Scene #441: the Incredible Shrinking Hood

Yunomi Stadler	Humans and goblins were evacuating the floor around the huge lab that Yunomi had occupied in order to work around the limiting sizes of some of her hocorts for the Namamura operation. A courtyard was cleared with a large 'target' painted on it. Vines and flowers were growing from the ceiling now, as if the overgrown lab -- with its forced window to the 'outside world' had taken a keen interest in its downstairs neighbor. And Yunomi was checking on the generators; huge equipment not too different from the ones in the Telescope -- the same generators that she had set up to try and save the Parun. Many showed where the glass and metal had been prepared. Some of the transport wagons still had scorchmarks from manaburn and fire scarred into their frames. She was floating in grease-covered worker's pants and an old 'FORT DETRICK' T-shirt, showing the Army coat of arms. She looks like she hasn't slept in a week, her hair akimbo and her arms covered with little bruises and burns. The air here was completely thick with mana.
Rhapsody	And not far off from Yunomi, Rhapsody had come to watch. She had a feeling this was part of the operation tomorrow and was quite interested in it. If she could help, she would! Ryxinel is also present, willing to take any instruction Yunomi gives. Sidonia is here too. . . . good luck figuring out where she is.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid walks into the courtyard, a grimace on her features at the sheer amount of mana lacing the air. "Hoy lass, ye could cut this stuff wi'a knife!" she grouses, announcing her presence. Her hands are stuffed neatly into her First Fleet windbreaker as per normal operating standard, but she has a small backpack that clinks and clacks as she walks over the large target. "Jes' tell me where ye need me."
Yunomi Stadler	No pressure at all. :\| Yunomi gives a grim little smile to Ryxinel, who helped her assemble the original array. She decends, her bare feet tapping against the floor. One... two... and she looks up to the ceiling, to the vines, as if expecting a shadowy face to poke out from up there -- but Elasaid walks in. And she visibly brightens. "Ah, just in time. I just finished the final calibrations." she states, and then she looks down, and eems to realize who she's in the company of. "I apologize for my... ah... rough clothes. It's been a heck of a week." she explains. She motions with her head. "Let me give a quick rundown of what's going to happen." "As you might know, Ryx very much knows, and I'm decently sure that Rhapsody gets the gist of, blue mana is the magic of control and transforming things kinda goes under its umbrella." she explains. THere's a large yellow mark on the floor that reads "STAND HERE". It also has a measuring beam standing up nearby marked with varying heights and percentages. She exhales, and crosses her arms. "In this case, I don't produce enough blue mana over a short period of time to shrink everyone who's coming with me, so I hooked up the generators and I'm going to feed the mana through myself to control it, and then use it to shrink everyone down to size."
Rhapsody	Ryxinel nods to this. He's about to go into a much more elaborate and technical explination, but Rhapsody just puts a finger on his muzzle before he even gets to start. "Theoretically it should work," she says, which basically is the nutshell of what Ryx would have said. A snort is given by Rhapsody's brother but he's not upset by it. "We're here to make sure it all goes right, and if it doesn't, to take care of it. You shouldn't be in any danger, Elasaid." Shouldn't. Emphasis on this word. "... And it's nice to see you again. It's been a while."
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid chuckles. "Most've that jes' went reet over me 'ead lass. All I need t'know is where t'stand so ye c'n do this mumbo jumbo." she replies. As she spots the clearly marked 'target area', she dutifully heads on over. Rhapsody earns a genuine smile. "T'as, aye... I could make more effort t'come by when everythin' /isn't/ goin' te hell in a handbasket." she replies to the dragon. "How're ye keepin'?"
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi blinks. "But h--" she begins, and then takes a deep breath, exhales, and then just gives a shrug. "Works for me." she states, and reaches into her pocket. She pulls out what looks like an earbud fitted with a gem in it. The gem flashes blue. This she gives to Hood, holding her hand out. "This is... just an earbud. I didn't know if the magic would mess up any science-based one, so I took the liberty of making these. It'll also help you communicate with us in spite of your tiny size -- your voice won't carry as far or be as noticable." she explains. "And if you're ready, we'll begin."
Rhapsody	The Izzet-dragons start to slip back a bit from the massive target. Ryxinel is back along the arrays, doing final checks. Rhapsody takes a moment to answer Hood, though, "Well enough. A lot of learning, some more learning, dealing with some jerks in a classroom, and a lot more learning," she says before heaving a sigh. "I really need to get all my training started, though. A lot of people have offered and I still haven't organized anything."
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid chuckles at Rhapsody's response, then quirks a brow at Yunomi. She attempts to intuit what the Tanuki was about to say. "I dunnae hafta understand me power t'use it, lass." she says, then takes the earbud, looking it over before popping it in her ear. Hey, might as well, right? "Ready when ye are, lass."
Yunomi Stadler	"I didn't for a long time. I just accepted it." Yunomi replies. She steps off to the side, and with a small measure of difficulty she slides her hands into large, heavy looking gauntlets. Marge metal and leather gloves that reach up to her elbows and are festooned with riing, tubes, and brilliantly glowing glass-like gems against their backs. Her ears flick up, and her tail shifts as she straps them on. "I understand it better now that I'm at risk of losing some of it." ANd she picks up her goggles, and as daintily as she can sets them on. She takes a deep breath. "There may be momentary disorentation regarding the size change." she explains. She hits a floor switch. The first generator lights up. Blue lightning begins to crackle along it, inside of it, humming in a deep throated 'hrrrruuuuuuummm'. She hits the second floor switch. The second generator lights up. Higher in pitch, whining about its work as mana swirls inside and then crackles along the lines. The third switch is toed, and the amount of magic in the air is palpable; miasma flickering around in a bluish haze surrounding the generators. And Yunomi takes a deep breath. She squares her stance, and regards Hood through the red lenses of her goggles.
