Lunara Since Lunara's world has only just recently unified, she knows very little about the Multiverse and is still getting used to the warpgate system. She had expressed to someone she bumped into that she was not really used to cities but wanted to get past that and they suggested Japan as it has both beautiful natural areas, and some of the greatest cities on Earth. So she decides today to act on that recommendation. However her thoughts are a little muddled when she steps through the gate and it drops her right into Akihabara. Lunara blinks as she looks around in shock, seeing all the people and lights and colors around her, and as her heart begins to race a bit she quickly moves to hide in an alleyway to collect herself for a moment.
Taro     By contrast, Taro is a several year veteran of the Multiverse, and thus has learned how to navigate the warpgate system with relative ease. Finding the exact iteration of a place can still be tricky if one doesn't know the area and it's not well documented...
He stands out a bit from the other residents and visitors to the visual and audial hodge-podge that is Akihabara - nearly all the priests of the local religions wear more kimono-type robes rather than a cassock - but then again he's likely assumed to be a cosplayer on his way to Harajuku.
A flash of movement catches his eye, and while he didn't see it clearly, it appeared to be something or someone even more unusual than himself. A deer, perhaps? Out of curiosity, he edges through the throng of other shoppers toward the alley. He's not trying overmuch to hide himself as he takes a step into it, though he's also being wary. Being jumped in an alleyway is very rare, but not exactly unheard of.
Lunara By some miracle the alley Lunara found was empty, but it was late morning and this part of Tokyo was currently just a shadow of how busy it would be in the evening. She takes a moment to catch her breath, and for a moment considers summoning a spear for protection, not entirely sure how well her magic would work in such an urban setting, but she decides against it, figuring it would only draw even more attention to herself, and not the good kind. Just as the dryad starts to move toward the edge of the alley to peek out into the street, a man appears before her and she stops suddenly. Her eyes move up and down as she seems to be sizing him up, but she takes a step back, keeping her distance. "If you have followed me here with the intent of harming me, I will defend myself." She warns as she nervously paws the pavement with her front right hoof, and her tail twitches a bit.
Taro     The man doesn't appear to be armed (or at least, not visibly armed with any 'traditional' weapons), but of course it's possible he has something hidden in his robe somewhere. Regardless, he isn't reaching for anything at his belt. Instead he tilts his head slightly, arching an eyebrow in a 'huh, this was not expected' sort of expression.
Taro says nothing for a moment after she declares her intentions to defend herself. He's not seen anyone like her before, but given the general place where he's found her, the word that springs to mind is "Kami?"
Lunara      Lunara stands her ground now and seems to calm at least slightly as the man doesn't appear to be a threat, at least for now, and catching his expression. When he speaks she blinks a bit, giving him a similar expression. "Kami? I don't know who or what Kami is, but if you are referring to me, I am a dryad of Kalimdor, the first in fact. My name is Lunara. Now, would you mind helping me out and telling me where exactly I've ended up this time?"
Taro     "One of the local nature spirits," he answers. Though by all appearances she's simply another visitor rather than a threat, he still keeps his eyes on her. "Perhaps not local, then," he amends once she explains what she is and where she's from...even though the name of her home is lost on him. "You are in the city of Tokyo, in the nation of Japan, of a planet called Earth. One iteration thereof, at least." Momentary pause. "My name is Taro Daisho," he says, making an almost-too-smooth open palmed gesture to indicate himself, "and while my name and appearance are not out of place here, I am not from here either."
Lunara      "Tokyo? Hmm, so this is at least Japan. Someone told me that this land had a nice balance of urban and nature, at least in certain parts. Seems I've landed somewhere much more heavily skewed toward the former. Interesting coincidence that the first I'd speak with is not from here either." Lunara speaks with a hint of a smile.
"As for spirits, I don't hope to become one anytime soon, as much as it'd be nice to meet my grandmother. In any case, I'm at a loss here, like a fish out of water. I'm not sure what you came here for, but would you mind if I accompanied you for now?" She asks as she steps a bit closer, looking past him for a moment and out into the street beyond.
