Pearl It may seem to the unobservant that Pearl isn't home at the moment. She is in fact, up on an arm of the statue. The one with the washing machine on it. She's busily sorting laundry, somehow managing to fold a freshly dry load and load in the last of the dirty laundry at thge same time. As one would expect it's mostly Sttar T-Shirts, but somehow a tuxedo or two made it in there. Aren't those supposedd to be dry-cleaned?
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli was flying. She was flying a LOT. Her arms were wrapped tightly around Steven and it was all she could do not to fly off into a panic. But she knew where she belonged. Where she had to go. Steven's place. Together, she and Steven could practice the ritual of hiding under the bed from the scary things.

Finally, the house came into view and she flapped all the harder. It had been a long flight and her arms were ACTUALLY tired. Steven was just a boy, but he was a big boy. She dove down, flapping wildly before landing on the front porch. She laid steven on the ground, letting out a sigh of relief. She then smiled at him. "Steven. Steven we're home. We're okay." She, unfortunately for herself, hadn't noticed Pearl yet.

Strange. Hadn't she and steven left WITH Rose? Funny just Lapis and Steven came back.
Steven Universe     Steven lies on the porch, groaning softly as consciousness slowly returns. Apparently hard wood was enough to rouse him where soft Lapis was much more comfortable for sleeping. He murmurs then his eyes open very suddenly and he sits up in a panic!

"I got you, Mom!" He cries out, the Rose Quartz gem clutched in a death grip hard enough to bruise... his... stomach?! He groans as the post-faint headache hits like a truck in response to the sudden movement and shout.

"Where... Where is she?" He asks in a much quieter voice.
Pearl     The call of Bird Mom can be heard across the entire beach: "STEVEN!!!" Then, a cloud of sand erupts in front of Lapis and Steven, slowly dissipating to reveal Pearl looking absolutely LIVID. A bizarre soft rain of laundry follows her down, settling around the trio like a strange snowfall.

She scoops Steven into her arms and starts looking him over for injuries while gently stroking his hair with one hand, "Oh my poor baby! What in the stars Happened? Where's Rose!?" She then turns her gaze, burning with anger, toward Lapis. She says nothing more, but the message is clear: 'This is all your fault isn't it?'
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli squeaked, stumbling back. Her eyes go wide and she lifts up her hands defensively. "W-what? P-pearl? I... I..." she said weakly, her whole body shaking. She slowly reached up and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. "I don't... I didn't..." she said weakly. "I-I never meant for this to happen. It... it was an accident. I didn't know she'd... jump in front of... b-but she'll be okay. Steven has her gem. He--"

And then she looked down. Steven didn't have her gem. He had HIS gem. The color drained from her face. "I... I thought you... o-oh no. J-jasper... jasper has..." Then she looked to Pearl. Oh, she was going to die.
Steven Universe     Steven's head and stomach both object to the scream and the movement, but he stoicly bears the damage assessment because he has bigger concerns.

"Pearl!" Yup, loud is bad. Much more quietly, "Pearl... Mom got poofed and I thought I caught her gem but I didn't and now Jasper probably has her and it's not Lapis' fault, Mom gave Jasper her sword, she was trying to talk to Jasper and why would she do that?"

Well, that explanation/cry for help was clear as thick clay...
Pearl     Pearl can't help but look momentarily confused, But one thing makes it through the haze of garbled explanations, 'Jasper has Rose' That hits her so hard her form can be seen to shimmer for a moment, she almost discorporates before she regains control of herself. "WHAT!? Jasper Can't have Rose!? She'll shatter her!" she fights of tears to maintain composure and hugs Steven almost a little too tightly.

