded escapade that Mir seemed to be unable to relate to others with a lot of the time; especially not cooking. Why never the cooking? She did her best with that, darnit! Rather than be so immediately sour about things however, the Reyvateil was going to do her best to be, well... Pleasant? Or what passes for pleasant in the world of Mir Teiwaz, at least.
Despite being dragged out into public by Lyner, Mir is still wearing the usual Harmobodysuit and the usual blank expression. ELMA is nowhere to be seen for a change however, indicating that she's at least trusting Lyner to keep her safe; or having a lapse in judgement. Either is possible at this point. "I... Guess?" She replies with a somewhat sceptacle sort of look.
Lyner Barsett      The less said about Mir's cooking, the better. For all parties involved. But especially Lyner.

ELMA isn't here! And Mir has not changed at all! But that's okay! People around these parts are used to seeing weirdos, robots, animal people, walking embodiments of water, fire, air, whatever. Someone in a bodysuit is oldhat.

And she responds. "She guesses!" Lyner cheers, announcing this fact to....no one. Passer bys stop and look, and then keep going. And then with a huge smile on his face, brimming with unfounded confidence, the blonde fool leads the charge, and strides into the arcade.

...Wow. Where to even start? It is a veritable labyrinth of arcade cabinets. Spanning all sorts of genres new and old, some forgotten, some at the forefront. Shooters, fighters, racers, claw machines, mecha combat simulators, flight simulators, DDR, toss the ball into the target, strength tests, it went on and on and on.

"...Wow. Where do we even start?" Lyner mumbles, faltering for a second. His eyes sweep left and right, eyeing all the things to do and all the people already here testing their mettle against their fellow man, the computer, and/or fate itself...

Then he has a bright idea.

"Aha! I know!" He glances down at the Revyateil and gestures into the premesis. "We'll go and try out whatever looks interesting to you! See anything that catches your eye? Anything at all? It doesn't matter what!"
Jakuri     Mir is a little more reserved than Lyner; and glancing around the place with a rather critical eye as she follows along after him and tries to decipher the place. So odd! She has to frown as he asks where to start, though! "I don't know, i've never done this before," she offers with a little bit of a grouse. Arms cross as she blows a mildly-exasperated puff. Of course, then he makes a decision...! To ask her what she wants to do. Oof. Rolling her eyes slightly, Mir looks about the place with before shrugging and pointing at a nearby shooter of some manner. "That. Show me."
Lyner Barsett      Lyner follows the point and eyes landing upon...oh, a light gun shooter. NINJA RESSURECTION. The cabinet art depicts two brolic looking soldiers running and shooting at robot ninjas. And the demo gameplay on screen is much the same. ...Well. "Good eye, good eye. Alright, let's do this!" Lyner grins heading on over to the cabinet and taking out a bunch of credits. "For a two player game... okay." Payment is made and the game starts up. Lyner takes hold of one gun, and then beckons Mir to take the other. "Okay, you hold that and pull the trigger while aiming at the screen. Take out anything running at us. And to reload, hit the button on the side of the gun." He points downward to a pedal at the bottom of the cabinet. "Press that to hide behind cover. Get it? Okay! We're starting!"

     STAGE ONE

     GO!

Robot Ninjas stream out onto the screen, throwing shuriken as they run forward. GET SHOOTING.
Jakuri     Bemused but nevertheless willing to at least... Give this silliness a shot, Mir takes the lightgun in hand and listens to the instruction given. It's a little overwhelming at first, a hit or two taken, but she gets into a rather panicked rhythm that... Completely lacks hiding behind cover because WAHAHAHA MIGHTY REYVATEIL OVERLOOORDS. While Mir quickly grasps the art of shooting things in the face effectively, she also quickly falls to the same treatment and Lyner is left to fend for himself. As with any game like this, it asks for a set of three letters to put aside her score. Puffing her cheeks out briefly, there is no stopping her from inputting 'ASS'.
Lyner Barsett      Wow.

Mir has ZERO teamwork! How is this possible!? Lyner, being familiar with these kinds of games knew to hide behind cover, and then pace himself while unloading ammo at a good clip. But he looked over at her side, seeing her NEVER hide, and go in guns blazing. "Mir, you've got to take cover when reloading or-" Down she goes. "Crap, crap, crap! This is two player mode, so there are twice the amount of enemies! Get back in and help me ou-" BLAM.

     G A M E O V E R

Lyner hangs his head. And with a heavy heart, he inputs a name. Which turns out to just be 'LYB'. Though he sees what Mir put in and facepalms. "Really? Reaaaally? What if you had gotten the top score? That'd be the name everyone sees!" ...Which might be kind of funny, but hey.
Jakuri     "With that kind of display, i'm not going to have gotten the top score," she replies rather smartly. Mir looks more than a little sour at the moment, scowling at the arcade unit rather than Lyner; at least she apparently isn't blaming him, right? She does poke him with a finger, though! "You. Show me how to do it single player, then." She pushes him at the player one slot again and crosses arms with a grump of a look on.
Lyner Barsett      "Wh- Huh?" Lyner jerks back a tad at the poke, and blinks. "Show you how? Well, uh. I guess I could...! But you know, watching's pretty boring..." He didn't come out here to show off, he came out here for her to have fun. But hm... Suppose it wouldn't hurt for a little while. They had time, yet! "Okay, here goes." Skipping past the game over screen, Lyner started up a second single player session and got ready. Once the stage started, he got to work, aiming the prop gun at the screen and alternating between firing and hiding behind cover. His usual dumb smile is replacd with a look of mild focus, eyes veering this way and that, emptying clips, covering, getting back out and shooting again.