Taro     Taro doesn't offer a smile but neither dies he shy away as she approaches him. "You may, though I imagine that whether you travel with me or by yourself, you will attract attention." His gaze follows hers as she looks out into the already busy street. "There are parks and shrines to be found in the city, closer to the river if I remember correctly. Though you may give the local priests a shock if you pay a visit to one of the shrines." While it isn't quite really reflected in his expression, he sounds amused by that notion.
He looks away from the district back to her. "Don't be surprised if you are stared at or if the local humans pull out little hand-held devices to point at you. They're merely taking pictures of us." Then, unless she tries to stop him, he steps out of the alley to return to the sidewalk.
Lunara      Lunara nods as he agrees to let her tag along. "Alright well, as long as they don't get agressive, I think I can handle a little attention, particularly if I'm not alone. Anyways, these shrines I guess I would like to see them, but do you think the priests will think I am Kami? I'm guessing that is why you say they will be a little shocked if I visit?" She asks as she follows him into the street. Sure enough it isn't long before many of the crowd are turning to look at them, mostly at her, and pulling out smart phones to snap a few pictures. Someone is going to be trending on Twitter soon.
Taro     An actual for real spirit? A couple of cosplayers? Regardless, yes, trending on Twitter any minute now...
"I won't pretend to be an expert on Eath religions," Taro says conversationally as he continues walking. It's a fairly leisurely pace that he sets, apparently in no great hurry. "From what I understand, however, the locals venerate nature and the spirits to be found there." He gestures in the direction of a storefront off to their left, which is plastered with anime posters and manga adverts. "Even when surrounded by the products of the technology they've created, they're still telling stories about their nature spirits, and of ghosts and any number of 'supernatural' beings.
Lunara      "Well, you don't have to pretend, regardless you doubtless know more about their religion than I do." Lunara muses with a bit of a chuckle. "But in all seriousness, if what you say is true, I can really respect these humans if they have been able to embrace technology in such a way, and yet still hold on to and revere nature." She says as she stops a moment to examine a poster for Princess Mononoke. "I guess I may have to explore this land more in the future. I can see that there is way too much to see in a single visit. What brought you out here anyway?"
Taro     "Supplies," Taro replies with a smooth shrug. He'll stop as well so she can have a better look at the poster that's caught her attention. "My city is far more advanced than this, yet there are times I need to repair or replace technology from either our past or from more primitive areas. I've found exceptional quality parts here before, and so here I am again."
Lunara      Lunara blinks a bit. "Even more advanced. Wow, it seems I have a lot to learn. My world is downright primitive compared to this level of technology, though there are some cities I have heard of which are heavily populated by magi that I'm told are quite the wonder to behold. However even though I have lived for a very long time, there are still many places even on my world which I have not seen with my own eyes." She says as she continues moving down the sidewalk, looking around a bit as she goes, trying not to notice how many people are still staring in their direction.
Taro     Taro takes the understandable attention in stride. Let them take stare and take pictures if they want, though he draws the line as posing for anyone.
"Magi, hm..." From the way he says it, it's sounds like he's heard the word before. But he goes no further with that thought for now. Instead, he steps into another shop, its doors sliding open automatically as he steps in front of it. "Here we are."
Bright lights, closely spaced shelves, ear-wormy music paying from some unseen place above them. Very practiced smiles and greetings of "welcome!" from the clerks behind the checkout counter, to which Taro responds with a smile-less nod before taking a plastic basket from the stack.
Lunara      Lunara raises an eyebrow at the way his response about magi trailed off, but just a moment later they arrive at a shop and she follows him inside, getting a decidedly more surprised look from the clerks as they greet her. She follows Taro's lead and picks up a basket before starting to wander through the store a bit, sticking fairly close to Taro. She isn't really quite sure what she's looking at here for the most part, but she browses none the less, soon making her way toward the music section and starting to look through the CDs, mostly just checking out the album covers. "What an interesting collection of... things... I like the pictures, well... some of them anyway."
Taro     Taro's interest in in more of what would could be called unfinished products. Little bits and bobs which look like so many colorful beads fused to thin strands of wire, each piece or batch neatly sealed in clear pouches. This, along with spools of copper wire make it into his basket.