"It's alright Steven, we'll get her back, we'll go Right Now!" She turns her attention to Lapis again, her gaze burning with a fire worthy of Ruby. "And YOU! You're coming with us! I know this is your fault and you're going to make it right!" She reaches out to grab Lapis's arm, disturbingly similar to how Jasper used to strong-arm her. "And don't you DARE try to go hide in the bathroom!"
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli stared up at her. No no no no. Panic began to rise in her. She rapidly shook her head, melting. "N-no no no no. Please. Please Pearl. I-I can't. I can't I can't I can't. Y-you don't understand, I-I caused this. I got her hurt. If I come, if I come you'll a-all get hurt. I'll ruin everything I'll ruin it all. Y-you'll all be in trouble, please please." She pleaded, her entire body shaking.

She looked to Steven, then back up at Pearl. "I-I'm not like you. I'm not strong. I'm not... I'm not brave. I'm not a fighter! I'm not a warrior!" Tears flowed down her face. "I-I'm just... I'm just a lapis. I'm just supposed to look pretty. Last time... last time i faced Jasper I did... I made..." She whimpered. "She's a warrior. I'll just get in your way. I'll get all of you hurt. I'll get... I'll get Steven hurt."
Steven Universe     Steven squirms in Pearl's embrace, wiggles free and leaps to hug Lapis. "Lapis, please don't say hurtful things about yourself, because I love you and I don't want anyone to hurt you, least of all you... Pearl, it's not her fault. Mom... Mom was trying to talk Jasper into being nice, you know, like she does? Like I do? And Jasper was so angry, and Mom gave her her sword and said she was gonna hug Jasper and Jasper could point it at her if she wanted and Mom would try to hug her anyway but Jasper was confused, and I don't blame her because it was scary and confusing to me too, but she was still being mean and I tried to stop her and Lapis tried to stop Jasper and it all went wrong and Mom got poofed-" he pauses for a moment to catch his breath, still hugging Lapis.

"And I thought I got Mom's gem but I guess I didn't or Jasper did something or... Did she hit me in the head or something? It's all kinda mixed up... Anyway, Lapis, please, you're scaring me talking like that, I don't want you to go away again or get hurt any more because I can tell how much you're hurting already and I don't know how to help but I want to!"

Clearly this has been on his mind for a while now, but only now when his emotions are pouring out like a waterfall is he actually putting the feeling to words. Speaking of waterfalls, he is now sniffling and those big puppydog eyes are overflowing with tears.
Pearl     Pearl manages to calm down a bit as she listens to Steven. She relaxes her grip on Lapis but isn't willing to let go just yet. "Ha!" She retorts with a smug sneer, "Don't give me that! *I'm* Just a Pearl! I've seen what you can do! You made me fight a water clone of myself that knew all of my moves! I don't even know how you did that! *and* you did it while your gem was cracked!"

Steven crying is what finally encourages her to let go of Lapis. "It's alright Steven!" She says as gently as she can manage given her extra-salty mood. "We'll get Rose back. I have a plan!" Her Gem glows and a hologram of the three of them facing Jasper appears in front of her. "Lapis will create a water clone of Jasper. to keep her busy." She gives the Blue Gem a dark look as she says this. "I'll protect her while she does this. meanwhile Steven will find Rose's Gem!" The hologram illustrates everything as she narrates.

"I know what your thinking! What if there's no water there?" We can stop by Greg's car wash and use the reclaimed water tank truck there to take some with us!" She beams.
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli blinked a few times, the color draining from her face. "Y-you want me to... to fight J-jasper? My CLONES? But... but that was... I-I mean, she's a lot stronger than you!" She's not stronger than Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl, though. "I don't know if I can... I don't know if..." She then stared even wider. "You'll... protect me?" she asked softly, her tone getting an odd sound to it. She stared at Pearl for a few moments, before her eyes lowered. "I... I'll..." Her hands clenched. "I'll do it. For Steven."

There was an odd way to how she said that, though. "What if Jasper is carrying Rose, though? I don't know if... I can't beat her. She's... strong. I know just how strong."
Steven Universe     Steven seems to be calming down a bit, as the tension between the two taller gems slowly dissipates to a bearable level. Wiping his face on his arm, he sits down right there as if that took every bit of energy he had.