Rhapsody	Meanwhile, Rhapsody has backed off, moving to 'safe minimum distance'. Though if you were to ask Sidonia where that ws she'd say outside Nivix, but too bad, Rhaps wasn't leaving the room. Meanwhile Ryxinel has his own goggles on and is rushing all over the array as the generators hum to life, checking cables, ensuring they're able to handle the load. "Keep at it! Everything is holding!"
Yunomi Stadler	The cables are holding. /I can do this/. <I can save Niv.> A memory catches Yunomi. She takes a deep breath, her stance falters a moment, the square breaking. One of the generators begins to whine. And she refouucses. Blue lightning crackles serenly over her gauntlets and arcs over the metal in her goggles before she brings her hands up, in a cradling motion, and the magic sings outwards, swirling about Elasaid Hood. And Hood would feel tingly, like the whole of her body is falling asleep.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid steels herself. This is magic, but nothing like she's used herself. This is conscious effort, a force of willpower given strength by the flowing energy in the very air. The womans eyes close, and she lets herself relax, putting her trust in the Tanuki. "Ye can do this, lass." she states softly, as if she's read the thought going through the other womans mind.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid takes slow, steady breaths, eyes closed as she feels that tugging downwards. She can feel the world seeming to grow around her, the pressure changing as her size reduces. She wasn't big to start with. She allows a smile at the confidence from her friend, one of those knowing ones, but says nothing further. Let it go.
Yunomi Stadler	"Not a doubt in my mind." Yunomi replies, and Elasaid Hood woudld find herself shrinking down. The tingling feeling pulls downward, and Hood's world begins to get larger and larger. The process is slow at first, and then after a few seconds speeeds up. Yunomi is keeping a careful watch through the red lenses of her goggles, her hands curling to control the amount of output from the generators controlling Elasaid's size. After Elasaid acknowledges the confidence that Yunomi's faking, the tanuki takes careful, easured breaths, and then one deep one. Keep control over the magic. Don't shrink her too much, don't shrink her out of existance. Finally, Hood would shrink down to the point where she might notice a green stripe on the measuring beam standing over her -- the ideal height. The world is huge; desks are like mesas, Yunomi herself a moving skyscraper. She seems to move a bit slowly as she ceases the magic, and one by one shuts down her generators. She wobbles a minute, and exhales a breath she didn't know she was holding. And she pushes up her goggles.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid lets her eyes open, and looks around in surprise. "Well, I didnae expect te be this small." she muses to herself, then taps the magic earbud. "Can ye hear me?"
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi gives a nod as she comes closer, slowly walking to make sure that she's not going to run over the poor Elasaid. "We hear you. I know, this is really, really small." she states embarrassedly, "this is the only way I could manage to fit everyone in... do you feel funny? Nausea?"
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid chuckles a bit. "Nay lass. Jes' a wee bit'o'disorientation." she replies, watching the giant form move. "From this angle, ye look like one'o them Jaegers."
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi sounds amused. "oh, if things work out, you'll be the size of one of those Jaegers as well. Striker Eureka is likely going to be part of the strike force. It's very kind of the PPDC to loan the team to me." Yunomi gives a small smile, her ears pinning back slightly. She won't share with Chuck that he'll be sounding like a chipmonk until they reach full size. Yunomi sits down, cross-legged, and looks wiped out. Pidge orbits around her carefully.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid approaches, and starts to climb the Tanuki, rather unceremonious before sitting on the Tanuki's knee. "Ye should get some rest, lass. Ye'll be nay use in a fight if ye exhausted."
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi gives a wry smile as Elasaid climbs up to her knee, and she gives a shrug. "Let me bask in the light of sucsess for a few minutes here; this went off without any explosions, pops, whistles, or goblins trying to eat my lunch. This is pretty much a flawless victory for the Izzet." she explains. Aaah."
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid chuckles. "Bloody goblins, aye? Always gettin' in where they're nay meant." She sits there, grinning up at Yunomi while hugging her knees.
Yunomi Stadler	"Well, I mean it. We have goblins here who are actually pretty high up in the echelons. Niv valued creativity -- it's one of the reasons that I'm here. That, and he was... a little mroe receptive to my powers being more than I was comfortable handling. He taught me control in a rather uncontrolled environment." She smiles. "... I'd like to think he'd be proud of me right now."
Elasaid Hood	"I'm sure he is lass." she replies. "I'm sure he is."
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi just gives a quiet smile, and she offers a finger to Elasaid. "Thanks for being my guinea pig. It took a lot of courage." She offers as a 'handshake'.
Elasaid Hood	Elasaid takes the finger in both hands, and gives it a little 'shake'. "Tis part o'th'job, lass. Ye dunnae get te be a Maiden wi'out courage."
Yunomi Stadler	Yunomi gives a laugh. "No, no I imagine there are few cowardly Maidens. I'm glad to have you aboard... er... so to speak." Yunomi gives a laugh, and rubs the back of her head.
Elasaid Hood	"Dunnae get me wrong lass. Fear is a useful emotion. Ye dunnae live too long if ye dunnae have some level of fear." replies Elasaid, as she smirks up at the Tanuki. "But there's a time fer fear, an' that time aint now."