He's been keeping tabs on his unexpected companion as well, and while he does get the items on his mental list, he also follows her into the music section. At her remarks, he picks up one of the CDs at random. "These are Compact Discs, CDs for short. This particular kind holds music, which you can listen to with the right kind of player..." He looks to either side of him, then gestures off to her left at some of the colorful machines on the shelf.
Lunara When Taro comes over to check on her, she happens to be holding two CD cases in her hands, one with music from Beethoven with a cover depicting some green maple leaves, the other being Load by Metallica, the abstract art on the cover having caught her eye. When he motions to the colorful players she turns to look at them.
"So, if you put these CDs into them, they play music?" She asks to confirm she understands the concept at least on a basic level. "Do they cost a lot?" Is her next curious question. "I have a few gold coins on me. You'd be amazed how many coins you find people have dropped over the years even out in the forest."
Taro     Taro nods in answer. Apparently she catches on quickly. Another quick glance at the CD players, to check the prices neatly written on the signs. "They aren't terribly expensive...gold coins?" That gets his attention, surprise in his quiet voice. "I...doubt that they will take such coin here, and trying to exchange it at a local bank may be problematic." Surely it would raise more questions than either of them would care to answer.
His gaze grows distant for a moment. What -is- the current value of gold, anyway? Time to consult the local internet. "Mm. Still. Depending on the amount of gold in one of those coins, one of them should easily cover the cost of a CD player, batteries, and a few music CDs."
Lunara     "Oh, they wouldn't? Hmm, I guess you're right, it is common currency where I come from, but I should have known it wouldn't be the case everywhere. Also they depict various people and places from my world, guess that might also raise a few eyebrows." Lunara muses as she pulls out one of said gold coins, with the king of Stormwind on the front, and the stylized head of a lion on the back. "Here, you can have it as a token of our meeting anyway." She says as she offers the coin. "I have little need for money where I come from anyway. I just have developed a habit of collecting what I find."
Taro     Taro arches an eyebrow at the gesture, but does not refuse the coin as it's offered to him. He stretches out his free hand so that she can set it in his palm. The images stamped on it are indeed lost on him, but from its weight he can surmsise its mass...he can't expect it to be pure gold, of course, but he can make a rough estimate.
Being an engineer-model android has its advantages.
"Then in that spirit, please allow me to pay for these," he offers as he cups his fingers around the coin. It will disappear into one of his belt pouches once he has the chance.
Lunara      Lunara nods as he accepts the coin. Surely it does contain some impurities, but it is still a solid gold coin of decent weight. When he offers to pay for what she's gathered, she does give him a genuine smile. "Oh, thank you." She offers as she puts the two CDs and the portable player into her basket. "Shall we be off then? I probably should be getting back home soon."
Taro     Taro again nods, then gestures back in the direction of the front of the store.
The process of paying for goods, the curious stares aside, is quick and efficient. There's no haggling, as the machine on the counter has already decided what the price is after each thing is waved over it. He counts out paper bills and coins and places them in the little tray, and their purchases are wrapped in carrying bags that feel flimsy but are still fairly strong before being handed to them.
"This was my last errand here," he tells Lunara once they step outside. "If you're ready to leave the city, then the local warpgate is this way..."
Lunara      Lunara seems to watch curiously as Taro pays for their items, facinated by the process even if she doesn't exactly understand all that is going on. Afer following Taro outside, she nods to his response. "Thank you, I'm glad I ran into you. I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise, you gave this trip some direction if nothing else. If you ever want to come visit me, I'd certainly not turn you away." She gives a small smile as she follows in the direction he indicated.
Taro     "Mm. Thank you for that invitation." No doubt that trip would be an interesting event, were he to make it... "Meeting you was an unexpected but pleasant experience, Lunaria." He hasn't smiled the entire time, but still his voice reflects that which his face does not. "You would also be welcome to visit Neo Aracdia-one, should you ever wish to see a highly technology-advanced city. though I'm afraid you'd be disappointed at the lack of nature."
Lunara Lunara nods as he extends a similar invitation. "Thank you. I might have to try to make it someday. Would be good to... expand my horizons and all I guess. But maybe I should take it slow and learn about technology as I go rather than throw myself into the deep end as it were. But either way I do hope we meet again. Take care." She offers a wave before stepping through the gate again.