"I'll do it too. I think... I was pretty sure I had Mom's gem, but I don't, so it's my responsibility." He looks kind of like a wrung-out dishcloth, but he's got his Serious Steven face on. And a healthy dose of worry peeking out from under that.
Pearl     Pearl actually gives Lapis an approving look, even if it's somewhat grudgingly. "You've made the right decision Lapis. Do it for Steven. and do it for Rose! She showed all of us that we don't have to be *just* anything. We can be whatever we want! She'll help you see that too!" She says confidently.

She looks at Steven again and notices for the first time just how worn out he is. "Maybe we don't have to leave right this second..." She says with a strained and worried tone to her voice. "We should try to find the other Gems. Stars know I'll be more comfortable if Garnet's with us! Steven, go raid the refrigerator!" That sounds like an order!
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli blinked a few times and then her look darkened. "Right. I'll do it for *Rose*." Gee, didn't she just sound super mega awesome *thrilled* about that. She then glanced to Steven. He did look exhausted. Then she said something softly. "It's... possible the gem was just dropped on the way here. I mean, we don't know that Jasper has it. Maybe... I can search while Steven rests?"

That sounds like an excuse for her to escape and avoid responsibility! Or an actual okay suggestion that wouldn't cause too many problems. She started to turn. But paused. "Steven... it's... not your fault. If I hadn't tried to... if I hadn't... done that, Rose never would have tripped. She never would have fallen on her sword. She never would have gotten hurt. It is my responsibility. Not yours."
Steven Universe     Steven just looks up at Lapis and Pearl without answering, clearly full of turmoil, heartache and headache. After a moment the semi-command registers and he gets up to go eat something. Maybe that will help the headache.

"Don't go after Jasper without me, okay?" Such a small voice from one usually so energetic.
Pearl     "See if you can find Amethyst or Garnet while you're in there!" Pearl urges Steven, watching him carefully to make sure he doesn't fall over again as he gets up. She then gives Lapis a suspicious look. "We'll look together, but it's never that easy." She says knowingly. Her gaze betrays her barely contained anger at the other Gem. She's still furious with her, and she's not getting off that easy!
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli cringed before giving a nod. Timidly she held out her hand. "I... I guess... if... if you want." Oh. Those two flying together. This would end well. This would end worse than anything had ever.

At least, that's what Lapis believed. Slowly her gaze lowered. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I'd... never have done that to Rose with Steven there. I never... I never wanted to hurt her..."
Pearl     Pearl peers back at Lapis, "But it happened. And you know you had a part in it no matter the circumstances. And now we've got to do whatever it takes to get Rose back!" She says matter-of-factly. She pauses until Steven's safely inside, "Now, if you really want to help, you can tell me everything you know about Jasper base, and we won;t have to worry about searching for a Gem we both know we're not going to find."
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli lowered her eyes and sighed. "I... don't know about her base. I didn't even know she was there. I only know about... Jasper herself and... And I..." She shuddered. "Please don't make me think about that," her voice got very soft and very weak. "Don't make me... remember what it was like. What... she was like. Please..." she pleaded weakly. "I-I'll help. I promise i'll help... Just.... my golems. Please."
Pearl     Pearl lets out a frustrated sigh, "Just tell me what the area was like! Was it the Kindergarten? Is there a place where we could set up defenses?" She asks like it should be obvious. Everyone keeps track of this sort of thing, right?
Lapis Lazuli Lapis Lazuli blinked a few times. "There's... water?" she offered. "Oh! And crystals!" Yup, Lapis was useless. "Oh, and we flew there!" Eeyup. Completely and utterly useless. "Oh, wait, there was sand! Or dirt. I can't remember." Guhhhh.
Pearl     Pearl lets out another deep sigh, "There's water there. That at least we can use." She rolls her eyes. "Alright, We'ere going to see if we can find Garnet or Amethyst. I'd even take Peridot at this point!" She starts to tug Lapis down the beach. Determined to make her useful.
