Twilight Sparkle      Another fine autumn day in Ponyville. The ponies are going about their business peacefully. Pinkie Pie is no doubt throwing a party somewhere. The CMC is dashing about on one of their crusades. The library is open for business, and ponies are coming and going every now and then as they check out or return books.

But, today there is an extra attraction. A few ponies are standing around the large central table, where Twilight Sparkle and Neva Fernandez are busy playing a card game. This sort of thing is right up Twilight's alley, and getting a deck is pretty easy in the Multiverse. Twilight is currently using a blue and white Azorius deck. "...so...I turn these like this..." she says, and her magic sparkles around a few land cards, then she puts down a griffon card. The most basic of Azorius griffons. "..and I can play this. Right?"
Neva Fernandez     Neva in the mean time currently only has three cards in hand, and she watches Twi go through the basics, "That's basically it. The turn order is pretty simple once you get through the routine of it..." She grins and drops down a red/blue goblin card, "In the mean time, I'm just gonna put this guy down. Instants and sorceries cost one less colorless mana." She lets out a soft cackle as she does.
Peridot     Extra terrestrials would be visiting Ponyville this day! To Peridot, all the strange denizens of these earths were equally beneath her! Stranded as she was with all the creatures and natives of the planet. To add even more insult to her injury- Her colossal brain was not being utilized to it's full capacity! This was a crime.  Worse yet it made her miserable and bored-- more so than she typically was. All of her various world-threatening schemes were all running on automatic now, and she found herself waiting more than she'd like.  She needed mental stimuli. It was then that she had remembered the Steven requested a thing that helped stave off boredom. A book. Her kind had holobooks, so this must be the same thing.

Of course... she refused to let her two bodyguards know that she was indulging in anything this planet had to offer. And yet, she needed those books. And so she secreted herself off the ship without letting her underlings know. A stealth mission would serve. Flying low in her hover pod she parked it just outside of ponyville in some brush. The pod door opened and nervously she looked around. Her gem glowed for a moment, and then replaced her clothing with something more.. inconspicuous.

Her visor tinted opaque. A large green robe appeared around her body and she pulled the hoody over her large Diamond shaped hair. All in all it gave her a very striking silhouette, but it was at least.. something to hide her identity. The only clue was the lower half of her face that was yet revealed with her distinctive green skin. Plus the gem embedded in her forehead was only partially visible. The sleeves obscured the fact that her fingers did not connect to her body.

She walked into town, towards her destination, she already knew where the library was. And she paid little to no mind to any stares she would receive. She was a gem on a mission. The large tree in the center of town. The door creaks as Peridot pushes it open and she pulled her hoody close around her face.

"HELLO. Book slave! I am in need of books!" She announced in a slightly deeper voice, raising her arm and pointed somewhere in between Neva and Twilight. "Which of you will fulfill this urgent desire?"
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight Sparkle lets out an intrigued 'ooooh' as Neva plays that card. The little purple pony leans over the table to get a better look at the card, then hmms. Twilight of course has plenty of cards in hand. Hoof. Okay, actually in magic since her hand of cards is floating in front of her. She puts down another land, then starts to browse her cards, then...

Then, Peridot walks in and calls her book slave. Twilight Sparkle is surprised and a bit confused by that. "...book slave? I am a librarian. But, I can help fulfill your desire for books. This library is second only to Canterlot's royal library!" Twilight says proudly, then sets her hand down and smiles to Neva. "Forgive me, Neva. Work calls." She clops over to Peridot and smiles. "So, what sort of books can I get for you?"

As she asks this, a little purple and green dragon, shorter even than Twilight, pokes his head around a corner, his nose wiggling as if he smells something.
Neva Fernandez     Neva is likewise equally surprised by appearance of the sudden lirbary patron, and by the designation given to the librarian, and after a moment of surprised silence, she can't help but stiffle a laugh, "SNRRK, book slave... That's hilarious."

She sighs and sets her cards down, "Alirght, but don't take too long, I wanna get the stomp going."

Having said that, Neva keeps her eyes on Peridot and Twilight, mostly to see where this is all going.
Peridot     "Librarian!" Peridot corrects herself. "Very good! I have an immense mind thirst; and only a select choice of reading material will quench it." From behind her visor she squints as the new presence, the dragon. Quickly she begins trying to decipher just how much of a threat it was. She seemed unsure. At the very least, she decided it was not the biggest threat in the room.

"What sort of book." She bites her lower lip, pausing. She didn't have enough information about Equestria books to make a specific request. Time to improvise.

"I do not know. The best book you posses that is available for lease." She finally concludes after a brief moment of thought. As Neva laughs, Peridot looks her over critically before returning her attention to Twilight. "Surely you must have something of a great intellectual value."
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight eyerolls a bit as Neva snrks. She listens to Peridot, and her expressions range from slightly confused to pleased as the gem speaks. "Well, if you wish books of intellectual value I have many books on physics, chemistry, and other scientific studies. Or, perhaps you prefer philosophical studies? There are many such books available along that line as well!"

