Ainsley     The time has come to properly explain what she's doing to Faruja and why. Ainsley was dreading the idea of the full explanation, that she had told Amalthea everything about it before she told Faruja. In order to properly prepare herself, she came back to her world, and she stood in the place where the came to the decision to become independant of the Grey Scholars, the place that inevitably urged her down the path that she's on right now. It was a worthy place for reflection.

Ainsley sat on a stone in the middle of a desert. The air was warm, even at night, and it felt as if the very power of fire itself coursed through the land. The blackened desert that lay before her gaze, the dunes of black and white sand seem to speak of a world where the color of life had been shaken away. In the distance, a volcano lazily billows ash into the air, surrounded by what seems to be an alien jungle of technicolor plant life, thriving off the arcane power rolling out of the dangerous landmark. A river cuts through the desert near here, seen from the top of this mesa stone that Ainsley has set up camp at. A town of sandstone buildings can be seen stretching all the way down the river... and an ancient pyramid that glows with an unknown power glistens in the distance. This is Egypt, near Giza.

The camp is made of modern camping gear set over the flat stone surface. A single tent has been set up, with two chairs and a cooler, as well as a grill for making food. Ainsley spent some time grilling up some food while she waited for Faruja to arrive. She thought about what he might say, agonizing over the possible break-up or drama that may come from her radical decision. He was the one person that, if he wanted to, could change her mind about this with a strong word, and so she wanted to give him the chance to do that.

She sat in black pajamas that covered her body, her hands and feet free of cover and her head adorned with a cute flower crown. The pajamas have gothic aesthetic, the flowers dark reds and purples and bright whites.
Faruja Thank /Faram/ for comfortable clothes and float spells. Faruja arrives, and after a quick trip through a warp gate, finds his way through the blackened landscape almost sheerly through the powerful thrum of magic that through the area. The coordinates he was give, of course, helps quite a bit as well.

Dressed in his usual robes, when he enters the camp, his nose does much to draw him towards the campsite proper. Food, a cooler, and a chair are a sight for sore eyes after days of paperwork, and soon he's sitting beside his love after drawing her into a tight hug.

"Ainsley." He looks her over, trying to /not/ flush beneath the fur. That outfit is utterly /cute/. Thankfully, he tries to preserve his love's dignity.

"What did you want to talk about, mine dear?" he asks as he sits, acquiring a drink for them both.
Ainsley     The lizard girl gave some thorough instructions on how to get there, and there's a clear path leading to where she wants to talk and camp with Faruja for a while. When he arrives, Ainsley greets Faruja with a smile, meshing into the huge with a sweet smile and a squeeze of her arms around him in a most delicate manner. She found her smile remaining even after the hug, his examination pleasing her in the way all delighted people have when getting a good reaction from their outfit.

"The mirror that views souls. I want to explain to you why I want to use it." She accepts the drink, there being plenty of canned beverages from off-world for their benefit. The campfire idly dances in the middle of the camp site, lighting up her face where the stars otherwise fail to do so. "You've expressed your doubts about it, but... I never really explained what I was doing to you in detail. Would you hear me out?"
Faruja Even more than the clothes, that smile has Faruja's heart pounding. A deep breath, and he tries to salvage his own dignity. When she mentions the topic of discussion, however, he sobers quickly. Legs crossing, chin in his hand, he's all eyes and ears on his love.

"Mine dear, I frankly /need/ to hear why ye art doing this. Ye know well how worried I am. Take thine time, and explain. I shall listen."
Ainsley     "For the longest time, I have felt like I was missing some vital part of myself. You had seen the damage to who I am through my dreams, and I had run into continual problems where I simply did not have confidence to move forward..." Ainsley shakes her head slowly, and then looks away from him and to the desert. "This place is where I first felt certainty about anything. Certainty that my life was not meant to be shaped to be a robotic observer in the flow of life. That I would contribute my own heart to it as well, as is natural to history, and strive to improve the lives of others. But even then, I had no conviction to follow through with it. I did not understand, fully, what it meant, and that naive failure was met with sorrow, depression and the crushing truths the Multiverse presents. Reality is unkind, life is short and the life I wanted to have was full of suffering that I would not be able to endure forever."

"Not just Aztlan, but Solomon Island. The people of the Plain of Tales and those people generated from my decisions there. The people of your world. I have taken life with my own hands and seen what that meant. The tragedy of its necessity, the pain of wanting an ideal situation but knowing it cannot be done. I have seen into the eyes of the dead and realized that the innocent get struck down in this battle between titans and monsters, that our place was alien to the everyday."

