Ainsley     Unlike the broad swath of scenarios where people meet in the Bar and Grill, this one is actually intentional! Though not a great deal of planning has gone into it.

Ainsley is seated at her table. She has a plate of ... they look a bit like fried cheese sticks. They cannot possibly be that, from the way they crunch much more loudly than anything like that has any right to. She has a small novel in one of her hands, and she pauses in her snacking occasionally to flip to another page. The title of the book seems to be Japanese, or something pretty close to it.

She sent out a little invitation for Soan to come meet her, if he's so inclined. She gave him a time to show up at, and instructions on how to get to the Bar and Grill, but the wording and handwriting was very formal and exact, like she had an ingrained habit of writing like that.
Soan Sagittarius      It's not every day that Soan gets an invitation that well written. Most people either just use some electronic messaging back then, have attrocious hand writing, or send a death threat from an arrow posted on a paper. The instruction were plain, direct, direct enough for him to get around to. This goes a long way for a meeting.

Thus, the young thief steps through the door of the bar and grill. The path to here itself was something of a nice look. The void outside is a nice touch, he'll give that. Nice, yet rather scary in it own way. He scans around the interior of establishment, spotting a creature all by ... herself, he presumes by the clothing, making his way over.

"Hello." He says, pleasently, producing the card to place it on the other hand of the table. "I presume you would be the sender of this?"
Ainsley     "Hi," Ainsley greets, just as pleasantly. She looks down at the card she made and smiles at it, a subdued expression on her reptile face. "Yes, I sent that. I am interested in your world, and in the new group of allies affiliating themselves with the Union." She gestures to a chair across from her. She slips a bookmark into her novel and sets it aside for later, now focusing on her invited guest.

The way her face moves, it's quite clear that she's more than capable of human facial expressions. It looks a little cartoonish if anything more than the most mild expression appears, though.

"My name is Ainsley. I am a scholar with skills in history and language, as well as some skill in the magical arts." Her introduction is spoken in a mellow tone of voice, and is punctuated by her popping one of her fried ... snacks into her mouth. It's impossible to tell what those bite-sized pieces actually are, since they are breaded so thoroughly.
Soan Sagittarius      This is weird, not talking to humans. Still, it's not THAT strange to Soan, for reasons he can't really make public. Still, the young rogue remains professional and aimable, pocketing the card for later use. Who knows for what. Cards like theses often end up being useful in the most unlikely of places. "Oh, really? That's nice to hear that our world warrant some interest, even if we've just arrived." Soan says, taking a seat down at the table, giving the book she closed a look. Hm. Language he don't recognise, but it looks familiar.

"Pleasure to meet you, Ainsley. I'm Soan Sagittarius -- just call me Soan." He offers, perhaps a little uselessly. Of course she knows who he is, she sent the invite. Still, it's a little piece of pleasentry that needs to be shared, he hears. "I'm a student at the Department of Applied Thievery and Practiced Trap Mechanics, so I'm afraid Magic is not one of my specialty."

Strictly true. Yet, he knows a fair bit ABOUT magic.
Ainsley     Ainsley warms up some when he seems interested in her own curiosity. It means she doesn't have to pry too much. The book itself has some weird title to it that makes it hard to read, using Japanese wordplay that doesn't translate easily to other languages. The back of the book is visible, though, and it describes a romantic plot with some implied tragedy mixed in.

"Applied Thievery..." The title of his class makes her seem particularly confused. "That's an actual... department at the Academy?" she wonders, taken aback by what she seems to think is an odd school activity. She pulls out a notepad and a ballpoint pen, scribbling something down on it and setting it down on the table, too. "What's life like at your school?" she asks, now more eager to learn about that world.
Soan Sagittarius      Soan files that way in his brain for later. It's a weird, not his kind, but it's the sort of information that's just trivia. Sometimes, trivia saves your life. It did, once.

"Well, that's part of the Department of Rogues and Subterfuge. It's all part of a series of classes, in that case invesigative, pickpocketing, recognising traps and dealing with them as well as stealth on all it forms." Soan explains, lifting a hand to order himself a... soda. Soda will do, even if it interrupts his description for a while. "Ahhh, that's quite a loaded question, there. I guess it's very diverse and active, would be the best way to describle it. Lots of talented people, rich people's kids being there. Rivalries sparks. Eccentric, too."
Ainsley     Ainsley briefly considers the climate of this little chat. It feels awkward, she realizes, and more than a little forced from her side. She mulls it over in her head for a second as he explains about his school, her gaze seeming tense or uncertain. "Right..." She writes down on her notepad again, as he explains the whole deal with Rogues at the Academy. She quirks a corner of her mouth, the concept of people being actively taught things like that in a school setting just not quite sitting right with her.

    "Hmm."

She comes up with an idea. "Do you have any hobbies? Do you play any sports, or games? Maybe this will feel less weird for me if there were some activity we could do besides talking."
Soan Sagittarius      Soan looks relaxed enough, altought he's not quite sure why she wanted to meet him, it's information that could've been found elsewhere. He suppose it's always better to get it from the mouth of a student there! He observes the lizard woman, tilting his head a little as he gets his drink, taking a slurp from it.

"Hmmmmm, well, personally?" He says, setting down his glass. "I like doing some plastic models, work one some new mechanism for my traps. I don't really do 'sports', even if I imagine racing my fellow on the Thieves' Highway being one, when the Ninja don't ambush up for a reason or another." He straightens up. "What are you after, really? You're interested in the school?"
Ainsley     "I... well..."

Ainsley only gets MORE awkward about the conversation when she's actually confronted about her ulterior motive. She looks at the novel she was reading, and then decides to cram more food in her mouth just to avoid answering that for as long as possible.

Alas, the delay is finite. She looks at Soan, puffs up her chest for the look of confidence, and says, "I have an interest in teaching at a large academy, and your world may present that opportunity." She reaches up to play with one of the feathers on her head, more expressive than she's been since he got here. "It would be a way for me to interact with a world that does not involve trying to stop a crisis by stabbing the undead or ... more undead stabbing." She scrunches her brow. Yeah she is hard-pressed to find a crisis these days that DOESN'T involve the walking dead.

"I rarely actually get to /be/ a scholar."
Soan Sagittarius      Soan drinks on his soda in a relaxed manner, a way that only the most experienced teenagers manages to do, slightly slumped against the seat, watching carefull the one he is currently talking to. He's patient, slurping away the delicious fizzy drink, until she speaks up again.

"Unless the Necromancers tries to have a festival like they did last year, with all that dancing, you'll be very likely to /not/ deal with any sort of undead threats at the Academy." He begins. "What you /will/ have to deal with, are other people. There's a lot of different folks there, lots of politics, groups and rivalries, as well as alliances, in Alexander Academy. I'd imagine when the restriction loosens up a bit, they'll be looking for some Exteraversal scholars to teach. I'm pretty convinced of that."

He straightens up a bit, adjusting his jacket. "There's plenty of spell caster professors, for one."