Twilight gestures for Peridot to follow, then heads toward the non-fiction section and the scientific studies section within. "We also have compelling fictional stories. I am a fan of the Daring Do series. It is a wonderful archeological fiction series about a brave explorer pegasus who saves powerful artifacts from evil creatures."
Neva Fernandez     Neva in the mean time starts humming a tune as she listens to that description of the Daring Do series, "Oh, John Williams, will your soundtracks never leave my brain?" She comments to herself, before raising a hand and questioning, "You -are- the one that's going to be doing the reading, right? Would be silly if you were getting books for someone else, and got them quantum physics books."
Peridot     The tall green alien woman walked along side Twilight. She listened carefully as she went on about the various scientific books. Despite her interest in intellectual pursuits, these manner of things seemed of little interest to her. At a glance she could tell this society was not on the cutting edge of technology, as her kind were-- Nor was it even on a level that the humans had achieved with a dog, a chimp and combustible fuel. She began briefly considering borrowing one, though it may not have been up to date as she would have liked. It could perhaps be utilized for a laugh. To see how a primitive species grasp the complex nature of-- She paused.

"Fiction." Peridot taste the word, stopping momentarily. She had understood its meaning, but not when applied to books. "You mean it is a book of lies? Or are they partial lies and the reader must suss out the truth? A sort of test in order to weed out clever deceptions?"

At Neva's question, Peridot looks to her. "The book is for me. My work creates periods where I must wait and I seek words to visually consume until something else demands my attention."
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight blinks in confusion as Peridot asks about the fiction books. "Well...I suppose technically they are lies, but they are not intended to mislead or harm anyone. They are merely stories intended to entertain. But, there are a line of fiction books which allow you to choose your path through the book. Many of those are mysteries or adventure stories."

As Twilight explains about the books, the little two foot tall dragon makes his way over toward Peridot. He looks at her curiously, his nose twitching some more. Sniff sniff. "Hey..uh...you don't happen to have any gems on you, do you?" he asks, salivating a bit. Twilight blinks, then looks at him. "Spike! You shouldn't ask guests for gems!" she says before looking at Neva. "Who is John Williams?"
Neva Fernandez     "Just a composer from Earth. Awesome movie scores." Neva says in answer, grinning widely before leaning backwards, "I'll load up a few sample songs for you later." With that she hrms a bit, as she looks back to Peridot and notes "So, you're reading out of boredom, basically. Yeah, that'll happen. I'd definitely jump for the fantasy or Sci-fi stuff myself... Though with the Multiverse that kinda makes things weird."
Peridot     "Interesting... Information with no weaponized application... where you invite the creator to deceive you. Printed perjury!" She rubs her chin. "How utterly alien. Your strange book of lies has my interest. I will know more about this subject. I wish to consume the best fabrication on the shelf." She raises her arm to accompany the grandiose declaration. "I will take several and sort out the ones I-"

As Spike draws closer to her, she had went on paying it little mind- unsure even if it was capable of sentience and thus continuing to ignore it. That is, until he ask his question. She is suddenly made aware of several facts. Spike -was- the largest threat in the room to her. He was really close. It was not a mindless animal. Somehow it had seen through her disguise! "AH." Peridot leaps onto a nearby table, sending ink wells and stacked books clattering to the ground. The loud of thunk of metal on wood as her armor impacted under her cloak. Her hand plants itself over her forehead, protecting her gem.

"BACK. Back mongrel scale beast!" Peridot balances awkwardly, as she grabs the nearby horse-head statue and wields it about menacingly. "How did you know about my gem?" Her eyes dart to Twilight, Neva and back to Spike. "Is this a trap?" Peridot had gone from strange guest, to frightened cat in the flip of a switch.
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight giggles softly at Peridot's words. "Well, as long as you merely mean reading, that's fine. Please do not actually eat any of my books."

When Peridot leaps and shrieks fearfully, Twilight is startled as well. As is Spike. Both pony and dragon leap back, and both look at Peridot strangely when she cowers on the table wielding the horse head carving. Spike is the first to speak up. He snorts softly and stands as tall as he can. "I am not a mongrel or a beast! I am Spike, dragon and number one assistant to Twilight Sparkle. And I just asked if you had gems! I smelled them!" He taps his nose, then snickers. "So...you are scared of baby dragons? It's a good thing you've never met my older cousins." he says with a grin, arms crossing over his chest.

Twilight sighs and shakes her head. "Please. This is a library. I would never allow a trap to be set in my library. This is a place of fun and learning, not a place of deception and entrapment." She moves toward Peridot slowly, then holds up a forehoof as if offering a hand. "Please, come down. No one here will hurt you. Spike is a dragon, and on this world precious gems are like candy to dragons. He must have caught the scent of your amulet."
Neva Fernandez     Neva shoots a confused glance at Twilight when Peridot has her paranoid freakout, but still sits back and watches, though commenting, "Obviously you still haven't played enough Magic, Twilight. You'll learn to be paranoid soon enough." She grins as she fans out her cards in hand.