"I want to see my soul, because I cannot be uncertain any longer. If I falter, people could die. More than killing them myself, it will have been a failure through neglect, a failure through a disrespect of their value. It is sorrowful enough to find a world already burned by evil men, without knowing my decisions could make it worse, /have/ made it worse."

"So I strove to make a mirror without cutting corners. I sought out ingredients that would not twist or destroy me. I want to put the problem of myself behind, so that I can finally reach the hearts of others, to really help in a way that means something."
Faruja Faruja is silent the entire way through, drink untouched, rubbing his temple. He leans back in his chair, looking well and truly troubled. If anything, his worries can only increase. Tension hangs in the air, thick, as his mind works through his feelings and thoughts.

After a long tense silence, the Burmecian finally speaks.

"The truth of war and conflict is a horrid thing. Indeed, 'tis the greatest sin of all people methinks. So ye seek clarity and confidence in whom ye art, in truth, and what lay within thine soul so ye canst finally hath some idea of who ye art and what ye believe in." There's a deep, deep sigh.

"Religious objections besides, thine overall purpose for doing this is sound. However, art ye truly prepared? What shall ye see, when ye gaze into thineself with the eyes of the Lord? There shall be naught hidden if this all goes to plan. It shall change ye forever, mine love."

His head tilts.

"I love ye, and I want ye to know thineself, but I doth not wish ye to become a living husk from seeing too deeply. That is my fear, mine love."
Ainsley     Ainsley smiles lightly at him. She heard from Summer that he only seemed to be blustered and overly religious, and that made the lizard girl smile in amusement in that the goddess rogue of life never saw this side of the Burmecian man. The side where, despite his fire and his venom, he would accept the decisions and hearts of others. That he truly was a good man, and someone who could be trusted.

She found her mind unfogged by passion and love here. He had genuine fears and points, things that she shared. She closed her eyes for a moment.

And then she opened her eyes, and said to him in a soft voice, "I will not be lost to my own soul. It is not something I will allow. Too much would be lost... you would lose me, my friends would mourn me, and I would lose the ability to love you, and to protect the people that need someone to look out for them. I know I am not obligated to do it, that I am not the only one who could help the people I choose to help, but if I feel I must contribute, it cannot be half-way any longer."

"I have faith that my life and my love will preserve me. That ... is what faith is, right?" She smiles at him inquiringly, because he would be the one that would know.
Faruja For all that Faruja can be a violent, raging zealot, there's certainly still shreds of humanity that hasn't been utterly beaten out of him by his work and world just yet. Indeed, if it weren't for his love and so many of his friends, he'd likely have started some sort of witch burning crusade by now. Thank Faram for good people.

And then, Ainsley neatly boxes the rodent into a corner. He stiffens, looking momentarily irritated, then annoyed, then finally a pinch of amusement and acceptance.

"...Oh come now, mine dear, now ye art just /cheating/!" Comes the rat, teasing lightly, just to ease her mood a touch. He grows serious.

"Well. I still feel this is utterly foolhardy, but I suppose I am hardly one to speak on that front. 'Tis a poor idea, and half of me still believes it shall end as such. /However/. I shall hardly let ye be devoured by thineself. I love ye too much for that, and I know what it 'tis to be gnawed upon in the soul." A scowl there.

A hand reaches for hers.

"I shall stand beside ye, and believe in ye, mine love. Promise."
Ainsley     Ainsley wasn't trying to corner Faruja, the smiling lizard only intent in making it clear from his perspective in a way she knew he'd understand. That she was cheating makes her grin at him, because she knows it worked. It was a rare thing to get her to flash her teeth like that, brightly amused by him, even as he becomes very serious about it.

He makes his stance clear, but he loves her, and so he'll support her decision if that is what she feels is best... That they have a common ground in some manner eases the tension of all of this.

She clasps his hand, and considers the hold for a second. Then, judging the seats she picked out to be able to handle it, she gets up from her own seat and sits sideways across his lap and snuggles against him. She's bigger than him, but not heavier, making it far less awkward to hold her than most tall and slender people.

"I love you, Faruja," she says, in a whisper.
Faruja It doesn't take long for arms to wrap around waist, the male snuggling his head against her neck. He basks in the warmth of his lizardy love, for a moment devoid of worry and sorrow and fear. For just a few moments, all is well in the Multiverse, and there's no other place he'd rather be.

"I love ye as well, mine sweet. We shall stand strong beside one another, with our friends." He promises, clinging to her, and holding her close, as though afraid to let her go.