He takes a few hits, but he makes it to first stage boss, some kind of robotic giant enemy crab, and takes it down to finish the stage in short order. "Whew... Yeah, it's much more managable in single player." He explains, glancing aside at Mir. "When two people play together, it gets harder because both are expected to support one another." The blonde grins his usual stupid grin right about then. "Pretty devious, huh?"
Jakuri     "Show me!" Mir repeats, apparently convincing Lyner to relent and at least managing something of a smirk. Arms remain crossed as she watches the gameplay take place, nodding a little in response to what Lyner says. "I see," she accepts, apparently not entirely convinced. The frown upon her features changes to a smirk as she lifts her wrist to cause a holographic display to appear. She pokes at a button or two. "Hmmmm... Iiiinteresting..." Oh god Mir what are you planning?
Lyner Barsett      The stage results screen finishes processing while they talk, and then Stage Two starts up. Putting Lyner in some kind of highway chase atop a chain of freight trucks. It's really nonsensical actually. But hey! Enemies are flying onto the screen! Time to get shooting, but.... What is Mir doing? Lyner squints a bit as he glances aside momentarily, but keeps shooting regardless. "Uh...Mir? What are you doing?" He asks warily over the sound effects of bullets flying and explosions.
Jakuri     "Oh, having a little fun," Mir replies almost jubilant. Beep beep... Things become more interesting for Lyner, in the sense that the enemies go down rather more easily! There's no telling what Mir has strictly done as the holoscreen disappears and she crosses her arms again with an amused look. She does flick a hand through her hair after a moment though, giving Lyner a good slap on the back. "Go get 'em, Tiger." Muahahahaaa! Why is she suddenly grinning so much? What macchinations has she carried out?!
Lyner Barsett      "Huh...?" Lyner blinks, arching a brow at Mir, and then focusing on the screen and continuing through the stage. "...Is it me, or is this...easier?" Tick...tock...tick...tock...ding! "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaitaminuuuute. Mir did you just mess with the game's code?" He asks in a mildly unimpressed tone, alternating between looking aside at the Reyvateil and then shooting down enemies. ....But then it came time for the stage boss. ...Man, why was Lyner suddenly very worried?
Jakuri     "I didn't mess with anything," Mir says with a smirk. "I improved it, that's all. Don't worry, it's not permanent." She's saying this in a hush-hush tone of course, not wanting anyone nearby to hear what is going on. They can just assume Lyner is good! And Mir is her, uh... Supportive friend? She leans in closer and gives him a pat on the shoulder. "Play, play~!" The stageboss seems to be the same as it was... That is to say, she hasn't apparently messed with the difficulty of it particularly?
Lyner Barsett      "M-Mir... You know, we came out here for you to have fun and take your mind off of things. Not to uh...you know, stand here and watch me play." He says, a little TOO distracted with talking now to pay careful attention to actually playing the damn game. "I mean... -Whoa! Cover, cover..." Phew. "I'm worried about you, you know? I know we talked about this before, but still..." Lyner smiles at that. "I think the Mir that smirks and does dubiously questionable things is much better than the Mir that holes up in her room all day."
Jakuri     "I..." Mir blushes juuust a tad at what Lyner says, blowing a bit of a puff as she fails to come up with a retort for what he says. "Hmpf," she finally announces, scowling for a moment before she points at the screen. "Oh heeeey, look who it is." <3 And who is it?! Why, the next boss Lyner faces is... ELMA-DSRX! And she is as awful as--wait, no. Lyner has never met ELMA in combat, like Croix. So this is a new experience for him, even!
Lyner Barsett      There's a smile at Mir's reaction, and then he looks back to the game screen and focuses on actually playing the damn game. Okay...focus... "Huh?"

Lyner blinked slowly as she points out the screen and.... "...Huh? Wha?" He blinks. "Wait what!? That's not supposed to be in this game? MIR!" Lyner grouses as he gets to fighting....except JESUS CHRIST THIS THING IS HARD. WHY!? "Mir- what the heck! This is ridiculous! It's ignoring my cover! This is, whoa hey! Let me reload! Ahhhhh-"

     BLIP.

     G A M E O V E R

     ".........."

     Lyner's brow twitched. "Ha..hahaha...hahahah....ha...ha."
Jakuri     Mir pushes a button on her holoscreen that assumedly returns things to normal, blush gone and giggle arisen as Lyner looks, well... Horrified. The Reyvateil beams in a prideful manner as a result, gently patting Lyner on the arm. "So! Other games? What can we look at? Or are you done with this place and want to do something else now...?" Seems she's certainly been cheered up a bit, rather more like her usual and unfathomably smug self! "We can play another game, or we can go get food or... Something."
Lyner Barsett      "........"

Lyner's horrified look persists for a couple seconds more, and then he hangs his head. "Welp. I guess that's that." He says, bucking up and smiling broadly. "Well, if you're cheered up, then I'm happy too." He says reaching over and ruffling Mir's hair playfully. "Why don't we play something against each other rather than co-op?" He looks about, and then points over to a fighting game. INNOCENT COG XND COSIGN. "Heeeeeh, this one looks interesting!"