After having her fun, she sets her cards down and affirms Twilights stance, "Yeah, there's literally nothing in this town that would want to harm anyone. You're safer here than most other places."
Peridot     "You -smell- gems?" Peridot's visor returned to it's translucent green. She squinted in disbelief, and a small measure of disgust. She points the horse head carving at Spike. She kicks a book off the table in his general direction. Not the most accurate of attempts. "Away! My gem is not for you!"  She saw the table upon which she stood, had the end of a tree stump protruding upward, where she had initially grabbed the statue. She leaps to the other side of it and crouched, as it made up her barricade for the time being. She peered at Twilight and Spike with eyes full of mistrust.

However the physical barrier seems to have calmed her down somewhat. Though she still looked coiled, and ready to spring any moment.

She points the statue at Twilight. Poking her hoof with the tip of the statues ear. As if checking to see that it doesn't explode. But otherwise she makes no further movements and simply listens to her explanation. "A place of fun. Learning." She repeats in an unsure tone. "No one will hurt me?" It seemed Twilight was beginning to reach her, until the critical misstep of enlightning her on what dragons -do with gems-. Upon hearing it, her head raises somewhat, as her expression contorts into fear. "Oh my stars. that little monster EATS gems?"

Peridot mumbles incoherently before giving a battle cry. "AIYA!" She leaps from the desk and throws the Horsehead statue at Spike and makes a break for the door! Her hood flying off her head and exposing her diamond shaped hair, and the gem on her forehead. "Not today!"
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight smiles warmly as Peri starts to calm down. But then, Twilight lets slip a little thing that, to her, is only a fact. She doesn't know who Peri is after all!

Spike flails in panic a moment as that statue flies at him, then he dives out of the way just in time to avoid being hit. Twilight Sparkle lets out a surprised 'eek!' as Peridot throws the statue, then huffs. "Hey! What's wrong with-!" But then, Peri's hood comes off and Twilight understands what is wrong. Peri is a gem! One of those gem people! "W-wait! He won't eat you!" she calls to Peridot before the gem runs out the door.

Spike pokes his head up once Peri is outside. "Wait...she had the gem in her forehead?"
Neva Fernandez     "That's probably why she was freaking out." Neva comments, as she watches Peridot sprint out of the library, and Twilight chase after her. She looks to Spike and says, "Probably some sort of body art thing going there. Who knows." She shrugs a bit.

After a few moments, considering her game with Twilight is now on hold, Neva looks over to spike and reaches into her bag and pulls out two more decks, "Hey Spike, wanna play some Magic? I've got a Dragon themed deck if you wanna have something fun." She shakes the deck in question to entice him.
Peridot     Peridot was in full panic mode.  She burst through the door and skids as she fights to change direction, kicking up a cloud of dust in her wake. "He sure won't! I'm not going to give him the chance!" Peridot shouted back. She looked down at her arm and raised it into the air suddenly. The sleeve of her cloak fell back to reveal the mechanical arm there and the strange detached fingers.

Her fingers seemed to flatten and stretch out, while simultaneously beginning to spin. She lifts off from the ground and takes the air, as the improvised helicopter (or Pericopter) creates lift. "I will see his kind driven from their feeding dens and starved! Never to dine upon gemkind! Just you wait until the Gem Empire has a foothold upon this world! It will be the first to go!"

And soon Peridot vanished through the clouds! Whoops! It looks like Spike accidently picked up a nemesis.
Twilight Sparkle      Twilight seems pretty disappointed when Peridot runs out and flies away. It isn't everyday she meets someone else who likes studying! She makes her way back inside, where Spike is looking pretty confused. "What? Just because we like gems?" he says of Peridot's last words to them. He shrugs before walking over to Neva. "So, I'm gonna use dragons as a dragon to beat you?" he asks as she plops down at the table, sitting atop it since he is kind of small.

Twilight makes her way over as well. "Only if you learn how to play properly." she says as her horn glows and she picks up her hand of cards.
Neva Fernandez     "Hey, I just think you'd find it thematically entertaining at least." Neva replies, before looking back to Twilight, "Oh, well, we'll leave that game to later." She shifts herself back to her sitting position at the table to get her cards back in hand and grins, "I think I've got a quick-play sheet of instructions though, give it a good read, Spike."

Then looking back to the returning Twilight, and grins, "So, ready to play? I'm warning you, though, you're gonna burn, Twilight." Her competitive streak kicking in.
Twilight Sparkle      Spike starts looking through the sheet as the two girls talk. "I didn't say it was a bad idea." Spike says to Neva, grinning. Twilight Sparkle giggles softly. "Well, I would not expect to win on my first game." she says as she looks her cards over. She considers a few moments, then plays another griffon. Which leaves her with plenty of untapped lands. While using a blue and white deck.
